Directv NFL Ticket.... (3 Viewers)

I was flat out told, because I got it free last year, i will NOT be getting it free this year. This was by retention. Only thing they "gave" me was the full Sunday Ticket that comes with Red Zone, tablet viewing, etc. for the price of the regular ticket. So basically $100 off. I've called like 5 times over the last 6 weeks too.
There's probably some other 'hidden' metric they are using, since clearly many of us have been able to call every year and get it free, for many years in a row.
Yep, I haven't paid for Sunday ticket but one or two times since 2000. But I have hit this wall repeatedly this year, each time getting different retention agents...

I usually throw in a 5th round rookie draft pick to seal the deal..

Been playing this game with Directv for what seems like eons now and its always the same thing. Be persistent, call their bluff even if you hang that phone up with an agreement in place to cancel service because they WILL contact you back and try to make it right.

Worst case scenario, you walk and then guess what, you can call them back in the next few days (I HAVE DONE THIS) after you cancel and start up new service with all the promo stuff. This part amazes me. I once cancelled service. THen thought "crap, they got me." I called back, ready to tuck my tail and they started setting me up like a new customer. I played along thinking as soon as I give them an address or my credit card # for the credit check, it will flag something...NOPE. Went through...WELCOME NEW CUSTOMER...here's your 20XX version of free ST. Amazing.
I canceled this year after no good offers. The next day I got a "call us for a special offer" email. Then the day after I got an email that was their new customer offer - genie, ST free, movie channels, etcetera.

So there is a limited streaming option for non-subscribers, but the limitations suck. For example, living in the Philadelphia metro area is one of them. I live in the philly suburbs. I am not eligible to give them my money.

Called today to cancel my free 3 month HBO subscription, and after I asked about Sunday Ticket and if it would automatically renew. She came back and told me I was credited for Sunday Ticket Max for free this year.

Works for me. I swear I thought I got a email about it, but can't find that now. Been with them since 2006 and renewed my contract last yr with them to get it discounted.
So apparently I was lied to and did not receive it for free as I got charged the 54 bucks or whatever the installment was. I called and they said they could give me $10 off each of the 6 installments, asked for supervisor and told them i was told I would get it for free, she says no record of it and can give me the 10 bucks off. I say no thanks cancel that and give me to retentions.

rententions lasy was awesome as was like thats bull#### they said that and are not giving it to you. So she gave me max for free then a $10 credit for 12 months, and credited me a service call for $50 that I was charged a few months back.

So free max and now 170 in credits. good deal couldnt have worked out much better

Was disappointed when I call on Friday. I called to cancel since I had the free trial last year. Figured they'd try to get me to keep it at a lower price or something. They didn't do anything. Just said okay and that was it. My plan backfired haha

Yesterday I shared that my initial attempt to get the Sunday Ticket for free didn't work. I was only offered $8 off each payment, and was told that I didn't qualify for any promos. I had just finished my 1st year with DirectTV on a two year deal, so I go the Ticket for free.

Later in the day, I looked in to seeing if I could just get the RedZone since it is offered that way by comcast/xfinity during the season for like $5 a month.

I decided to start a chat session on DirectTV's site. I don't know if it helped that I logged in under my wife's email account, but after the representative checked on the RedZone in a few minutes she gave me the Ticket for free this year. I did not have to accept any other deals, and she said that she was going to look to make sure that I am not automatically renewed next year. They sent me an email of our 'chat session' so it is in writing of the agreement.

So, I was thrilled how this worked out...and for anyone who has been unsuccessful maybe try chatting with an online representative.

I've heard of a few people getting just RedZone. I may try to angle for that when I call back before the season.

Thank you so much for this advice.

I HATE talking on the phone and especially waiting on hold.

I was able to get the genie upgrade, Fox Soccer plus for 2 months, 10 bucks off my bill, and FREE SUNDAY TICKET.

The Free Sunday Ticket did not come easy. She didn't offer it for awhile. I then told her that I just wanted the redzone channel, and she said that isn't an option.

Then I told her to take Sunday Ticket off my bill (it had automatically charged me).

Finally, I told her to just forget everything, that I was going to go shop with charter, as they have a redzone channel I can watch. She then said "wait a second" and provided the free Sunday Ticket.

Moral of the story, the free Sunday ticket option is there. You just have to be persistent. Much easier to do over chat than on the phone, unless you are just naturally great at talking with people and getting what you want.

