Cover Songs that are better than the original (2 Viewers)

maybe mentioned, and not "better" per se, but as good and depending on mood, better - both by the chili peppers.

Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder

If You Want Me To Stay - Sly and the Family Stone

I am one of the biggest Zeppelin fans there is, and I don't know if Heart's version of Stairway to Heaven is better than the original, but it's pretty dang close.

Those thinking this is sacrilegious, flame away.
I wouldn't say better, but a fantastic performance. You can tell how impressed Page, Plant, JPJ - and President Obama - were.

The Wilson ladies have always channeled Led Zep amazingly. Probably mentioned well upthread, but I think where they really did outdo Led Zep was with Battle of Evermore.

I'm a sucker for a well placed choir. This qualifies.

The fact that it's live makes it more impressive.

Ann Wilson has one of the best voices ever. I like how she is able to knock hers down a bit deeper so she sounds more like Page.

Like this comment from the YouTube. Must have been a bit nerve-wracking!

No pressure gals 'n' guys, it's only Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones watching from upstairs.

And John Bonham's son as their drummer - talk about knocking it out of the park.

95% of Whitney Houston's covers.

Greatest Love of All

I Will Always Love You

Saving all my love for you

All the man that I need

Just the lonely talking again

I'm every woman

And so on..

As I was watching it, I could see JP was really enjoying it. He seemed to be mouthing notes as the guy was doing the solo. All three were pleasantly surprised when the screen when up to the large chorus.

Not better than the original, but as far as tributes go, the Foo FIghters doing Overture from 2112 by Rush at the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction was great, down to the costumes to match Rush from the 70s.

Although the guy playing bass was a tad heavier than Geddy.

Here is one more; Creep by Radiohead performed by Prince. The end result of a loooong battle (performed in 2008) between Radiohead and Prince over copyright infringement.

Isn't it a benefit if Prince deems one of your songs worthy to play in a concert of his? Long song, wait for the solo.

Mrs Robinson - Lemonheads

Don't Think Twice - Mike Ness

Take A Chance On Me - Erasure

Coheed and Cambria cover The Smiths - A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours

For those unaware, the youtube channel The A.V. Club is great for covers.
Not at all familiar with C&C, but Ive always liked this. Not better than the Smiths, but really nice. That AV Club series is great. If you haven't seen them, the Punch Brothers tunes are classic. Also liked Low's Africa and Owen Pallet's Game of Pricks off the top of my head.

Rush fans will like this one even though it's pretty damn tough to come close to what they do.

Cygnus and the Sea Monsters(Paul Gilbert,Mike Portnoy and Sean Malone)doing YYZ-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ7_Hrtw2bA
Not bad, though I wonder where the keyboards come from? ;)

Makes me think of this...
Here is the entire set

Music starts around the 6 minute mark

Not a fan of the singer they used but the music is pretty awesome.
