Holy crap did I just get lucky. Found a Vaal Regalia in a map, 50 Jewellers for a 6S, 42 fusings for a 6L.
Is the 50/42 from a vendor or from a trade?
All vendors from merciless Hillock runs and a few merciless ledge runs. I've only made 2 total trades in game, one with MadCow and one with SHIZ. Wow, I alched it 3x and ended up with 2.0 regen life, 90% increase energy shield, +100 energy shield (so a total of 627 ES), 34% cold resist,13% lightning resist.
How do you alch something more than once? Do you have to use an orb of scouring in between each alch?

This is a place where the game currency valuation confuses me. So an alch + a scour should be worth more than a chaos (you might want to scour a blue or use a bunch of scours to chance an item a bunch of times) but they seem to either be considered equal or people want every online bid in chaos, so I elected to alch/scour instead of just using chaos orbs just so that I could preserve some currency in case I want to bid on some stuff.

I'm jealous of your 6 linking powers.
My thinking was to build currency and try to 5link something, then build again and hopefully make a run at 6linking some other piece later on down the road. I got a 6s before I got a 5s and a 6l before a 5l.

Total price:

50 Jeweller (12 chaos)

42 Fuse (21 chaos)

3 alchs and 2 scours (2.5 chaos)

So I get a really good 6L for about 1.5 exalts. That's just blind, crazy luck right there.

Well done! What would something like that sell for on the open market?

I've seen terrible 6L weapons go for 3 Exalt, his is the best base energy shield armor, unfortunately its low item level means he misses out on the top two tiers of Energy shield but he somehow managed two good rolls already so that almost makes up for that. Its hard to tell, its an item exactly like a lot of people are looking for lol, gotta be over 13 exalts - 6L top tier armors seem to sit between 15-20 exalts.

picked up the voidhome unigue last night, and it has a lot of negative. Decreased experience gained well here... http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Voidhome
The reduced items and reduced experience definately outweigh the good, which isn't that good anyway.
I have picked up several unique items throughout the game, and I am starting to think their are more so so items than good. I have boots that are great but when you are on low life your speed decreases 40 percent...when you need it most. Very weird concept.

Does anyone have a regal orb they could trade me? I am very poor, almost on food stamps at this point but I probably have enough lower curreny items (fuses, alchs etc) that I could put together a package to trade with.

I have a magic set of armor with perfect linked sockets for my character that would upgrade my current armor from 3100 to 3500 even before any modifiers from going to magic to rare.

If any of you guys farming Merciless need another to increase drops (and exp?), I'm available when I'm on. I have access to Fellshrine and the Ledge.

Let me know when you get to act 3. I might run the ledge with you some just for currency. Speaking of, I know we have several FBGs in the high 60s and 70s, we should team up for xp runs.

Just hit level 60 and made it to the way point in the temple trying to battle Piety.

I am certainly going to make it to merciless at this point but I do fear looking at my character resistance %'s when I do get there.

I won't be on for a few days but solo ledge runs are fun so I'm game. IGN: TheBarrister

CI dual totem spork witch (sort of a cookie-cutter build at the moment but I'm looking for ways to personalize a bit late game) so if you're prone to epilepsy you probably shouldn't party.

I have a 51, 60, 68 and 80 I'm currently playing, if I'm online don't hesitate to whisper me, I'm always down to break up the monotony of grinding. Can't settle till the new gems come out and they keep pushing them back...

Reached level 75 on the Templar tonight. But, something is wrong with my build, I am unable to complete most maps. Weird?

Hit me up to party for xp or loot. Cremell or Mamoux

Any recommendations on how to attack merciless? The first quest is the medicine chest but the jump in level from Terraces (52) to Tidal Island (58) is huge. I had no issues with the terrace, barely had to stop.

I got mowed down almost immediately in Tidal Island. Should I skip the quest and head forward to other areas that are in the lower to mid 50's in level?

I am already at 60 before getting to merciless (yes I suck at this, over-leveling is my only real weapon). I will still follow your advice though and see if I can get to the 63-65 before going back. Still intent on doing this solo for my first character but this may be the point I have to rethink that.

It was the developers intention that side areas (non-progression areas) would have a substantially higher level to provide a challenge.Tidal Island and Fetid Pool are death sentences for people just entering Merciless. Also I just found an Exalted I'm less poor now :moneybag: .

Patch Notes for 0.10.5 just posted, still expected to be released late Sunday CST.

Patch Notes

This patch will probably be deployed on Monday, NZ time (which is Sunday for America).