They definitely can give you just redzone. I've negotiated it before, but for some reason it's not easy. They are just as likely to just give you sunday ticket for free as they are to split up and give you the redzone channel.

Man, was that easy. Talked to the representative and told him what I was looking for. Told him that I would be interested in the Red Zone. He put me on hold for a few minutes and came back with the ST Max for free and $10 off for six months. I took it, asked him if there was a contract and he said no! That's good b/c we may be interested in the future in the Genie upgrade as we are in need of another box anyway.

Similar to the above post. Called and said I was considering changing to Comcast because they offer the Red Zone channel for 5.00 , asked if they have a offer like that or if it's only tied to the Sunday Ticket. I was put on hold for a bit, rep came back and said after checking with supervisor, they were able to offer ST Maxx at no charge.

Good deal, and no hassle at all.

How do you even trigger a chat?

I was looking too and found this:

Chat Online with DIRECTV

At this time, online chat is only available in select locations on our site. If chat is available, a chat window will open automatically. As we increase our chat support and expand our service, you may begin to see additional chat invitations in the future

I gave the chat a try- offered me $10/mo (offered $8 over the phone). I declined with a few general complaints and- twist- was given a phone number and personal pin code for an 'account specialist'. Hadnt heard that one before. I suspect it will just dump me straight into retention but will have to see.

Same with me. I haven't called yet.

Got the same chat response. Offered free stand alone red zone channel, which is new to me. Also offered half off STMax. She then told me to try again later in the month.

Similar for me.

Offered:

Half off max OR free ticket OR free red zone

$20 off for 12 mo

$10 off hd 12 mo

$5 off 24 mo

Holding out for free max.

Ok, the 'special agent' number the online chat person gave me actually did the trick. Now she said she wasn't supposed to give it out (i'd give it here but it came with a pin number specific to my account), but if you can cause enough of a ruckus to get it, its worth doing.

So I didnt even have to spin her the usual rap- just told her what i wanted, chit chatted for a while as she worked, and she said i was a good customer with long standing and always paid on time, so just to hold on. Now none of the free ST promos were coming up in the computer (which i think is a lot of the problem, somebody else above mentioned cancelling the ST renewal and trying again to see if they started coming back). But this lady was able to put straight up cash rebates on my account to offset them. So i got a total of $330.00 of immediate cash rebate put on my account (to offset ST, plus Max which i didnt even ask for). Plus $10 for 12 and $5 for 6 (HBO), plus a free month of nonrecurring payment sports package. Thats about 500 bucks all day of value, and I was still under contract for an additional year (and didnt have to add any more contract).

Best advice- keep plugging away, and try a few different avenues of attack if the retention gambit isnt working.

Glad to hear it's doable. I called the number with my pin and got the same as someone above, either free redzone channel or half off ST max. She said free ST Max wasn't showing up because I had it free last year. I had chatted with her for a good 10 minutes about football and kids so I was hoping she'd hook me up, but no luck. I'm going to try your approach (being straight up with them) tomorrow.

Thanks for the update on the chat and pin. Worked like a charm and the pin is good for 5 days. Calling tomorrow to pull down some discounts.

I've called twice in the past 2 weeks and both times the only offer I got was free showtime for 4 months. They didn't offer me any credits or even half off ticket/premium channels/etc. I'm not under contract so I made the call to Dish and scheduled an installation date. I'm going to give directv one more call and see if they're interested in keeping me. I'm ok either way because Dish is actually offering a nice promotion (minus the Sunday ticket). I like watching the games at bars anyways.

So I've never had a problem getting a reduction In the past. I'm not under contract and the best offered to me on my first call was $10 off for 6 months. I didn't take it. How did you exactly get your 'special agent' and pin?

Went to chat and got $15 off for 6 months after multiple phone calls got me nothing. Asked about Sunday Ticket and she says she would love to offer me ST but the $15/6 deal is all she can do. I said I didn't care about ST Max and would be fine with regular ST...she said she's limited to what she can give in chat, and she offered to put me in touch with an account specialist that may be able to help. Got the number and PIN. Gonna call today or tomorrow.

With the $90 in discounts, I'd be happy getting regular Sunday Ticket for $99, which will pretty much offset. I don't care about getting my bill down, I just want the ticket at little or no cost. I like my chances.

