WIS XVII: Long Balls, Boy Bands, and Booming Economies
Theme: 1990-1999 Era, $110m salary cap.

Google Doc link: Link

WIS League Number: TBD

PLAYER DRAFT

a) Player draft order will be serpentine (1-24 odd rounds, 24-1 even rounds). Order will be determined by dice roll.
b) Drafted players' seasons may range from 1990 through 1999, inclusive.
c) Full & combined seasons only. No partial seasons.
d) American League or National League seasons only. No Federal League seasons.

STADIUM DRAFT
e) Stadium draft picks will be made simultaneous with the second-round player picks.
f) Stadiums must have been in use at some point between 1990 and 1999, inclusive.
g) Stadiums must be unique in architecture (e.g once Enron Field is selected, Minute Maid Park is off the board).

WIS LEAGUE RULES
h) $110,000,000 team salary cap will be enforced. Salary minimum is $1,000,000 per player. There is no salary maximum per player.
i) No clones.
j) DH will be used.
k) No AAA will be used

TRADES
l) No trading draft picks until the 5th round has begun. Player-for-player trades are permitted at any time during the draft and up to the WIS league trading deadline.

m) In-draft trades: Player salaries do not lock until the team is entered into WIS, so a player traded during the draft is eligible to be assigned whatever year the owner wishes.

n) Post-draft trades: Once rosters are locked into WIS, a traded player may not change year or salary.

o) Post-draft trades: Teams must maintain a position at or under the $110,000,000 salary cap for a trade to be considered valid.

DRAFT CLOCK
p) The draft clock will begin with the first pick of round 2.
q) The clock will be a 1-hour clock that runs from 9am-7pm in the poster's time zone.
r) The traditional end-of-draft "free-for-all" will cover Round 25. A specific 24-hour time period for making a selection will be determined.

Interested. Will be working out of country this week. When do you think the actual draft will start?

I'd say its unlikely we get it fired up before late in the week at the very earliest. We still have half the spots to fill and 24 dice rolls to make.

Salary cap? Doing it as a salary cap gives the league a better chance to win the Tournament of Champions later, plus it's fun. Perfect opportunity to do it here.

I like the added dimension of salary, but last time was a train wreck with all the min salary relievers.

Will be added to the rules soon, but baseball card pics with picks will be mandatory this time around. :moneybag:

Add a minimum individual salary so people don't load their benches and bullpens with $200,000 bums

This could work. What's the right formula?

Also considering requiring each team to adopt a boy band as a team representative. Checking on the logistics for this, but I'm thinking we can find 24 of them.

We did this in Alphabet Soup

Every season used must be between $1,000,000 and $10,000,000 (inclusive) for pitchers and between $1,000,000 and $8,000,000 (inclusive) for position players
For this era, I'd suggest dropping the pitcher ceiling from $10M to $9M and leave hitters status quo.

Why are we dropping the best seasons again? What's the purpose?

Parity? The uber Maddux and Pedro seasons will be a huge advantage to some lucky dice rollers

There have always been outliers in our drafts.

If we're going to cut off the cream of the crop, do it at 10 mil. The ones 9-10 mil are noticeably more "normal" than those 10 mil and up.

We are ready to roll, folks.

Also considering the use of the designated hitter this time. Seems like it would be within the spirit of the 90's. :roidflex:

OK, so a quick poll of the league on these ideas:

A- Salary cap or not?

B- Designated hitter or not?

C- If we have a salary cap, for or against salary max? (salary min will be a given this time)

A & C are pretty much mutually exclusive. If we have a team cap, the $13M Maddux is a lot less attractive. Of the two, I prefer C because it's easier to draft.

Not a fan of the DH in the sim because I think it reduces the importance of benches and bullpens.

My question is why stop someone from taking $13 mil Maddux if that's how they wish to allocate their funds? Assuming we pick the right cap number, they should have to sacrifice elsewhere. And without the benefit of 200k relievers, that could be costly.
