QB Tom Brady, TB (1 Viewer)

Much was made this morning about an "extra-pouty" Tom Brady at his post-game presser yesterday. I have to say it was quite obvious and one of the reporters even asked straight out if he was feeling OK as he did not seem his normal "we got the win, but we need to get better... we've got some things to work on" self.

Maybe he got beat up a little more than normal yesterday, but he did sound more like the losing QB than the one that just got a tough "W"

Due to what the team is calling a right elbow injury, the Patriots are listing QB Tom Brady as questionable for Sunday’s matchup against the Cowboys. Jarrett Stidham is Brady’s backup.
Is that why he was such a pickle-#### during his post-game presser last week? Did he already feel like something was off, physically?

I honestly can't remember him ever acting like he did last week. He always musters up a smile and stays somewhat positive regardless of the circumstance. I don't believe it was over the offensive execution. Their offense has stunk all year. Why would disappointment suddenly creep in now?

He seemed... gulp... worried?

This the reason why his throws look like noodle arm lately?  To pick up an elbow injury from the QB's throwing arm in practice is rare.  It's not like he's being tackled in practice.  Unless someone accidentally knocked him over or bumped his elbow?  Could be Evil Bill playing mind tricks again and Brady throws for 400 yards 3 TDs.  Who knows.

Tom Brady completed 17-of-37 passes for 190 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions in the Patriots' 13-9, Week 12 win over the Cowboys.

Brady struggled to get the offense on track, as the Cowboys’ pass rush and bend-don’t-break secondary consistently kept the Patriots from stringing together long drives. The lack of a dominant rushing game didn’t help, but that’s largely been the case throughout the season. Additionally, the porous weather conditions and absence of Mohamed Sanu (ankle) as well as Phillip Dorsett (concussion) made this an uphill battle for the passing game. Still, the production was also a reminder that Brady doesn’t boast much of a fantasy ceiling these days inside of the Patriots’ bottom-10 offense in yards per play. The good news is that next week’s matchup against the Texans’ banged-up secondary should yield better results.

Another win, but quests for answers on offense remain for Patriots

Excerpt:

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- One week after quarterback Tom Bradyexpressed frustration with the New England Patriots' offense, the short-handed attack sputtered through another game -- a 13-9 win against the visiting Dallas Cowboys.

The optimistic outlook? Playing without top receivers Phillip Dorsett(concussion) and Mohamed Sanu (ankle), they buy themselves more time to find some answers. The Patriots played turnover-free, situational-smart football to complement the club's strengths -- defense and special teams.

The pessimistic view? Questions persist about whether the unit can consistently string together positive plays to lead the team to victory should the defense falter. On a rain-soaked, windy day when the Patriots' three-receiver set consisted of Julian Edelman and rookies N'Keal Harry and Jakobi Meyers -- and Benjamin Watson and Matt LaCosse split time at tight end -- there wasn't a lot of firepower in the passing game.

Brady finished 17-of-37 for 190 yards with one touchdown.

According to ESPN's Stats & Information, this is the third-lowest completion percentage of Brady's career (minimum 30 attempts). Earlier this season against the Bills, he had completed 46.2% of his passes, so two of the four games in his career with the lowest completion percentage have come this season.

For context, this was Brady's 204th game with at least 30 attempts.

Brady's passer rating numbers are weak.

How much do you think this is influenced by how many pass plays the Patriots have run? Brady leads the league in attempts (439, 39.9/gm) and completions (273, 24.8/gm).

The team is putting an even heavier burden to carry the offense on Brady than last year. In 2018, Brady finished 9th in attempts (570, 35.6/gm) and 8th in completions (375, 23.4/gm).

This year, the Patriots are 11th in rushing attempts (302, 27.5/gm). In 2018, the Patriots were 3rd in rushing attempts (478, 29.9/gm)

Tom Brady completed 24-of-47 passes for 326 yards with three touchdowns and an interception in Week 13 against the Texans.

