There a good place to look for owner sales?  Been trying to find this and every vendor I look at is out of stock.

Have you tried Tilfords

I no longer own any guns, but I had great service over the years with this place.

My best friends pop was a gunsmith, and they turned me on to it.

Wow. That is too bad.

Yeah. Reach out. It will cost slightly more (middle man cut), but I never minded that much, if something was hard to find otherwise.

I may be able to recommend someone else local - a little later on.

So I think I want a gun or three for home protection. Was thinking eventually would want/need a handgun, shotgun, and semi-auto rifle potentially.  I would want a lockbox for the bedroom closet and/or gun safe for the basement too with kids in the house.

With all the craziness and potential craziness out there it just seems prudent.

But I have no clue how to buy a gun in PA or how to use one.

My wife is kind of spooked out by guns, and part of the deal with her was that each gun could be locked away safely.  I have very curious nieces and nephews, so that was a no-brainer.

The mass hysteria and panic being showcased with this virus should open up everyone's eyes.  Like I said in the corona virus thread, if we get into something that leads to the food shelves looking like the TP shelves do, you don't want the only thing standing between you and someone trying to get what you have to be harsh words.

Can't help with the PA viewpoint.  I took a great handgun safety class in Wisconsin and I learned a great deal about being a responsible gun owner.  If you're curious, call up a gun store and ask if they know of any handgun safety courses happening...they'd likely have the answers you need.  The class I took in Wisconsin had guns available for practice if you didn't have your own, but I'd check with whoever is running your class.

Looking at buying an AR-15.  I've shot them and like them--any suggestions?  Looking for a higher end model.

If you don't spend at least two racks I'll be disappointed.

Funny this thread popped back up. I need to shoot more and don’t have much ammo on hand. Today I picked up 4 boxes of target and game load 12ga. shells, 4 boxes of slugs, 5 boxes of 00 buckshot, and a big box of .22 LR.

Read about Dragon’s Breath 12ga. ammo which I guess is fun to shoot at night as it kind of spits flames. https://youtu.be/WwhCygmhbCg Has anybody used it? Fleet Farm in MN didn’t have it.

I have no problem with anything you said except this.

A gun is only a danger to someone that isn't proficient with it.

Please don't get a gun if you don't or won't know how to use it.

Custom build.

I got a guy if you want. He consults and talks you through every component, benefits, etc. Can build on any budget.

PM me if ya want details.

ONLY reason I shoot a Vseven Enlightened is I got a screaming deal. Still have had him tweak it a bit.

Why custom build vs. something like a KAC or Daniel Defense?

I'm not an expert but from what i understand it's: Customization, quality of parts, and attention to detail in the build process.

Maybe you want a specific trigger, barrel shroud, stock, etc. Maybe your purpose necessitates beefing up or spec'ing certain types of components. Maybe you want it cerakoted, etched or dipped, etc...

Daniel Defense makes very solid "factory" AR, but from what I understand many models cut corners here and there.

Noveske, Larue, Vseven, And HK are other mass produced brands I'd look at if you're going the premade route.

Picking up the Chiappa Rhino 30DS X Special Edition once it releases in February

😀

Company delayed the release to late March/early April.. something to do with natural resources (steel) something or other. I knew they were based in Italy but I didn't put two and two together until just yesterday.  I already paid the money, I've just been waiting months and months.

Looking at the contact page on their website, it turns out they are based in Brescia- Italy's new virus epicenter according to some reporting.  😬

You know, I actually haven't gotten to shoot it yet.  The indoor gun range I took it to wouldn't allow shotguns.  But it feels & looks awesome.

Finally picked up an LCP II a couple weeks ago.  Finally solved my CC problem.  I've had CHL and CCW licenses for many years but never consistently carried because I never found a gun I could comfortably and effectively conceal easily and every day.  The LCP II solved that.  Just slip it right in my pocket each morning and on the nightstand at night.

Thinking about getting some kind of gun for family protection.  We live in a place that is ideal for looting and whatnot.  In a house that a kindergartner could break into.  With elderly, which is obvious to passers by.  And it's happened here before.

What should I look at?  I've been told a shotgun so I wouldn't miss and that it sends the right message and fast, lol.

Never even owned a gun.  Not sure I will.  But if so, thoughts on what to get?

I would say shotgun. But more importantly practice with whatever gun you get.

If you don’t want to spend a lot, I have a Mossberg 500 pump action that you can get for around $360. It’s no frills and no nonsense.

Best advice to give you shotgun buyers is to look for Police trade ins. You''ll get a better quality shotgun with better internal parts. The gun just wont be brand new but you'll also save a few hundred bucks and end up with a better gun. Check your local gun laws on barrel length.

