Official EJ Manuel

Looking forward to week 3 when he has Watkins in for most of the game. Given his inaccuracy and Watkins' ability to pull in errant throws I think Manuel is going to look to him a lot.

Been his favorite target in camp.

(Rotoworld)E.J. Manuel had "one of his most accurate throwing days" in a joint practice with the Steelers Thursday.

Analysis: Manuel completed 13 of his first 16 passes and "looked clear headed with most of his decision making." WR Mike Williams said, "This was the best I have ever seen him." Manuel has struggled throughout training camp and the preseason, but has put several solid practices together over the last week. If Manuel can improve, the Bills offense has a chance to surprise this season.

On the first drive Manuel was 4 for 5, but they were all check downs to either the RB or TE. He had one awful throw to Warkins that was wiped out due to a defensive penalty and overthrew a wide open Robert Woods on 3rd and 1.

And he throws a pick.

He isn't good. Trust me, I am a lifelong Lions fan and if there is one thing I know, it's a bad QB.

You know what's unbelievable? The biggest criticism/problem for Stafford is his shoddy footwork. His previous QB coach was heavily criticized for never getting it fixed for Stafford. So who did the Bills bring in to help Manuel and his shoddy footwork? Yup, same guy. Unbelievable.

Wow, well there are reasons some of these franchises continue to struggle year after year.

Bills Camp Report: Day 30

http://espn.go.com/blog/buffalo-bills/post/_/id/12249/bills-camp-report-day-30

Excerpt:

On the heels of his 77 percent completion rate in Thursday's practice, EJ Manuel topped it with an 81 percent night Monday. He went 17-for-21 in team drills, completing four passes to Fred Jackson, four to Robert Woods, three to C.J. Spiller, and one to Mike Williams. Nothing was too deep -- it was a heavy dose of short hooks and flare passes to the running backs -- but his accuracy was on point and he didn't throw any interceptions. It was a good night of practice for Manuel, without Watkins.

My assessment after re-watching the game was essentially the same. Good decision. Asking and largely accurate passes. There were a few times he probably settled rather than going deeper, but the shorter stuff really was what the Steelers were giving him. Going deeper to his receivers on most plays would have been forcing the ball. If a team is going to consistently give you easy passes for 4-7 yards over and over and over again, who cares if the QB isn't going downfield?

That's taking what the D gives. LeBeau runs an attacking D that forces a team to engineer long drives by not getting beat deep on passes. He figures he can force a bad play or a turnover with excessive pressure and forcing an O to piecemeal together a long string of plays. The short passes are the way to attack it.

we sure that pass was intended for Chandler? looked too high for him and there was a receiver coming around on a curl behind him. either way, bad decision with two defenders between the two receivers. or just bad routes.

That pick wasn't his fault, the TE slipped on the cut.

He will make up for that on the next one.

TE slipped, but the pass looked a bit high as well.

I'm not sure who to blame for it, but the play calling is just awful. It's not "taking what the D gives him", it's basically been the same conservative dink-and-dunk going back to last pre-season.

This game against Tampa is very telling of how little Manuel is progressing. Dreadful.

I always thought people gave Manuel to hard a time, but man, he is playing like he has no chance to hold this job. He had some passes that shoulda been picked were dropped by DBs too.

Who's the back up in Buf?

apparently Tuel because Thad has been terrible too.

They had a whole off season to try and improve the back up spot and or bring in some competition for Manuel. This qb situation is a train wreck.

this group mis managed the qb position last year so I would only expect they would this year too.

Yeah, it really is. I didn't realize how bad it was until Mac posted that. That is simply dreadful.

Q: What's worse for a team than having EJ Manuel at QB?

A: Having EJ Manuel at QB and having no backup QB.

Not only does EJ look horrific, but the O-line has been awful as well. Guys unblocked or instantly in Manuel's face, run game stuffed over and over, and penalty after penalty after penalty.

All that being said, Buffalo really has been hosed quite a few times by terrible penalty calls. They've had a lot of big plays called back on questionable at best penalties.

TD

The play before it was awful. How do you just run out of bounds and take a loss in the redzone instead of throwing that away? That was just mind numbingly dumb.

And a TD against a bunch of benchwarmers and future grocery baggers is meaningless.

That was bad. He didn't even consider throwing it away...once he saw the situation his focus was on losing 7 yards.

Hell, I'm surprised FSU redshirted Jameis Winston as a freshman in 2012. He likely would have beaten out Manuel.

One of my personal what-ifs. Coulda been playing for a third in a row, or Jameis coulda been so overwhelmed that last year wouldn't have happened.

What do you think cousins is worth? A first rounder?

I'd be stunned if Cousins got traded. RG3 missing some time is an inevitability, as reckless as he looks running.

They should trade NOW for hoyer. Or henne. Or cousins.

This guy is pure garbage. They'll draft a new QB if they can't get one of those guys. Matt McGloin is infinitely better this this bum.

I wonder how much of that decision was made by the coach, and how much was made by the GM.

if a decision on the franchise qb is anything but a consensus between the two then you're probably looking at a new regime in a couple of years.

I would think a true consensus between any coach and their GM is incredibly rare.

No idea if Nassib is now or will end up being better, but I still think it made a ton of sense to take him when he was available in the 4th. SMH.

Agreed. I remember thinking that that whole draft. Oh, and this year's draft, too.
