***** OFFICIAL Rob Gronkowski - RETIRED *****

Recommended Posts

let me add from Rotoworld:

Quote

Rob Gronkowski (hamstring) is active for Week 3 against the Texans.

ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini has reported Gronk will be on a snap count, something we would have assumed even without a report. Gronk offers mammoth upside every time he takes the field, but comes with far more downside than usual this week. Aside from being at less than 100 percent, he'll be catching passes from third-stringer Jacoby Brissett. Start Gronk if you have him, but don't expect a No. 1 overall finish at tight end.

seen no discussion recently about the impact of snap count.  sure it could mean he'll be in on 60 plays or 30.  but this is the only mention.  is a <100% healthy gronk, playing on, say 50% of the snaps, with a suspicion of blocking more than running routes still a better start than other options?  that's the question you need to answer.

I remember last time Gronk was on a snap count he didn't do a lot between the 20s and had minimal yardage...... Along with 2 TDs.

FWIW: sports talk discussing pregame discussing how no true back up QB for pats (Edelmann) so conservative play calling to protect Brissett from injury.  not sure what that means--quick drops, releases, short routes, more blockers???

I know we're digging for information but I can't believe anyone would make a lineup decision based on what Bill Cowher says in pregame.

I put him back on the bench in favor of Pitta - but wouldn't do that with any lesser option.  Borderline call IMO

How many other people get to talk to BB 1-on-1 before a game?

You really think Belichick is going to tell a reporter something about his game plan? :lmao:

Pitta over Gronk? You two should have your fantasy football licenses revoked.

Cowher is a reporter?

Anyway, I guess we'll find out. If they run any option plays with Edelman, then Cowher had inside info. Nobody else mentioned that.

Going with Gronk over Walford, mainly to have a reason to watch. I think Gronk could get a lot of short range targets as a safety valve, if the rookie is feeling rushed he can just throw it up where only Gronk can reach.

Yes.  Maybe not a very good reporter but he is interviewing the coach to report information on the TV.  Belichick knows that.

Hell. I don't think Belichick would give away anything if it was his own mother asking him questions.

I already stated I was starting Gronk if he was active, and I am.

For the record, my other rostered option is Bennett

I decided for J. Thomas over Gronk.

As much as I would love to roll him out there, just too many negatives. I don't mind some risk, but this is tipping the scales...

Of course if he puts up 20 tonight, I'll kill myself.

Good luck everyone no matter if hes in your lineup or bench...we all win as long as he stays healthy.

That was exactly why I put him in.  If I had Pitta I'd roll with him instead, he got fed the ball last week so a good risk mitigation.

Well first of all because I guarantee the discussion wasn't "well let's activate Gronk because even though we're not quite sure if he's healthy enough to run routes, there shouldn't be much chance for reinjury if we just have him block."

He wasn't in on the first 3rd down of the game...

Let's see how this plays out.

Pats are keeping a heat pack wrapped around his hammy between series...lets hope that's the plan and not because its already tweaked.

Only starting him because my other TE is Eifert and ESPN won't let me keep him on IR until he's officially declared "out". So I don't have a free roster spot anymore.

If they ever get to the goal line, that is.

I'm fully expecting a big fat zero tonight.

On the ~5 yard line, 1st quarter

Targeted, Gronk had defender boxed out in endzone, pass sails over everyone. Could have been an easy 6.

Barely even on the field. Starting him over Pitta was a mistake. Pats are on the seven and he's nowhere to be seen.

He was just in.

Looks like he was trying to run a short pattern and was crushed at the LOS.