Success! While I didn't fare nearly as well as I have in the past, in the end I got the one thing I really wanted, which was the Ticket for cheap (a grand total of $9).Called the number, got a nice girl, didn't give her any BS, just told her that the girl in chat offered $15 off for 6 months, and asked if I could get a deal on the ticket. After some chit chat, she offered the Ticket at $99, as well as an instant one time credit of $90 (she couldn't find the $15/6 deal the other girl offered). I went ahead and took it, I wasnt looking for much this year, I just wanted to be able to watch my team evey week. I didn't really care about getting my bill lowered, but I'll probably call back in Oct/Nov and see if they have any new deals. If not, no biggie.

Not my best deal by a long shot, but in the end the Ticket is all that matters.

Form the record, this was my 4th call...the previous 3 attempts got me squat. Zero offers, zero discounts. The chat route worked much better, so thanks to whoever posted it!

You get that through the online chat when you ask for something they can't give you.

I'm glad that the 'chat' has been working for other people. In reading everyone's posts about being persistent if DirectTV didn't offer the Ticket for free or at big discount there had to be another way to try...I think 'complaining' about not being able to just purchase RedZone is key too

I complained about no redzone and they offered me free redzone with no ST. That got awkward.

So I had to split my yearly call into two calls this year.

First call (early July)

They offered me Sunday Ticket base ($239.94). $10 off for 6 months ($60), $40 off for 3 months ($120), $10 off for 12 months ($120), and $5 off for 24 months ($120). 1 year extension. I told them I wanted the MAXX package for free or just the red zone. They said they couldn't do it. I said drop the Sunday Ticket and give me my discounts with no contract extension. Deal. Total savings for one year - $360.

Just called back again yesterday.

I got... Sunday Ticket Max ($329.94), a $100 Visa gift card, and another $5 off for 12 months ($60). Agreed to a one year contract extension.

Total yearly value - $489.94

Yearly savings between both calls - $849.94.

No. On the first call I declined their offer of the base Sunday ticket and just took the discounts with no contract extension. Took the one year extension on the second call. So I'm under contract until next August when I can play this out again.

Banemorth wins. Did you get a good rep, or are you just a tough negotiator?
First call was harder. Lots of back and forth. Second call they just pretty much threw me whatever I wanted. I didn't even ask for the gift card. I just wanted my football package. They threw it at me.

How long did you wait between calls? I'm at the exact place you are, I had them take ST off my account the other day, but rather than accepting the discounts I just had them note my account.

Contract runs out in October so I had some leverage...

Initially simply call customer service and got the standard $10/month offer. All I stated was that I was either looking to reduce my bill or get more programming for what I was paying. Ultimately, this led me CS Rep to provide me a 'Customer Express' number with a 4 digit pin that could be called between 8-1 over the next 5 days.

Next day I called, and they upped this to $20/month, but I indicated that if I had to, I could wait two months and allow myself to be wooed by Dish/Comcast. Then I got down to brass tacks and said, I was looking for ST. What I wound up getting was:

$20 off my bill for the next 12 months and ST for free. All I did was commit to one year contract.

I think what it winds up coming down to is that if you have 'outs/options' so long as your request in reasonable (and free ST is)...you just have to continue to push.

I don't run out until 2016 since I had to renew for 2 years when I added Genie's. They couldn't offer any monthly discount since I already have a $15 and a $12 credit until Oct. But I was able to get ST Max for a one time payment of $82.98. Good enough for me since I just paid close to $60 for my 1st installment of ST and now I'll only owe another $22 or so.

Didn't bother to haggle for many more deals since I knew she couldn't offer monthly discounts till Oct and I was locked in for another year and a half already. I did play the "local cable will buy me out" and found out I would owe about $400. But I just cut to the chase and asked for free/reduce football package.

BTW- The first thing I was told was that "they do offer Red Zone as a stand alone". That's a quote but maybe only retention can offer it. Either way I said I kind of preferred Max and didn't really want to go to cable....

FYI, if you're gonna do a deal make sure you do it in the next couple weeks. Last year I tried in September figuring it would be even cheaper once the season started but got my worst outcome in five years.

Seems they have a menu of options to throw at you to make you happy and once the season starts the Ticket is removed from their toolbox. At that point the best you can hope for is to subsidize the retail price of the Ticket with free movie channels and discounts.