Version 0.10.5
Content/Features:

  • Added a new Strength Support Gem - Melee Splash: Adds an area of effect splash radius to a single target melee attack.
  • Added a new Strength/Dexterity Support Gem - Multistrike: Causes you to attack quickly three times with a melee attack. New targets are selected for subsequent attacks if available.
  • Added a new Intelligence Support Gem - Power Charge on Critical: Critical strikes with the supported skill have a chance of granting you a Power Charge.
  • Added four new Unique items, two of which were designed by our Diamond supporters.
  • To improve performance, we have reduced the complexity of most visual aura effects.
  • Friendly targets now have an effect showing that they are under the influence of any aura, rather than displaying all the full aura effects.
  • The bandit waypoints have been moved away from their camps to prevent trivial boss farming.
  • The Slums area has been modified so that it's easier to find objectives (and is less circular).
  • All combinations of dual-wielded weapons on the Shadow class that didn't have their own animations now do.
  • The burning effect has been visually improved.
  • Elemental damage visual on-hit effects now only play for the highest damaging element of the hit (tiebreakers: chaos > fire > cold > lightning).
  • Microtransaction effects now affect the entire length of a staff.
  • Some monsters (such as Rhoas) have had their sounds redone.
  • Continued to incrementally improve the art, effects and environments and audio.
Balance:
  • Incinerate: The mana cost progression has been reduced, so higher levels of Incinerate cost less mana to use.
  • Viper Strike: Intentionally does not work with Melee Splash at the moment.
  • The range of Arc used by Blackguard Arcmages has been reduced.
  • On the Cemetery map, there's now more distance between monsters and the spawn point or the door. This makes it a little safer when transitioning into the area.
  • The Voll's Protector unique item has been changed so that it grants a power charge per target critically struck. This does affect items generated in previous patches.
  • The Silverbranch unique item has been changed so that it only grants +1 to bow skills. Old ones will not change unless you use a Divine Orb on them.
  • Critical strikes have been standardised in how they interact with repeating actions. The critical roll is made only once per action, regardless of how many repeats that action does. Exceptions are Tempest Shield (which rolls each time you block), Piety's Ball Lightning (which rolls per target) and Infernal Blow/Explosive Arrow (which roll separately for the explosion).
  • The Additional Accuracy support gem is now Dexterity/Strength rather than pure Dexterity.
  • Melee Splash is first given as a quest reward in the "Sharp and Cruel" quest (Normal difficulty, despite the Cruel in the name) to the Templar, Marauder, Duelist, Shadow and Ranger. Witches receive it in the "Sever the Right Hand" quest (Cruel difficulty).
  • Power Charge on Critical is first given to Witches and Shadows in the "Sharp and Cruel" quest (Normal difficulty) and to Templars in the "Sever the Right Hand" quest (Normal difficulty).
  • Multistrike is currently a world drop support gem.
  • Victario's hidden stashes now drop normal items as well as their quest items.
Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug where some objects such as doors and portals were not clickable.
  • Fixed a bug where ctrl+clicking a skill book quest reward did not work correctly.
  • Fixed a bug where skill book quest rewards would act strangely when taken to other difficulties.
  • Fixed a bug where "Quest Complete" would not be shown if you complete a quest from another difficulty.
  • Fixed problems related to the rendering of some chat messages.
  • Fixed bugs related to the display of quest notifications under some conditions.
  • Fixed a bug with Conduit where some players would not get the shared charges under some conditions.
  • Fixed a bug where Unique items that grant Conduit did not work correctly.
  • Passive tree life regeneration nodes now have consistent art.
  • Fixed a bug where Piety's portals would not disappear when she died.
  • Fixed a bug where increased flask duration wasn't applied to utility flasks.
  • Fixed a bug where you would move if you click on the health or mana orbs while on the passive skill screen.
  • Fixed the world panel not showing correct quest when you click the ! (notification) button for a quest in another difficulty.
  • Fixed a bug with Arctic Armour, mana regeneration, and reaching exactly 0 mana.
If you like this patch, please support us! Thanks again for your great feedback and generous support. It really helps.

There will be an update about combat/movement synchronisation posted in the next few days (in the upcoming Development Manifest forum). There's no need to post in this patch notes thread asking what the status is about these changes - we definitely hear you :)
Such teases still won't release any details on the specifics of the gems... I'm pumped they are still tuning visual effects for performance.

My marauder has sat at 69 forever. Almost have my ranger to 60, though. He pretty much owns running on Ledge Merc now.

What do people feel about Crystal Skin (15% chance to avoid Elemental Status Ailments).? Is it worth taking if I am right next to it?