Brady played much worse than his stats, with most of his yards and two of his touchdowns coming in the fourth quarter. He struggled to find his receivers all night and had a second interception called back on a penalty. Brady had his full supporting cast with Mohamed Sanu and Phillip Dorsett returning this week but locked on to Julian Edelman and James White for over half his completions. This ended up one of Brady's better games despite his obvious miscues. Brady's ceiling isn't very high, but he gets a potential shootout matchup with the Chiefs in Week 14.

Tom Brady (toe, elbow) was a limited participant at Thursday's practice.

It's a downgrade for Brady, who opened the week as a full participant at Wednesday's practice. This is also the first time that Brady has been listed with a toe injury. Regardless, he should be fine for Sunday's showdown with Kansas City, a rematch of last year's AFC title game. Seemingly at the end of his rope, a visibly frustrated Brady only had eyes for Julian Edelman and James White in last week's loss to Houston. Even in a game with shootout potential, the slumping Brady won't be a recommended starter outside of two-quarterback leagues for the first week of the fantasy playoffs.

Tom Brady completed 19-of-36 passes for 169 yards with a touchdown and an interception while adding two rushes for 20 yards Sunday in the Patriots’ Week 14 loss to Kansas City.

Brady was tagged for three sacks, resulting in a loss of 20 yards. The four-time Super Bowl MVP has led countless fourth-quarter comebacks throughout his career and threatened to add another to his tally Sunday, though this time he couldn't quite finish the job, missing Julian Edelman on a game-deciding fourth-and-three with a minute and change remaining in the fourth quarter. Though Brady was charged with an interception on an apparent miscommunication with Edelman, the two also connected on a 37-yard touchdown, which came on a first-quarter flea-flicker drawn up by Josh McDaniels. Brady should have been credited with a second TD on N'Keal Harry's fourth-quarter catch-and-run, though officials ruled him out at the three-yard line and the Patriots were out of challenges. Sunday's loss, the Patriots' second in as many weeks after starting 10-1, marked New England's first home defeat since Week 4 of 2017. The slumping Pats gets a freebie at Cincinnati in Week 15.

Pressure him and double Edelman with a guy jamming him at the LOS. Pittsburgh of course never learned this. He can't get away and is gonna throw the ball away as soon as he sees someone coming at him. KC brought the heat like you need to. He's in big trouble when he faces the Ravens as long as they do the same.

Wasn’t so easy when Gronk was open every time. But yeah he’s very limited at this stage against a pass rush.

Tom Brady (elbow) is practicing in full for Week 15 against the Bengals.

Brady had his elbow heavily wrapped after last week's loss to Kansas City, but his availability for Sunday's game in Cincinnati was never a concern. The 42-year-old has looked his age recently, though his matchup against the lowly Bengals couldn't be much better. The Patriots enter Sunday as 9.5-point road favorites.

Tom Brady completed 15-of-29 passes for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Patriots' 34-13, Week 15 win over the Bengals.

It was an easy victory, but a thoroughly uninspiring day for Brady, who has now averaged fewer than 5.0 yards per attempt in back-to-back starts. For the season, that number is all the way down to 6.47. Not exactly ideal for someone who entered Week 15 leading the league in attempts. Brady was sailing throws over open receivers, and tossed a potential touchdown at Sony Michel's feet. The Bills are not a Week 16 get-right spot for the fantasy finals.

Well, as a fantasy owner that has won championships on the arm of Tom Brady... I just wanted to come here and say "thanks for the memories"

Wanted to get that in just in case he doesn't survive Saturday.

The Bills have absolutely smothered Brady ever since McDermott has come on board. If anyone is starting Brady in their Championship this week, the odds are that they’re going to be disappointed.

Funny how this thread is from 2013, especially since he's won 3 Super Bowls since.  That's embarrassing for the OP.