Pump action >>> Auto loading shotgun as far as cost and reliability goes. Every auto loading (semi-auto) shotguns jam from time to time. This has more to do with the imperfect shell casings than it does the shotguns ability to cycle ammunition.

I'll also add, this might be a better time (financially) to buy something other than a shotgun since there has been a massive run on them.

Go on youtube and you will fine tons of other options.

Building a .300 Blackout Braced 8.5" Pistol with my buddy (same guy helping @chet)

Aero Precision M4E1 Lower
Vltor MUR-1A Upper
Atlas S-ONE 7" Keymod Handgard
Ballistic Advantage .300 8.5" barrel
Ballistic Adv. Stainless gas tube
Ballistic Adv. 5.56 Bolt Carrier Group - Nitride
SB Tactical SBA4 Brace
BCM PNT Trigger
BCM Gunfighter Grip

Then looking at adding a suppressor... actually looking for feedback. Currently torn between:

Dead Air Sandman S

or

SilencerCo Omega

Anyone running either can? Any input?

~200 days out on NFA paperwork these days, but worth the wait. Will work on both my .300blk and my Vseven Enlightened 5.56.

I built a 300 blackout years ago.  Love it.  What ammo do you use, like best?  I've liked the 110 VMax, but haven't tried much else and don't reload.

Edit: should have specified cheaper rounds, $20/box.

Sub shooting only, range, no hunting?  Looks like a really nice quality setup.  I'm a big fan of the Gunfighter grip.  I'm all about a good comfortable grip, and if you don't have that then the rest doesn't matter as much.

Hard to go wrong with a pump-action shotgun. The sound of racking a shell is very intimidating.  Remington 870 is a classic. Mossberg makes several cheap models too that are good. The guy at the gun store can show you how to operate it in about 5 minutes. Nothing to it.

Thanks! Good to hear feedback on the grip. My buddy suggested it highly. 👍

Use: Mostly range/training and (hopefully not) Home Defense / CQB. Not a big hunter, so not a big factor in the build. In a SHTF scenario the GF could handle the .300blk easier, and I'd use the 5.56.

Will be shooting both super/subsonic loads. Going for TAC-TX rounds for Defense. Ammoseek.com is a gem in these overbought times.

Now ISO 10 PMAGs for the .300blk rounds. Using USGI Improved tan follower mags for the AR, so hoping the metal/plastic differentiator will avoid any .300 being fed into the wrong rifle. I've seen what happens firsthand, and it's not pretty.

Looked at them.  500 Flex seems perfect.  Will probably go with that although I did find this one on sale used for $250.  Here it is new (Escort Home Defense).

Also, please see my comments below.

Sounds like Mossberg it is, although I have since realized a good friend owns a large stake in Weatherby.  Do they have any that I should look at?  Not sure whatever discount he throws at me is worth bothering him at such a low/entry level price but if I upgraded a bit, then I might as well give him a call.

Thanks to both of you for the input.

If you plan to only use the shotgun as a last resort home defense weapon that youre not going to use for recreation or to hunt...get something cheap that throws lead

imo

Man... ammo has gotten ####### insane
Thankfully I'm sitting pretty on existing calibers, but since I'm adding .300blk pistol I'm trying to grab a bit of FMJ for practice/sighting and then some Barnes TAC-TX for defense.

I'm a big fan of those Barnes TAC-TX bullets too.  IMO, it's the absolute best 300 Blk bullet for deep penetration on bigger game.  Those tips really open up.  Took down a nice buck with one.  Perfect for self defense.  I don't shoot them much though since they're pricey and I seldom deer hunt with the Blackout.

I have PPQ .45 as one of my every day carry weapons in an inside waist band holster. It's almost uncomfortable when sitting, but it's easily concealable. Smoothest trigger you can find and easy to shoot.

This thread is making me want to build another Blackout.  My first 300 build was off a Military Colt A2 upper with a 16" barrel.  I have a scope on it but love shooting it using the irons.  I want a 9" pistol now.

This thing is gonna be so much fun... just mocking up parts right now. Waiting on grip, flash hider, and optic.. then meeting up with buddy to build it.

Couldn't pass up the Vortex SPARC II Red Dot for $125 from Brownells. Was leaning MRO but for the money, this was a no brainer. Bombproof, great support, solid quick-acquisition optic that's fit for purpose.

Cant wait to shoot this thing.

I own two guns but no handguns.

I’ve been researching a lot and I’m pretty close to buying a Walther PPQ Q5 Match 9mm. I like that it’s ready for sight upgrades, awesome ergo grip and trigger.

Looking mainly for practice, possibly joining a league and HD. No CC with this one.
