QB Cam Newton, CAR (2 Viewers)

Schedule shapes up well for having to score points and weather. Lamar Jackson is currently #3. Cams weapons are better than Jackson’s.  He’ll keeping the running stats close
I'm half with you. I think Newton will be a QB1 down the stretch, the schedule is arguably the best for anyone in the NFL, and he's got as good of weapons as he's ever had. That said, I don't see the running being anywhere close to Jackson levels(though his passing stats will likely be better) they will be probably closer to Wilson-ish levels, where he doesn't get designed rushes anymore, but is still capable of taking off, especially near the goal line.

I'd probably rank Newton around QB10 going forward, with upside if I'm underestimating his rushing.

4-1 with the only loss coming to the best team in the conference.  0-2 with Cam before he jacked his foot.  I'm not sure there's a winning answer here.
His foot was jacked the first two games. Living in SC I have the privilege (?) Of watching all their games and Allen is a game manager. In the NFC no way they make the wildcard under Allen. A healthy Cam I would say it's possible but not sure we are if that plays out.

Cam got injured in the 3rd preseason game.  He was no where healthy in the first two games of the season.  He could not move at all.  There were no runs and he couldn't set to throw.  It was quite obvious he was not healthy.

Ian Rappaport just reported on NFLN that it is likely Cam Newton will be out for several more weeks... decision coming Monday... IR is being discussed.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, a move to injured reserve is "on the table" for Cam Newton (foot).

Newton is slated to miss "several" more weeks with his Lisfranc injury, though surgery is "not currently in the plans" for the former MVP. Frustrated with his lack of progress, Cam flew to Green Bay Friday for a visit with renowned foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, who previously served as the Panthers' team physician. Per Rapoport, a decision on Newton's rest-of-season status could be made as soon as Monday. Kyle Allen will remain the starting quarterback for the duration of Newton's injury.

As much as I've ragged on Cam for his "look-at-me" approach, hope he heals up and is able to put his foot/shoulder/other injuries behind him. He's a great talent and the NFL is better with him in it, so hope he is able to come back at the same level.

In the meantime, Panthers are finding a way to get it done without him (read: it's all CMC), and still very much in the playoff hunt despite all of the 7+ win teams in the NFC.

Yea, everybody had to see this coming. As an Auburn fan, he's right up there among my favorite players in the league, so this is sad to see. Hopefully he can use this extended time to rehab.

It really blows my mind that people don't think Cam is the unquestioned starter the second he is healthy.
Emotion clouds judgment frequently in life.  Some just can't get passed their preconceived notions to look at the reality in front of them.  FF isn't any different it seems.

Panthers placed QB Cam Newton (Lisfranc) on injured reserve.

With only eight games remaining, this effectively ends Newton's season. Newton's Lisfranc injury wasn't getting better, and he didn't get good news after visiting foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson last week. Kyle Allen will close out the season as the Panthers' starter. With Allen and third-rounder Will Grier also on the roster, it's possible Carolina moves on from Newton this offseason. Newton is owed a non-guaranteed $19.1 million in 2020.

Not really sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me. Its irrelevant either way, since Newton is on IR. I maintain the job was his if he were magically healthy right now.

Kyle Allen has not been a good QB this year, the defense and running game have masked a pretty below average QB. I'm not sure Will Grier wouldn't be an upgrade.

Its possible they let Cam go this offseason, but I think they'd be nuts to go into next year with Allen as their starter, and I'd put the odds they do at about 20-80.

I was agreeing with you about Cam....when healthy, it's his job.  Saying otherwise is typically based in emotion and not logic.  Allen had issues securing the ball early.  He seems to have cleared that up.  Outside of that, I don't see a ton that he is going through that any rookie QB hasn't gone through in the past and I don't see Grier being any different.

Will Grier?  Dude, just stop.

Will Grier?  Dude, just stop.
Why do you dislike Grier so much? I found him to be a very good prospect, with a very good arm, good accuracy, and very good decision making. He just needed time to develop coming from a spread offense.

I honestly thought he was maybe the biggest steal of the draft, and should have been a 1st round pick. I liked him(and still do) more than Daniel Jones, or Drew Lock for that matter.

Amazing what passes for journalism anymore.

Can someone please fill me in on what NFL cities are closer to San Diego than LA?
After reading all of the articles from the past 48 hrs about Cam moving on there is not one, not one concrete reason why the Panthers should just cut Cam and move on especially considering his contract.  In the grand scheme of things its minuscule all things considered.  He will only be 31 next season.  Nobody in their right mind would simply cut him before they can see if he is healthy or not.  It makes absolutely no sense to trot out the "has cam played his last game" jibberish.   Do people really think Kyle allen is a franchise qb?  Is Hurney dumb enough to risk his job on that?  Its so click bait and terrible journalism to trot this dumb ### narrative out there.

While I agreeKyle Allen is not a franchise QB, I heard part of ESPN "Get Up" with Greeny say that Cam's 2020 salary of $20M is not guaranteed and if they cut him, they only have $2M cap hit.  And since Cam wants a new contract, is he willing to play out 2020 on a "prove it" basis to the new owner ?  A new contract would be 3-5 years at $100-150M.  I just don't see Panthers doing that...  it being a "business first" for the owners.

You think he is going to sit out 2020 in a contract dispute after not finishing the prior 2 seasons due to injury?  Come on man of course he would play on a one year deal.  Like I said its just click bait.

I never said that... I implied he would play out 2020 in a "prove it" basis for a new contract.  Then either get a better payday, walk or stay at a "team friendly" contract.

What does that have to do with an article implying the Panthers are going to straight cut him?

Not to mention, if he signs elsewhere after next year the Panthers will get a nice compensation pick in return.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Cam Newton is considering surgery on his injured foot.

Newton was hoping to avoid this fate but now that he's been ruled out for 2019, the nine-year vet is open to exploring all options. If Newton does decide to go under the knife, a determination that should be made within the next week or two, he'd be facing an 8-10 week recovery. This could very well mark the end of an era as Rapoport believes it's "highly unlikely" Newton will remain a Panther in 2020, noting a trade elsewhere as the "most likely" outcome for the former MVP. Kyle Allen will finish out the year at quarterback for Carolina.

Note that Rapoport has been wrong most of the year and just flings soo much poo hoping something sticks.

If surgery only takes 8-10 weeks to heal, then why not just wait until after the season is over? That way there's at least a possibility that Newton could return for the playoffs (if Allen got injured).

Rapport is reporting the Panthers want to rush it so they can trade him before the draft.

Strange for the Panthers to already know that they are moving on.  Makes you think they already have a deal in place to trade Cam.  And that they already have a quarterback in mind that they are going to trade for or sign as a free agent.  I can't imagine they are planning to go into next year with Kyle Allen as the starting quarterback.

That still makes no sense. Even if the Panthers reach the Super Bowl, Cam would be healed 2 weeks before the draft.

NFL Network's Tiffany Blackmon reports Cam Newton will undergo surgery on his broken foot.

Newton tried to rehab the injury without going under the knife, but it just wasn't getting any better apparently. Newton will now add more months to his timeline until he's healthy again. The Panthers are going to have some decisions to make in the offseason in regards to the future of the organization, but it's crystal-clear Kyle Allen is not the beyond-2019 answer under center. Newton has one year left on his contract through 2020.