Was jimmy G specifically taken to be Brady's successor considering when and where he was taken vs other QBs drafted by the Pats like Cassell Mallet O'Connell and Brisset who were likely backup and/or developmental types with upside.

ESPN's Mike Reiss said the Patriots are in "wait and see" mode regarding Tom Brady's future.

Reiss confirmed the two sides have not discussed a contract since restructuring Brady's deal in August. Some have wondered whether Saturday will be Brady's final home game—or game of any kind if the Patriots lose—for the team that drafted him 199th overall in 2000. The Patriots have been predictably mum on the subject with Brady expressing Thursday that he's never been one for nostalgia. Brady has certainly lost a step this year—2019 ended a run of 10 straight Pro Bowl nods for the future Hall of Famer—though his supporting cast deserves at least some of the blame for his recent struggles.

TOM BRADY'S DEMISE: Shockingly, New England has the worst QB in the playoffs

I didn't think that I would ever see the day when Tom Brady was viewed as a liability for the New England Patriots, but the 42-year-old is the worst quarterback in the playoffs.

I know the Twitterverse will scorch me for disrespecting the G.O.A.T. after all that he has accomplished during a spectacular 20-year run that includes six Super Bowl titles, four Super Bowl MVP awards and three NFL MVPs, but there's no way that anyone can take an honest look at his 2019 performance and not reach the same conclusion.

Brady not only enters this single-elimination tournament with the second-lowest passer rating among playoff quarterbacks -- 88.0, ahead of only Josh Allen's 85.3 -- but his play over the last half of the season puts him at the bottom of the entire quarterbacking barrel. Since Week 9, TB12's completion percentage (56.9), yards per attempt (5.9) and passer rating (80.8) all rank 28th or worse (among quarterbacks who attempted at least 100 passes in this period). During that span, Brady had a lower completion percentage than Allen, a lesser yards-per-attempt figure than Duck Hodges and a worse passer rating than Mitchell Trubisky.

Wow!

If that's not enough to make you queasy, just take a look at his numbers from the 2019 season after he torched the Patriots' first three opponents (the Steelers, Dolphins and Jets) with spectacular play from the pocket (SEE: 67.9 percent completions, 303.7 pass yards per game, 8.6 yards per pass attempt, 7:0 TD-to-INT and a 116.5 passer rating). Since Week 4, Brady's completion percentage (59.4), yards per attempt (6.2) and passer rating (82.0) all rank among the bottom six in the league, and his passing yards per game (242.0) and touchdown-to-interception ratio (17:8) certainly don't stand out as elite production.

If we took the name off the back of Brady's jersey, there's no way that you would fear the Patriots' QB1 in a matchup against any of the elite quarterbacks in the tournament. Brady would be the underdog in one-on-one matchups against Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson, and you can at least make a very strong case for Jimmy Garoppolo, Ryan Tannehill, Kirk Cousins and Josh Allen (running skills give him the edge) in shootouts against TB12.

I'm not being a hater. If you make the assessment strictly on how each quarterback performed on the field this season, you can't make Brady the favorite in any of those matches. Despite his playoff greatness and legendary status, he hasn't outplayed the competition, and the numbers speak for themselves. While you can make the case that Brady hasn't been helped out by a supporting cast that's struggled with the dropsies -- New England's 34 drops rank as the second-most in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus -- the quarterback hasn't performed up to the TB12 standard and it has seriously limited the Patriots' offense.

Brady used to carve up defenses attempting to rattle him with blitzes, but now he wilts under the pressure. After posting a 52.1 percent completion rate under pressure from 2016 to '18, per Next Gen Stats, he's only completed 37.4 percent of those passes in 2019 -- the third-lowest mark in the league this season. Brady has also struggled to throw the ball to the outside. He has the lowest passer rating (67.4) among 32 qualified quarterbacks on throws to wide targets, along with a 53 percent completion rate and a 5:6 TD-to-INT ratio on these tosses. Compare those numbers to Brady's production in the past three seasons:

2018: 63.4 comp%, 11:2 TD-to-INT, 101.4 passer rating.
2017: 61.1 comp%, 10:5 TD-to-INT, 96.2 passer rating.
2016: 60.8 comp%, 9:1 TD-to-INT, 101.6 passer rating.

