Directv NFL Ticket.... (4 Viewers)

Just set cancel date for next week. What's my next move? Wait for them to contact me prior to the cancel date?

Running into some roadblocks since I got Max for free last year.

Last offer was $10 off for 12 months, 1/2 price max, and $200 gift card.
If you don't get in email in two days, just call back and say you got some phone call with offers to stay. They will offer you much better items.

If you don't like the offer just call right back and speak with the next person. For some reason each rep has different stuff they can offer. Just keep calling until you get what you want. Or set up a cancellation date and you'll probably be contacted with the motherload offer. You can always get ST max for free, it just takes a little persistence.

The representative made a comment about how I didn't get ST Max free last year and that's why she could do it for me this year, although I think I did, but I wasn't going to remind her.

Even so, the deal you have I think is pretty good - 1/2 off Sunday Ticket Max, $200 gift card, and $120 in monthly credits still puts you ahead. Persistence indeed may get you more, but I almost get a little embarrassed at some point and don't want to press my luck. I'm sure my account has all the notations from every phone call I've ever made to them because it always seems like it takes a long time for them to review my account and read all the notes.

I called again now that I was officially out of contract. Got some credits and ST Max for half price. Essentially, I'll pay about the same I was paying before for 4 months, then save about $35 a month for a year.

I also accepted an equipment upgrade, then called to cancel the upgrade today because of the 2-year contract requirement. They were happy to do it but I don't know if I'm back to being out of contract or if they just cancelled the entire changes from my last call. Gonna check later.

Call them back, say "cancel service" when you get the automated voice. When you get to live person say you want to set up cancellation date two weeks from now. When they ask why say it's too expensive and a friend you know got sunday ticket max for free, you didn't and it didn't sit well with you. They'll give it to you free. If they don't just stick to setting up the cancellation date (you're not really going to go through with it) and they should call you in a few days to up their offer and give it to you for free.

i didnt get anywhere near the script deal... but i got $40 off for 12 months and ST Max for free - i agreed to a one year contract. first call i got offered that deal and then the 3rd party verification idiot made up his own deal so i hung up... i called back right away and i actually got sent to competent retentions person... she honored the deal.

i'm excited that i can watch both versions of red zone at the same time :) is that not some sort of red zone heaven?

My cancellation date is a couple of weeks out. They tried calling me today (just once) but I didn't recognize the number plus I was at work so I didn't pick up.

Okay, done with my call(s) for the year.

To recap:

1) First call

Made my first call maybe 2 weeks ago, and the best I was offered was --

  • $20 off p/m for 12 months
  • Free ST (not max)
  • one time $5 credit (lol)
2) Second call

I think I lost the opportunity to get a deal on this call because we found that the rep from the first call had inadvertently updated my records in the system as if I had accepted her offer, so the second rep was saying I was already under a new contract. I did still mention the 'deal' I was being offered from Dish, but the second rep said he couldn't offer me anything better than the first rep. This call ended with me scheduling a cancel date 2 weeks out.

3) Third call

I actually missed their attempt to call me yesterday, but picked up today. I forget the exact title she used, but I think this rep called herself something like a retention specialist or something to that effect. She said she saw I was canceling and asked why. I told her about my (fictitious) 'deal' with Dish and what that came out to monthly. After I finished she said to give her a second while she tried to see what she could do for me to 'beat' Dish's deal, and ended up offering --

  • $33 off p/m for 12 months
  • $10 off p/m for 12 months (apparently I should already have qualified for this by virtue of being enrolled in Auto Bill Pay, but whatever)
  • $5 off p/m for 12 months (the manager I spoke with after this called it a 'customer loyalty discount')
  • Free ST (not Max -- I have to pay $17 for 6 months for the 'upgrade', but I figure the $20 off p/m below cancels this out for the first 6 months and then some)
I apparently also already had this applied on my account, which I determined was incorrectly added (again, since I never accepted her offer) by the first rep I had spoken with --

  • $20 off p/m for 12 months
After I formally accepted this 3rd offer, the third rep she said I could call her back on her 'direct' line in 12 months time to discuss any available promotions at that time. She then handed me over to her supervisor who re-confirmed what I was signing up for.

So 2015 is in the bag, but like many have reflected here, it was certainly much harder this year. Wonder if it's even going to be possible next year, what with ATT coming into the fold.

