Their best tunes have no shot of getting to the round of 16, some probably don't even crack the top 32.

There are a lot of great songs that people miss out on with U2, but perhaps none greater than Kite. That Elevation Tour was U2 at the peak of their powers, and just about every show was operating on another plane. Huge, emotionally charged nights for band and crowd, with Bono in the process of losing his father and using the shows as a vehicle to grieve and, of course, 9/11. The band has never been more powerful live than they were on that tour and Kite was the centerpiece to those shows.

And from that tour came, imo, the best live music DVD there is, Slane Castle. Yes, even better than The Last Waltz.

I much prefer their earlier work - Boy, October, War mostly.

Same here, was just going to post this. Seems like it's like that with most groups. Love"October" favorite album, Threw a brick through a Window is a great song, October is haunting. Boy is great too but Achtung Baby is my next favorite . I find Joshua Tree boring.

YepI was one of the biggest U2 fans up to and including Joshua Tree. They finally lost me after Actung Baby.

Can I be the guy that lists the obscure, almost unknown song so I can look really cool?

I dont know about that. While U2 does have plenty of great songs that are a bit under the radar, a lot of their best songs were in fact some of their most popular - Bad, Pride, New Year's Day, etc.

Obviously it's debatable but I disagree.

I have Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree as well as the first three. I also have Under A Blood Red Sky and Wide Awake In America, but I definitely lost interest after their early work when they started to pomp it up. They're a great band, no doubt, but I find them a tad anodyne for my tastes. After the spitting venom of their early stuff, they lost their edge (pardon the pun).

These 10, in no hard order:

October

I Will Follow

Two Hearts Beat As One

Until The End Of The World

The Fly

The Unforgettable Fire

Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses

Gloria

Promenade

Acrobat

I always thought "Pride" was a dreadful tune. Still cannot listen all the way through. Just. No.

Having to choose between Bad and The Unforgetable fire is just wrong....

Unforgettable Fire is epic. Just might be my favorite (barely nudging October) ...

ETA: arguably Bono's best vocal arrangement; versatility on display http://youtu.be/7108stnFOuU

I wouldn't go that far, but it's one of the most overrated songs ever.
