SSL 2 Discussion Thread (1 Viewer)

Maybe I am missing something but I think the intent is for this thread to be the actual draft board and MFL to be updated from here, not the other way around. The pick should be made here and next person PM'd. If you are able to make your pick on MFL at the same time, great. If not, whoever is next, can log in as commissioner to update MFL.

2.11 Comet Hernandez, Aaron NEP TE 8:24:09 p.m.

2.12 Menobrown McFadden, Darren OAK RB 8:24:10 p.m.

2.13 Captain Hook Jones-Drew, Maurice JAC RB 8:24:10 p.m.

Fiddles has been PM'd

3.02: Reggie Bush, RB Lions...

Fiddles PM'd

18 Rounds, so I figure every 3, I'll summarize. What's to say? Great chance to be a monster. I think he can run roughshod over his Divisional competition. At 1.02, given the lineups/scoring, if you have a shot at an anchor RB, I think you have to take it. The only other guy I considered here was Ray Rice, which was before the McKinnie re-signing. Richardson is tailor-made for Norv, and I became a believer in Martin by the end of the year, but I'm very gunshy of both of those situations at this point time. Much more certainty, IMHO with Foster, and of course, now, Rice...

This is the first Draft I've participated in this year. Funny how when it gets back to you at 2.15, you immediately remember how much green there is between ends of a 16-Rounder. Whole Draft Board resets. If an anchor WR was available, I wanted him. Put together a 4-player wish list, and tried for the 1st of what will be 8 times getting inside HNR's head. Again, I went with what I felt was the most stable situation. With the addition of Jackson, retention of Gonzalez, and progression of Jones, I'm excited about what White's going to do, rather than worried about enough balls to go around. Tons of space for Roddy, I think. Both he and Jones ought to generate WR1 stats.

Knew he wasn't coming back to me at 4.15, and with two solid anchors in place, I felt 3.02 was an OK spot to take a shot. Maybe I'll look back and curse myself for ruining what I feel is a solid start, but much of the point of a solid start is what it allows you to do, and I've come up short many times in these Leagues for playing too close to the vest, so this time I'm pulling a Kramer. WR is likely going to get gutted by the time 4.15 rolls around, but I feel better about the WR depth than I do about Bush's potential upside compared to the remaning RB's, from a PPR perspective. I mean, IMHO 64 receptions is a reasonable FLOOR for Bush, and I think he can see the end zone more than some of the other remaining RB with PPR upside. In many of these in the past, it's been my strategy to go RB2BC. I never win, so why not try something different?

That's a lot of writing for 3 picks. It's funny reading this in December and seeing how wrong I was. maybe this time not so much...

3.5 Peyton Manning- QB- Denver

I tried to send a PM to next, Comet, but it does not look like he can receive messages right now.

I fixed the settings on MFL to 8 hour clock and also to skip the pick when timing out if the owner does not have a draft list. That way it won't make picks on it's own and take players the next owner may want. Anyone can log in as commish and add a make up pick.

You guys can handle this how you see fit, but you're asking for trouble here IMO. My suggestion would be to leave the clock off and then when someone times out anyone here can pick someone like Tebow for them and it can be replaced later.

FROM MFL:

3.07 Dpeease Ridley, Stevan NEP RB 11:06:01 a.m.

3.08 Shawdowfax Wilson, David NYG RB 11:06:02 a.m.

3.09 KRSone21 Sproles, Darren NOS RB 11:06:02 a.m.

3.10 Carolina Hustler Jackson, Vincent TBB WR

And I'll take Michael Crabtree at 3.11.

We used MFL and the thread for the PDSL, but it was going MUCH smoother then. If/when you make your pick at MFL, take a quick look at those after you to see if they predrafted.

Meno can u pick on mfl?
Yea I just did but what is weird to me is I thought I already did. I mean I went in, selected Romo and hit the draft button and than came in here and notated the pick. Wierd. When I saw sent me a PM I figured you were sending me a message to say what an idiot I was for picking my second QB.

Pasquino thought we wouldn't make it back to him over the weekend? Ha Ha, some one better let him know we are already in the 5th round. This draft started to fly, nice job everyone. I think the MFL help a lot.