Good luck to everyone else who has yet to get an acceptable deal.

dissapointed, called this year and said cancel to go to retention dept as normal, been a subscriber since 1999, not under contract. Best offer was $25 off for 6 months, no thanks, cancelled. I may try again later

frustrating that there is no red zone only option
I went Dish two years ago, got a free IPad, cut my monthly bill, and pay 10 bucks a month for redzone during football season. It's as easy as logging into the website and checking "redzone" and you have the channel. At the end of the season you logon and deselect redzone channel. No long waits on hold with direct TV people and having to explain why you want to cut your programming down. I can add/delete services with a mouse click.

Congrats! Wow, that's $68 off a month for 12 months? That is the best I have ever seen. Add in the free ST and you are easily over $1000 saved. Well done, my friend.

Was a piece of cake for me. Haven't noticed it being anymore difficult than before. I think you just added extra steps when you should've just called and set a cancellation date tge first time

Have never had to do that in my last 3-4 years of making the 'call', until now. I do think there are many other variables that come into play which aren't visible to us, e.g. tenure as customer, geographic location, payment history, package subscribed to, what time of the day you call in, what day of the week you call in, etc.

After making the deal with them last month, the last two months I have been drastically over-billed like they never offered me the deal.

Spending hours fixing this was not part of the deal.

They are reviewing my "inquiry" and will let me know if 5-7 business days if they might honor the deal they offered to me and that I accepted on June 15th.

Was offered $25 bucks off per month and free Redzone only channel. I Declined and moved on to Comcast.

DTV called me about 5 times over the last two weeks to earn back my biz, but I was not interested. They have been getting pretty bad in my area for signal strength. Just a light drizzle will knock the satellite out.

Figured I would try the evil corp of Comcast to see what they are all about and if they are as evil as everyone says they are.

I did the normal dance, multiple calls and nothing better than some discounts but only half price Sunday Ticket. I went ahead and setup a cancelation date for two weeks out. I did get the call back before the date trying to work out a deal, but they still said they couldn't offer Sunday Ticket for free due to my existing discounts.

The day before my cancelation date, I called back with the intent to just take the half price offer. I mentioned I was looking to stop my cancelation and wanted to reference the previous offer and just get that done. The initial person taking the call transferred me. Where I ended up was apparently called the "Win Back" department. The gentleman on the phone informed me that free Sunday Ticket was no problem, but that his department only handles accounts that have actually gone through the initial cancelation process (service is off, not scheduled to be shutoff in the future). He gave me a number to call back after my service was in fact off after 48 hours so I would be in their system.

This goes directly to that WinBack department. They had my account back online as it was before (the boxes to ship the receivers back had not arrived yet) and SundayTicket Max was added for $0 along with the standard free months of HBO/Showtime/etc. They also kept the previous monthly discounts I had in place on my standard programming.

It seems the difference this year is the best deals are being held back until the service is actually shutoff; at least for me.

SPOILER ALERT.

they are the worst. The absolutely ####### worst. I'd say good luck, but it won't help. throw your tv out the window right now to avoid future pain and suffering. Help you help yourself.

While it may be harder to get the good discounts this year, I don't think you have to actually have your service shutoff in order to get them, as seen by several posts here.

I wrote earlier about the deal I got (free Sunday ticket Max + $200 gift card + $10 off a month for one year) and I never had to set a cancellation date. As somebody up above said, I think there are various factors which we will never know until some former Directv employee comes onto this thread and posts. Perhaps how long you have been a customer, what package you have, is your account in good standing, how many discounts have you gotten in the past, what time of day you call (I recommend not calling right before they close at 1 am EST), how many customers they have been successful at retaining for the day, quotas that they have to meet, etc.

I would hate to have to go to the trouble of actually having my service turned off. So that means for two days you had absolutely no tv? Ehh, that's too inconvenient for me. At that point if I hit a stone wall, I'd probably have just taken the nominal $5 off for 12 months. But that's just me. I like getting a deal just like the next guy, and am thrilled that I got $680 in value for my phone call. But I wouldn't want to deal with the hassle of having my service taken away, getting boxes to ship stuff back, and then having to make yet another phone call. Are they locking you into a 2 year contract now that you are essentially a new customer again? Would that prevent you from making the same kind of phone call next year?

