Jamaal Charles Thread: Hall of Famer? (1 Viewer)

Not every game will be a blow out.
That's exactly it. I think it's fair to say that last night will be more the exception rather than the rule. Don't forget that many were burying this team and its offensive line woes before last night.

I would expect a lot more close games with the Chiefs D, which would probably tilt the touches to JC's favor as long as he is healthy. And Davis will come in when Charles needs a breather and to keep him fresth.

70/30 Charles sounds about right, but maybe higher when the Chiefs have to pass more than usual.

Not every game will be a blow out. Charles is a huge difference maker...it's his show in tight games. In blowouts....they get to that point with him producing...then rest him and give Davis some work. This is IMO 70/30 type split. Charles is clearly the more talented and explosive back. It's not debatable.

I own Charles in several leagues (since his rookie year) and also have the handcuff in all but one league.....I want Charles to be Charles....and by all accounts he will be. Nice to see him back in the saddle again.
This is the answer.

If the Chiefs don't blow everyone out, you're not going to see these every week events where everyone gets a big piece of pie and Charles is the first and second guy to sit down at the table (behind maybe Reid).

I've been offered Charles from the 0-4 owner in my dynasty league. He wants Sammy Watkins and his 2015 1st round rookie pick back, which will likely be top 2. Didn't expect his cost to be that low after last night, but he does have a brutal schedule going forward.....

complete agreement of this assessment.

A pair of top-2 draft picks is a "low" cost for a 27-year-old RB?

I'm in "win now" mode - Watkins isn't doing much for me behind Calvin, D Thomas and "our boy" Harvin. The pick obviously can't win me any games now. Doing this deal hurts me long term, but it improves my starting lineup today.

I wasn't saying whether you should or shouldn't do it. I wouldn't. Others would. I was more just expressing surprise at the idea that two top-2 draft picks registered as a "low" price for anyone. That seems like a very steep price to pay for any player, even the ones who are worth it.

Rotoworld:

Jamaal Charles (ankle) escaped his Week 4 return with nothing more than normal soreness.

Charles will likely be limited in practice on Wednesday with the Chiefs on a short week, but he'll be ready to rock for Sunday's showdown with the 49ers. If there was a concern from Monday's win, it was Knile Davis getting 17 touches, but it was largely game-flow related, while Charles missed some time with cramps. Even with Davis getting work, Charles will continue to monopolize red-zone touches. Charles is back to being a weekly top-three option at running back.

I love that Charles can have 90 yard 3 td game people are "concerned" about his workload

If Reid's history is anything to take in to account, he likes a lead back. Davis will still get 5-10 carries a game but ideally, Andy likes having his lead back get about 18-25 touches (rush and catch) a game. I think as long as Charles is healthy, its still his show in the realm of 70-30 split.
Charles had roughly 70% of RB rushes last year. At the half of the Patriots game, he had roughly 70% of RB rushes. Barring blowouts, he'll probably get 70% of the rushes. And be the passing back. He's a stud, plain and simple.

Not a lot. He's a slippery little guy. Runs pretty hard to not be a "big" back.

I would say if you are in a "win now" and you can add Charles, you do it. Like you say, nothing you are giving up is hurting you right now and while you do have to think about the Panorama picture of it all, you still try to win in the year you are in (that is what I think is the most overlooked, mis-thought thing with a lot of dynasty owners...They try to build teams of nothing but 26 year old studs on the rise and never win the year they are playing).

Anyway, You do the deal, you improve your chances and you think of it this way: I'm giving myself a chance to win now, I don't know what that pick will be that I am giving away (and I realize all draft picks are crap shots and not guaranteed Adrian Petersons), and I might get my cake and eat it too because if I do win, that means Charles probably helped and that means Charles' value is justified in this trade.

Push the button :)

So you agree with me.

:hifive:

How about the third and one call in the fourth and Reid called a pass to the flat? Awful play calling today, just vintage Reid.