At least that was my experience.

I usually throw in a 5th round rookie draft pick to seal the deal..

Good info. Pays to be persistent as Shutout said. §

Got on chat earlier this evening and they weren't able to do anything for me. But she did give me a # to call and a pin. Just got off with a rep on a short phone call. $10 off my bill for the next 12 months, free Showtime for 3 months, and free NFL Redzone. I could have had Sunday Ticket Maxx for half price but Redzone is more important to me. I still have a ways to go on my contract and incurred no additional obligation. I am already getting a $5 per month discount for the next 7 months and he said to be sure and call after that lapses to see what other deals might be available. I'm also getting free HD as long as I maintain my current package which is a $10 monthly saving. I'm happy and there was no hassle at all.

Called yesterday, got a decent deal but felt I should have come away with more after being on the phone for over 40 minutes. But I'll take it. Contract expired last month and they already charged me $40 for first ST installment.

After calling and telling the automated thing I wanted to cancel I was transferred to a lady with a very pleasant demeanor and charming but a lil white trashy southern accent on the phone. I went with the "Bill is to high and Xfinity is offering me the ability to bundle everything and save me over $100/month" angle.

She began by offering me Sunday Ticket free immediately saying that would lower my bill $30/month. I said I would want ST Max and I'd still be spending a lot more, plus Xfinity was offering a $300 gift card. She countered that she could give me a $200 gift card (requiring a one year contract) and would have to check with a supervisor on offering ST Max for free. Hold for a while......

She comes back saying she is only authorized to give me Max for $160 along with the gift card. I counter that ST is only useful to me if I have Max since I am sometimes away from home on Sundays and I'm still spending a lot more each month. After some back and forth, getting most of my basic wish list. and being put on long holds several times while she "waited to get approval from a supervisor" I had to go the point of setting up a cancellation date b/c the "supervisor" would not budge on giving me free Max. In order to get that I basically had to give up everything else in the deal. I caved on free ST Max and in the end my results were:

Free ST and ST Max for $90- (Will be credited $39.99 for 1st installment of ticket already paid on autobill)

$200 Visa Gift Card- (Mailed in 4-6 weeks)

$5 off my current bill for 12 months

Free Showtime for 4 months

Free genie and one mini genie upgrade- (Equipment changes required 2 year contract extension. Went ahead and traded major leverage for next year's call b/c we are adding a TV to another room in the house.)

Free installation of additional receiver/TV- (When I asked about this a year ago they were trying to charge for installation.)

I probably could have got more but I already spent 40 minutes on the phone in my office and got what I really wanted. ST Max for a reasonable price, free installation of additional TV and genie upgrades, and a few bucks through the gift card and little monthly discount.

Are there other options on ps3 or via madden this year etc? I don't have direct tv but want to stream if I can as I moved out of my team's area.
Curious myself. I had ST via Madden last season which was perfect as it was my first year without cable. I'm still intentionally without cable which only hurts me during football. Last year I had a solution via Madden. This year?

So apparently some viewers can stream NFLST but most cannot. What a bummer. I guess they don't want my money either

Ok I just called and even though I think I got ST last year for free when he asked I said I think I paid for it last year. He didn't argue with me and so gave me ST for free, asked for Max but said couldn't do that but could get it for $25 for 2 months of payments. He then offered me $25 off for the next 12 months since I have been with them since '98 so basically Maxx for free and 10 more months of $25 off. Also got HBO/Cinemax/Showtime for free for 3 months but I have to call to cancel at that time. I did have to reup for 12 months but no big deal there.

Then he offered me the Genie with free install but that would be a 2 year agreement so I declined for now as I like having the leverage with them but having the whole house thing sounds pretty nice especially since I just but in an 80" screen and projector in our main family room with a screen that hide up in the ceiling when not in use to keep the wife happy.

Overall not a bad year for me I guess but I like the idea of calling in June/July of next year and cancelling the ticket then if no deal and asking for it back a month or so later.

Nice thread!!

I called last week. I got $150 off the Sunday Ticket Max, $25 off for 12 months, and a $200 Visa card. Overall, $650 savings. Not bad. I might have been able to squeeze off more, but I had to run into the office.

Yes it sucks. The Philadelphia metro area is eligible. I live in a Philly suburb. I am not eligible. Such bs. I'm wondering if I use my office address in the city if I can get it .....