I have found that if you are nice and can carry on a conversation which is direct without being pushy, that it typically eventually will get you success.

Oh puke! :X Why wouldn't you switch to Dish instead of cable? I'm sure there is absolutely nothing wrong with your "area" for signal strength. Most likely your dish antenna needs to be adjusted or a possible tree growing near.

It drives me crazy when people say their signal goes out with cloud, snow or a light drizzle. That's bull crap if your system is installed properly. If it goes out that easy have it serviced because it's not installed correctly and needs to be fixed. When installed the right way you signal will only go out at the beginning of stronger storms or very heavy downpours. Occasionally when the wind is out of the right direction and the snow is sticky it can knock out signal too.

When my signal occasionally goes out it's for minutes not hours like it happens with cable. When cable companies have an outage you won't have TV for hours if not days.

What you really should get is an antenna. It's the perfect compliment to any pay TV provider.

I did the e mail trick from a few pages back and called the number with my pin. When asked why I was calling I said I messaged them through the website about my contract status and got an e mail saying to call this number. The e mail said I was out of contract so I already knew the answer but I let him look it up.

As he was pulling up my account he said usually when people ask about their contract it means they are thinking of leaving, you aren't thinking about leaving are you? I told him Comcast was coming to my house to do my internet and offered me all TV/phone/internet for $90/mo when I scheduled the appointment but I said I had to check on my contract status 1st.

This is when he said you're on month to month, do you like football? I said yes and it was easy from there. So I got the ticket for free and some other misc. discounts. I'm already getting $25/mo off from when I called about something else a few months ago so he couldn't give me more of a discount per month but did throw some random 1 and 3 month discounts in for different things. Just had to agree not to cancel for a year, just in time for next year. All in all about 5 minutes of work. This post probably took longer to type up from my phone.

Hope this helps someone

I was set up to pay $41.99 for six months. The rep offered to lower the payments to $32.99 each month. I turned that down and now do not have Sunday Ticket.

You'll get a much better deal if you threaten to cancel the entire DirecTv service. What you do is, at the recording when they ask you to state the reason for your call, you say "cancel", then when you get the rep you say you want to cancel your entire DirecTv service, that you have found yourself watching the RZ channel mostly anyway and the only reason you previously had DirectV is because of the NFL Sunday Ticket.... and now with the increase to the ST you can't justify the cost. Tell them you can save about $40 on your monthly TV package by switching to Dish, save the cost of the ST and still get the RZ channel. If they offer you $5 or $10 off per month say no. What you want is to get transferred to retention who will offer you a much better deal, especially if you've been a customer for a while. You have to be willing to push it to the limit. The cancellation date will be a few weeks in the future, if it even goes that far, and if they don't offer you a deal you can always cancel the service termination anyway.

Question for genie users. I understand the primary genie receiver is pretty much a typical receiver size and look.

For TVs 2+:

Does the mini receiver require a power source?

Does it require plugging into a cable connected to the dish?

Does it connect to the tv using a single hdmi cable?

Do any of the genie boxes require internet, including the primary?

If I stick with DTV any reason not to get the genie setup and stick with traditonal hd dvr boxes?

Does the mini receiver require a power source? mine do

Does it require plugging into a cable connected to the dish? coax from something goes into it. it might be from the DirecTV router

Do any of the genie boxes require internet, including the primary? i think the primary does

If I stick with DTV any reason not to get the genie setup and stick with traditonal hd dvr boxes? i prefer the genie setup to my previous DTV whole-home DVR

Just made the annual call and scored Sunday Ticket Max free of charge as well as some programming credits! Took some patience, but keep asking politely for a better deal and they will gladly work with you...

Did you say you were canceling service or what? I got the same deal on my 3rd call and only after saying I was canceling the entire service and complaining about mis-information I got on the 2nd call re: the RZ channel. Got a $10 monthly statement credit also for 12 mos. They definitely don't give that deal out indiscriminately.

What I'm learning is that if you got it totally free last year in a way that they can clearly tell on your account, you're not getting it totally free this year unless you have/use leverage like out of contract or actually cancel.

I have gotten the Ticket for free for several years in a row now so I can't put stock in the above point.

What I told them was my wife saw an offer from Dish Network that sounded like a good deal so she starting looking at our Directv bill and freaked out over the Sunday Ticket cost and some other stuff and wanted to make the switch. I have been with Directv a long time and said to retention that I wanted to speak with them first to see if there was something we could work out so I could keep the peace with a happy wife who does not want to pay anything extra for football.