QB - Matt Ryan

RB - Alfred Morris, Vick Ballard

WR - Wes Welker, Stevie Johnson

TE - Jason Witten

So I thought about many scenarios on the turn and I was gonna roll the dice on QB and wait another round as there were only 3 teams that had not picked QB...however we already have 1 team with 2 QBs, at a certain point I would not be happy with having to try and piece together 2-3 QBs out of the 20+ projection range, just a lot of unknown and since I like Dalton and feel like Cinci is loading him up with weapons and whenever he has a big week with AJ I am going to have a nice 1-2 punch.

I thought about Steve Johnson as my WR3, he certainly is a top 25 WR in a start 3-16 team...48 WRs, he's a bargain and would have been my WR3 however there will be lots of WRs later and of all the positions to rotate I felt like WR3 can have a combo of 2-3 guys so I laid off the pick but I think JP got a nice catch at the 6.02. Miles Austin was a thought but he seems to run gimpy a lot and I already am gambling a smidge with Jordy Nelson.

Greg Olsen was a no brainer for me in this format with 2 PPR, he was top 6/7 last season and I expect him to continue with a very solid effort this year even with a new offense going in. I knew there was going to be a TE run and I wanted to get ahead of it. There are lots of guys here but Olsen seems likely to repeat IMO. I thought about waiting but the TE is a major factor in this format and I don't pick again for 31 more, too long of a wait.

Great draft so far, everyone has been really on top of the picks, nice job by BnB, Steve/Rzr, and everyone else spear heading this.

Definitely going to have to do my damage at TE and WR. Too much risk involved with the RBs at the end of the first, so I will try to piecemeal something together there. Was glad to get Bell in the 5th as a starting point. He's got next to no competition for the job. Flacco seemed to take to the new OC pretty well.

7.5 Kenny Britt- WR- Tennesse

Also, thanks for sending me a PM but not really a need as I'm getting updates from MFL, as long as I can keep it out my junk folder.

I'll try to send Comet a PM if his inbox is not full.

7.02: Brandon Pettigrew, TE Lions...Fiddles PM'd...

Well, I think I'm-a gonna get comfy playing catch-up the rest of the way. Could very well be a short shift for me this Season, and a corresponding demotion. Gambled and lost, I think, taking Big Ben at 5.02.

Now, I think that Year 2 of Todd Haley in Pittsburgh is going to be a big improvement. I think Big Ben has some very real upside, even missing several pieces from last year...but all things considered, it will probably be proven that I would have wound up stronger by passing on QB there and going another route. Given the format, I gambled that more QB would go through 5/6, and bump something down nice down to me at 6.15...not so, but 13 WR and 6 TE's did go, and that could be my undoing.

It's not that I don't think Mike Williams can be a solid WR3, but there are things I look for out of my WR 3 that guys like Torrey Smith, James Jones, Steve Smith and DeSean Jackson offer - big play potential. Ironically, for how risk-averse I can sometimes be, WR3 is traditionally the position I load with boom-bust guys. Then again, I've never won one of these, and I've already strayed from my usual path. Williams has upside, yes, but right now I'm relying more on the opinion of others that he's capable of hitting it. I'm inclined to think at this point he's much more capable of being closer to average, and that's not enough to merit taking a QB at 5.02, over some of the WR that were available.

Although there was a mini-run on TE in the 6th, I think I escaped being punished for waiting until 7.02. VDavis, Olsen, Rudolph, Pitta, Cook and Daniels are all different faces of the same man, IMHO, and I think Pettigrew has a higher ceiling than any of those guys....there was still enough TE depth at 7.02 for me to have options to consider. Whittled it down to Pettigrew vs Finley. Had Pettigrew last year, and think he HAS TO improve on the drops, especially in the Red Zone/End Zone. Some interesting combo's I'm developing at this point. Big Ben/AntBrown and RgBush/Pettigrew. Through 7.02:

Big Ben

AFoster/RBush

RWhite/AntBrown/TBMWilliams

Pettigrew