Studying the All-22 Coaches Film, I observe more accuracy and ball-placement issues from the veteran QB than I've ever seen before. Brady repeatedly misses open receivers down the seams or along the boundary on vertical throws, and his inconsistencies have prompted defensive coordinators to come after the 14-time Pro Bowler with reckless abandon.

"He's not the same player," a former NFL defensive coordinator who routinely faced Brady told me. "He's not as accurate and he's missing more throws than ever. Plus, he's more affected by pressure because he doesn't want to get it. The pieces around him aren't as good, either, but he definitely is not the player that made you pause before dialing up a pressure."

The Patriots have been able to win Super Bowls in a variety of ways during a remarkable two-decade run, but hoisting the Lombardi Trophy this February will require them to play around their quarterback. Despite his unparalleled resume, Brady will have to hope the squad can carry him to the title as the team's weakest link.

It’s easy to pooh-pooh on Tom right now, but don’t forget the Pats have the worst weapons in the NFL.

That was debatably also true in 2018, then they went and lost Gronk.

Brady had the worst QB rating of all playoff QBs not named Josh Allen. He had ranked 28th or worse in nearly every stat category: comp % of 56, yards per pas was ridiculously low , 17:8 TD:int ratio final 8 weeks. 2019 was a tale of two seasons for Brady - he started out white hot, then faded , badly, after week 4.

he's shot.it's over. you can give him AB and J. Rice in his prime, what good is it if he throws the ball at their feet. or over their heads. or behind them. take the name off the jersey, he's a lesser Marcus Mariota. He looks terrible. and he can't handle the blitz anymore. that was the key, everyone has blitzed the heck out of him, they don't fear his abilities anymore.

Bucky Brooks had a nice column write-up about Brady recently taling in depth about these things, on nfl.com

a former DC he's spoken to says the same things, Brady isn't close to what he once was.thats why they've lost 5 of their last 6 or whatever it is. they're cooked. Edelman isn't good without the steroids and PEDs, I guess.

There's no question that Brady has dropped off some, but there were much bigger issues than his play in the second half of the season.  Nkeal harry sucked out loud.  31 targets, 14 receptions. Sanu 27 out of 52 looks ok but most of that was 10 catches on 14 targets against the ravens running short curls.  The remaining 17 of 38 sucked. Dorsett wasn't much better. Jakobi sucked and got hurt.  Edelman was beaten up and a shell of himself by the end.  There was just nobody he could rely on to make a short catch.  You can't have a high percentage passing offense without guys who can catch the ball reliably and they just didn't have that this year.  Couple that with Brady being a little slower and a little less accurate and it was a huge problem.  And the deep ball just wasn't a threat.  Brady took so many deep shots this year to "keep defenses honest", but i can't remember it working at all.

Congrats to the titans they played well. Will be good to see some new blood in the superbowl. I still. hope we get to see Brady go for 7 but no complaints about this run ending, it was amazing and will never be repeated.

WIll Tom take a hometown discount for another shot?

Can BB (and Kraft) see a path to a continuation of the dynasty in the post Brady years that doesn't include a blow up/rebuild phase? It would have to lean heavily on the 2020 draft as the cap isn't all that great.

Interesting times in Boston

Other than the Eagles. Not that they are gonna win but they might.

What if Gronk made Brady these last few years and nobody realized it?
A huge factor was having Gronk and Edelman running those 5-7 yard routes and getting those 1st downs that didn't happen with the guys he's throwing to now. Cover up Edelman, he has problems. Couldn't do that with both those guys.

Also has Amendola for a few years who was pretty clutch