4th and inches at the opponents ~45 and knile was in.
Makes sense, Davis is the power back.
he shouldnt be. charles is excellent in short yardage. he wasnt winded or anything. he absolutely should be in the game in high leverage situations like that.
Terrible play calling today and that is the long and short of it. They had several short yardage situations and several manageable ones and it looked like they were trying to outsmart the niners and pass it.

What I saw the most was that little knife Davis "cutting into the workload" issue is non existent.

Jamal needs more than 2 passes thrown to him ...he excels in the passing game

Speaking Monday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid admitted it was "negligence" to give Jamaal Charles just 11 touches in Sunday's loss to the Titans.

Inexcusable. If you don't realize it until after the game, you shouldn't be a coach
Andy's placating the fans. Andy does what Andy wants to do and no one will tell him how to run his team. He'll take the blame, constantly telling the media he "has to do a better job". He says it over and over again with no real change. At least that was his m.o. in Philly. Maybe he's a changed man now.
Reading some of the comments at the bottom of the linked article, seems some KC fans are starting to figure out what Eagles fans knew for years. Andy passes the ball; he does not commit to the run and no one will tell him what to do.

Lol how many times is that guy going say that? Ugh
Actions speak louder than words, particularly when it comes to NFL coaches. I agree with the poster above who said that Reid is a dyed in the wool passing coach. He won't change.
Which is all the more astonishing given how effective the run first offense was for him just last year

Its almost like Reid realized he's winning by running and thought "can't have that - gotta show I can win by passing". Charles' touches have decreased since their '13 bye week and coincidentally (?) they haven't won nearly as much.

This is why Philadelphia fans wanted him OUT of town!

KC has been winning with a steady D, strong running game and kelce! I saw no kelce and 19 rushing attempts! Wtf? Kniles has killed defense's and he was in for 7 plays? Andy, you have to know the strengths of the team! USE IT OR GET THE HELL OUT!

Jeff Werner · St. Cloud State UniversityHow many times is Andy going to say this after a loss? He has been coaching too long for this type of play calling. Give your best athlete the ball and see what happens..dang it's not that hard.

Russell Warren · Top Commenter · Works at Harrah's North Kansas City Casino & HotelAdd a comment...I would think he'd learned from the first game. I would have even ran on first down before 2 minute warning. The're in the nickel and had a good chance at yardage and a known clock stoppage. Even three yards makes easier calls for 4 downs. Any pee-wee coach could see that

Martin Cail · Top Commenter · The Ohio State UniversityI don't understand how Reid can call such incredible games and then turn around and lay a huge egg. I remember Philly fans warning of his "it's my fault" shtick getting old. I don't recall one pass to Charles. More DAT!

Walter Metz · Quincy UniversityLike it or not Andy we are a running team. I realize you don't like that idea but that is the way it is. We are not built to be a passing team. JC should have a min. 20 carries a game and another 20 carries for the other backs. Min.

Jim Mcafee · Top Commenter · Sales Manager at Alert Alarm Systems, IncDUH! How many times does this lesson need to be apologized for in order for us to know either Andy Reid is a slow learner or he is disingenuous.

You're not even a year and a half in KC fans. The fun is just starting. And remember, Andy's the best coach you'll ever have.

Aren't the Chiefs one of these teams that script the first 15 plays?

If so, then you have NO excuse for not developing the correct flow and approach to the game because to ignore it means you didn't have a clue as to what you were planning for all week.

Really, how do you have both Charles and Davis and you can't figure out a way to get 2-3 yards at crucial points of the game?

He's a passaholic...he can't help himself. He may be able to fight it from time to time but he will always go back to it and cost his team games because of his stubborn ways.

why is the head coach even calling the plays? dont they have an OC?
Doug Pederson. Former Green Bay QB when Andy was the QB coach there and he brought him to Philly to be the placeholder for McNabb. He's basically Andy's right hand.

Kansas City fans seem like really good fans. I feel bad for them. Now they get to put up with this ####. Glad we (Eagles fans) don't have to deal with this anymore.

Oh wait. I have Charles in FF...

standard league, i just traded ellington and ivory for him if it doesnt get vetoed which is a possibility. hopefully, they start using him more. throwing him some passes like last year would be nice.
