Tate going for x-rays.

both RBs get 2 weeks, but I would worry about a Foster's hammy more than tates ribs

Yeah, dealing with a rib injury is almost always just a pain tolerance/management issue. A hammy injury, especially for Foster is much more worrisome, even with him getting the week off.

He was ruled out rather quickly.

Similar to the Vernon Davis situation. Took him 2 weeks to get back.

we don't know how bad it is, and Foster has a little bit of a history on hammy's. VD owners should consider themselves very lucky he came back so quick and effective as he did.

Didn't Foster return from a hamstring injury after missing only one game a couple of years ago? My point is, we won't know much of anything for at least 10 days. No time to panic with 2 weeks to rest.

It doesn't. They go on bye, he has time to heal up and every indication is that it isn't thought to be serious.

Tate lovers finally got their chance when Foster went out after the first series. Tate looked like a slow plodder before and after his rib injury. No moves at all. The worst outing I've seen from him in a while. There is some real opportunity for whoever runs the ball if they stick with Keenum. Kubiak will want to lean on the running game and there will actually be a threat on all those bootlegs with someone like Keenum the defense will have to account for.

Buy low candiate? Is there any concern this will continue to be a lingering issue?

I'm considering shipping of L. Bell, Stacy, and Harvin off for him, but can't pull the trigger because of the injury.

I'd risk it with that trade. Stacy's value is officially at its peak. Bell looks promising and should be solid to good the rest of the way. That's your only clear loss. Harvin...who the hell knows? I have harvin, and am way less optimistic than most. I'd deal the uncertainty, personally. None of them have Foster's upside.

Foster and his hammy.

A recurring love story.

He'll be out for a while, imo. You dont leave a game that suddenly for a minor issue... Fact is, it was a lingering issue and he ####ed it up.

you might be right.

on the flip side, the fact that he tweaked it at all, and had a bye coming up might have made the decision easy to shut him down for the game.

And If by chance he does, Tate will show him up ...

and get hurt twice as bad!

HOU is in NO position to shut anyone down unless they're badly injured.

Trust me, I love Foster... but his hammy is nothing new. anyone who thought the tweak this whole week was nothing, got slapped by reality on Sunday. 4-6 weeks is not out of the question when you're talking RB + Hammy - especially when it's Foster, who has gone thru this plenty

Well, just acquired him in a trade. I'd like to think he will be back after the bye and they were so quick to pull him because they figured Tate would be more than adequate in filling the role without risking further injury. The fact that Jackson was claimed out 4-6 and even exceeded that because of his hammy worries me, and Foster is no spring chicken himself. If he's back in 4 weeks I'll be happy.

Show me anywhere in Foster's career with Houston where he has missed 4 games.

On a side note, 3rd string RB Cierre Wood was one of three players just cut by the Texans. Sounds like the team believes they were involved in some kind of substance abuse.

I remember reading that there was suspicion that Wood was suspended for non-marijuana drug use at ND. I have a hard time believing the Texans would outright cut him for marijuana use.

What the hell does that matter?

He's missed multiple games (3 I believe) due to his hamstring in a season.

A pulled hammy carrying a 4-6 week return is not uncommon. I own Foster FFS, but Im shooting from the hip

Hm, Tate broke 4 ribs in action last Sunday. Even if he goes and even though broken ribs are all about pain management, I question how effective he would be (assuming Foster didn't go).

Looks like a pretty ####ty situation.

I didn't know Wood was released either. He flashed during preseason action and was hoping to grab him in a couple leagues.

Ben Tate told reporters Monday he suffered four fractured ribs in the Texans' Week 7 loss to Kansas City.

and Wood got caught during drugs in the hotel sometime during the weekend.

It matters because you claim 4-6 weeks out of action "especially when its Foster" when the guy has never even missed 2 games in a row ever. He missed 2 games in 2011, and was rested in week 17. He played every game in 2012. Everyone wants to act like the guy is in a walker.

Ok, quick summary:

Week 9 starter is _________?

Or not Foster or Tate, but Mr. X?

This is starting to look like the Giants.

I think both Foster and Tate are active week 9.

Ray Graham is on the practice squad. Deji Karim learned the offense in preseason, don't think he's on anyone's roster right now.

They could also try someone else on the street or on someone else's practice squad. No clue who they might consider outside of those two.

I expect Tate to be active but they'll try to keep him off the field if they can. Depends on how Foster's hammy holds up.

(Rotoworld)Speaking Monday, Texans coach Gary Kubiak called Arian Foster (hamstring) "day to day."

Analysis: This jibes with what Foster said following Sunday's loss, but not with the fact that he was ruled out so quickly against the Chiefs. Either way, the Texans aren't going to supply a substantial update during their bye week. For now, Foster should be considered 50-50 for Week 9.

Anyone taking a crack at trading for Foster?

I did a couple of days ago. I shipped off Mathews/Stacy/Harvin for him. Hope it doesn't come back to bite me.

I think we would have seen the texans bring someone in this week if they thought there was a chance foster was not going to play

Given that they have 4 empty roster spots right now, I expect they will bring in someone.

Even if they do you won't know if it's to fill in for Tate or Wood or both.

Have to hope Foster will be back after the bye - he he has two prime matchups with Jax on teh schedule.

Maybe more concerned about the effect of Keenum on his game though and we never really got to see that vs KC.

Anyone have a crazy 3-way trade that would work? I know the Browns would like Tate, and have Gordon to offer. Who would have the RB, and want a WR?

Ravens (Rice/Pierce), Eagles (Shady/Brown), Redskins (Morris/Helu), Patriots (Ridley/Vereen), 49ers (Gore/Hunter)? The Colts and Packers also have needs at WR.

I gave up Decker and Witten for Foster. I have Jordan Reed so felt I could give up Witten to get a much needed upgrade at RB. Hopefully he plays next week and I get some ROI

There seems to be two 'different' reports floating out there about Foster. One seems to indicate that he practiced fully on Thursday, without any limitation and looks on track to play on Sunday. The other states he practiced on a limited basis and is a game-time decision.

What kind of practice did Foster have yesterday and today - anyone have that info?

The initial report I saw from Tania Ganguli was that Foster completed all of his scheduled reps.

I'm guessing some people saw that and read it to mean, "Foster was a full participant". While maybe others see it and think the plan was to limit Foster, but he completed everything they had for him in that limited workout.

I haven't seen anything to clarify which take is most correct. If I had to guess I'd say the latter.

And as far as today's practice, Kubiak said in his noon presser that both practiced, Tate is ready to play Sunday, and Foster is a game time decision.

After last week would you play him even if they said he was a go?

I would. If he says he's a go, he's a go. I think this week could be one of those "Chuck Strong" moments for the Texans.