When the offers kept getting better after I kept inquiring, I said to the rep they seemed to be making magic happen...he said it was all based on my customer history and not anything he was personally doing for me.

Good luck to all and keep calling, eventually you will get your deal without cancelling!

LOL, my call usually is about the same. "My wife really hates football. She gets mad when the bill starts to go up because of ST. Happy wife means happy life." This type of conversation usually works best if the rep also really likes football (or at least pretends that they like football). Meanwhile my wife is sitting right next to me making faces at me. But hey, she knows she needs to take one for the team. In past years, the rep said he would give me some free movie channels to keep my wife happy, which I have accepted but I don't like the hassle of having to remember when to cancel them, so I didn't push for it this year.

With all the talk about ST and knowing that I am able to get significant discounts or get it free, I wonder if they go through the same thing with the MLB package with customers? I don't want to press my luck, getting one big package for free is enough to make me happy.

So after several phone calls and no deals, I've decided to get Red Zone channel through my cable company for another $20/mo (bundled with my internet I already have with them.) To offset the cost, I lowered my Directv programming to the base package. They charged me TWICE for NFLST and had to call and cancel twice. I will cancel cable after the season. I like having cable backup for games since there are frequent storms here that interrupt my satellite on Sunday afternoon. I'm not very pleased with DTV right now. I'm out in 11 months when my contract is over.

Unlike some I really only want the red zone channel so when I called and went straight to cancellation I just tell them I am leaving due to other cable packages have red and channel. I got $60 per month off for a year and red zone channel for free.

Just had to renew contract for 12 months where I will do it again.

This is a great alternative to those wanting the Sunday ticket as you can maximize credits a bit more as they're just flipping a switch for one channel that has no specific monetary value to it.

Took me one call over about 20 minutes.

Sounds like we're on the same page Greyhorse -- and I pull the same thing for MLB Extra Innings too, works like a charm!

This is roughly what I got...

Just called up and landed a super chipper young woman on the other end.

$50 off per month for 12mo

$60 one time credit

Sunday Ticket Max Free of Charge

Total of $660 in savings plus free Sunday Ticket Max :banned:

Didn't have to go through the actual setup of cancellation after asking for it. She asked what I was being offered, told her we were looking to save about 60 bucks a month.

She worked her voodoo and said the discounts plus the basic ticket was the best she could do. I said I'm a fantasy football guy and love RZ... she changed her tune and said she could throw that in and just issue me a credit for it. It has already hit the account.

Done deal

Any advice? I called and did the proverbial dance. They said they didn't have anything to offer. Apparently I am still under contract. I was told that to cancel my service would cost a $180.00 cancelation fee, and they asked me if I was sure i wanted to go through with it despite this fee. I said I wanted to talk it over with my wife and that I would call back. I was worried I would tell them to go ahead and cancel, then be without service and an extra $180.00 early cancelation fee to boot. Thanks in advance for any tips available.

"I'd like to schedule disconnect for September 15th."

Prepare for your phone/email to light up over the next couple days.

IF they somehow don't contact you, just call and cancel the disconnect.

Make sure you cancel the Ticket immediately though, once the first game starts you're locked in and no way you're getting a penny back. You still have a little time for them to win you back.

^^^ Thanks a bunch guys! So, since the first game of the NFL season is Sept. 10th, I need to set my cancelation date for perhaps the 9th?

Was offered $25 bucks off per month and free Redzone only channel. I Declined and moved on to Comcast.

DTV called me about 5 times over the last two weeks to earn back my biz, but I was not interested. They have been getting pretty bad in my area for signal strength. Just a light drizzle will knock the satellite out.

Figured I would try the evil corp of Comcast to see what they are all about and if they are as evil as everyone says they are.
SPOILER ALERT. they are the worst. The absolutely ####### worst. I'd say good luck, but it won't help. throw your tv out the window right now to avoid future pain and suffering. Help you help yourself.
Understatement of the year here. Walk out into traffic would work even better.

Just got directv installed for the first time today. Upon initial inspection i have to say Genie navigation kinda sucks. Cox Contour was way more intuitive and a better user experience. Hopefully it gets better as i play around with it.