If you have over 3k health no, actually no in general.

15% chance isn't enough to matter, as long as you can cap your resists and have over 3k life you should only get status'd when a mob crits, if you're near the marauder tree the two 15% reduced enemy critical hit damage nodes are great though, they also lead you into Trolls Blood and like 30%+ life

Call me crazy but I think it is a decent node to take on the way to also taking the 20% avoid shock either 1x or 2x.

still only 2200 in life and no where near any life nodes. My resistences are awful in Merciless (which is why I wondered if I should give it a shot)

I am roughly equidistant from Heart Pierce vs Heart Seeker.

I am leaning towards Heart Pierce, but wanted to make sure that was not a horrible choice.

I have one point pending I can spend. I am working the ledge right now, just made level 61.

You got the market cornered on all of the 8% life nodes ;) Get Diamond Skin (bottom of the page), also there are 8-8-12 life nodes to the north - it will take some points to get there though. More quality life nodes to the west, I'd drop the 3 mana nodes you grabbed and take the other 3 under the duelist start that you are adjacent to for +32% mana and +40% mana regen + 10 int (for +5 mana).

You really are in a bad starting spot imo.

You could take the 6% Attack Speed node right at the beginning of the duelist tree, you already took the 4%.Resists are fine, you should be able to get all of your resists from your gear, which since you have passive points invested already into resists should be even easier.

You have 180% increased life which explains why you are sub 3k health, this should be your priority but as you mentioned you are not particularly close to any nodes.

Just a recommendation, but I removed 7 points from your current build and reallocated them making your future prospects a lot brighter: Build

With your next 5 pts I would take Berserking (15% increased attack speed), Golems Blood (1.5% Life regen), and the three life nodes behind golems blood for 28% increased life.

And if you wanted to go further than that you could get the 40% increase life nodes above the ranger tree for 8 more points which would put you at 248% increased life (which is more than my lvl 80 ranger has who has 4.5k life with about 500 life on gear). This is approximately lvl 74-5

Thanks for all the help guys. I did kind of back myself into a corner here.

Luckily I do have a bunch of respec points and some orbs of regret I can use to try and clean this mess up.

wow, much better! I refunded 8 points based on your guys suggestions. The 3 mana nodes were completely useless. I don't even miss them for a second as my mana was low to begin with and I have no real mana issues with a great mana leech gem I have.

So I really just ended up trading some evasion nodes and one 4% attack speed for Diamond Skin, Berserker, Golem's Blood and more life.

And I am in a nice position now to pick up 20% more life in the next two levels which I will get at the ledge before moving on. Hopefully I can make back the evasion loss with equipment upgrades.

Resistences are now a solid 75, 68, 42. Chaos is still a mess at -60 but I will likely have to deal with that using flasks when the time comes.

TBH chaos resistance isnt really a necessity for ranged characters, but what you do end up with is substantial - I realize that sounds illogical. I would just shoot for a lot of chaos resistance on one or two items and not worry about much else. I think the most chaos resistance I have on any of my characters is 60 (which in merciless gives you 0% resistance).

Yeah, I'm melee and I have -6 in Merciless. Chaos isn't what kills me.

Man so I got tired of never having Chance Orbs so I decided I would do low level magic finding for the chance orb recipe.20% Quantity + 20% quantity more from support, 155% rarity.Whoever is farming alterations at docks, I have to say you are doing it wrong, I was told getting 2-3 shards per scroll was good, I'm getting 8-10 shards per scroll, plus the occasional chance orb from the recipe and in 10 runs I've gotten two uniques...Now if only I could play in the next 24 hours...

I have just been collecting chance orbs and rarely use them. If anyone wants to trade for them let me know. I have 63 in my stash.

I was yes, I'm blood magic, so I'm wearing Aurseize and Wondertrap, with reduced mana grace, anger, wrath, haste and determination I get just under 33% life which leaves me with 1.1k health but I still push out 3k single target and 1k lmp chain lightning arrow.I ran 10 normal runs, Asenath's Mark dropped on first normal merveil kill, very nice helmet. In 10 runs (5 minutes) I made 15 Alterations, 3 Augmentations and 10 Alchemy Shards and im short two rings and an ammy from 2 chance orbs.Did 2 Cruel runs in about 2 minutes still one shot everything first cruel merveil kill dropped Bones of Ullr.Away from my desktop and I hate gaming on my laptop so I won't be able to try out Merciless Merveil with only 1.1k health but I don't think there are enough advantages to do it over cruel (both sub-60 zones, the sub-60 valuable uniques are sub-40).
