Darren Sproles Thread (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

Darren Sproles left Sunday's Week 9 game against the Jets in the first quarter with an undisclosed injury.
On the opening drive of the game, Sproles caught a two-yard swing pass and got tangled up with a bunch of defenders. Trainers quickly looked at this left ankle and then he went to the locker room. Consider Sproles questionable to return.
Darren Sproles is being evaluated for a concussion.
On the very first possession of the game, Sproles caught a two-yard swing pass and got lit up by Jets safety Antonio Allen. He was quickly escorted to the locker room, leaving Pierre Thomas and Mark Ingram to carry the mail at running back. Sproles is officially questionable to return.

Rotoworld update:

Darren Sproles (concussion) is practicing in full Wednesday.
It's a surefire sign that the concussion Sproles sustained on the first drive of last week's loss to the Jets was not of the severe variety. He said he's fine and has gone through the NFL's protocols. Barring a setback, the PPR maven will suit up in a tasty matchup with the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

Bumping for updates. Sounds like good news so far. Now he just needs to, you know, score some fantasy points.

Yeah even though he'll play I don't know how confident I am. If he goes off I might try to trade him

This is the type of game sproles blows up in. Snf at home against a mediocre def. Coming off a loss. Start all your saints any way you can. They probably score over 40. Sproles scores at least once in a high scoring game

I'm getting real tired of trying to figure out which Saints hit or miss any given week. It's one thing to know that they'll score a bunch of points as a unit but unless you're solid elsewhere on your roster it's hard to gamble on which one scores those points any given week. You've got to have a steady core to play that game that they put your team over the top--and not have to rely on Saints backs or receivers to be the base. Unfortunately I don't always have that luxury this season, and I'm sitting them this week.

Good point. Still think sproles and thomas are good plays though. The wrs not so much. Graham and brees obviously

I'm having a hard time believing he'll be used much the week after a concussion. Players become less prone to concussions the longer removed they are between incidents. Not a smart move for his long term career to play him at all in this next game. At this point I'm starting Andre Ellington over Sproles despite most of the FBG's projections.

Listening to the audible last night, they brought up a good point about how weird it was that they said sproles passed all protocols and was cleared to play by Wednesday. That is way too fast, especially now with how the league is taking it more seriously.

Will not be surprised if his status does a 180 by Sunday morning

Disclaimer:There is no such thing as a "minor" head injury.

That being said, the hit that knocked Sproles out against the Jets did not look like a major hit at all. He got up without incident and walked off the field without incident. It was a huge surprise to hear he had a concussion (first reports were an ankle injury). Given that, his quick return doesn't appear to be all that surprising to me (and no, I'm not a doctor). It seems quite possible that on whatever levels there are of concussions his was one of the more milder ones.

It seemed to me they struggled with whether or not to put him back in the game last week. They took the cautious route. Pretty sure he has his normal role this week

Rotoworld:

Darren Sproles (concussion) was a full participant in Friday's practice and is probable for Week 10.

Sproles practiced every day this week without setbacks and has been cleared to return from his concussion. He'll be a low-end RB2 for Sunday night's matchup against the Cowboys.

Rotoworld:

Darren Sproles rushed three times for 16 yards in New Orleans' Week 11 win over the 49ers, adding four catches for 19 yards as he played through a left ankle injury.
Sproles tweaked his ankle early in the game, but missed only a few series. He didn't appear to have trouble cutting upon his return, though the fact that he managed only 35 yards on seven touches is a possible sign he was limited. Typically, Sproles' Week 12 status wouldn't be a concern after he played through the injury, but the Saints are playing in the Thursday night game. Sproles is going to be extremely sore on Monday, so it's possible his status won't be known until Wednesday or Thursday. He'll likely play, however.

I think it's safe to say that pierre thomas has taken over the most valuable saints rb spot

We are talking about the guy who had 27 fantasy points at half last week? He's inconsistent as are all saints RBs. That's all

Rotoworld:

Darren Sproles (ankle, knee) was limited in Monday's practice.
Sproles tweaked his ankle Sunday against the 49ers and appeared to be a bit limited by it the rest of the game. The Saints didn't actually practice Monday. They play the Falcons on Thursday night and were forced to release a practice report. Sproles will likely play, but check back Wednesday or Thursday.

Not saying he isn't useful but thomas has outscored him the past 4 weeks and he has been consistent. 9 points or better over the past 4 games in my .5 ppr including that monster game vs dallas where he had 25. Hes clearly the best bet right now out of the saints rbs

He hadn't done jack #### until that game...which of course was when I finally got fed up and benched him. He's bye week filler at best going forward.

I see this as half-right. He's not bye week filler -- if he's not injured, Sproles is a threat with certain use in flex, and low-end RB2 in PPR.

He is, to your point, very inconsistent though, and it's hard to rely on him for anything more than his flex utility. He's been nicked a lot this year, and Peyton has shown that he will go with gameplans that remove Sproles from the equation. If you are looking for an RB2, Thomas is a better bet to consistently fill that role than Sproles at this point.

Great matchup this Thursday night as a similar scat back Rainey lit up Atlanta for 3 TDs (2 in the ground and 1 in the air). And that was the TB offense. Monitor the injury report. But if Sproles is active he's in my lineup.

In PPR he has 5/10 games at double digits including a 33 vs Miami. I agree Thomas is a safer play, but I disagree that Sproles is a bust or a sell.

33 points vs Miami and was by far the best weapon on the field. half his games this season have been double digits in PPR which is the only format you should be depending on him at all. Very inconsistent but not a bust or a sell IMO.

Rotoworld:

Darren Sproles (ankle, knee) was held out of Tuesday's practice.

It's a mild concern after Sproles got in a limited session on Monday, but the Saints are likely just limiting his reps ahead of Thursday's game against the Falcons. He should be good to go after playing through the issues in Week 11. It's possible Sproles will end up a game-time decision. Getting out-produced by Pierre Thomas in the passing game of late, Sproles is a middling FLEX option in standard leagues.

Ultimately I think he will play but I am fearful the Saints will be over cautious with him on a short week against an inferior opponent. But, then I remember that he was used on the Saints last drive on Sunday to run.YES RUN the ball. So I am not sure how to feel. He is normally my third back behind McCoy and Bernard. Unfortunately they are both on bye. Need to make a decision to pick up Donald Brown or ogbonnaya to start over him. Probably rolling with Sproles unless he doesn't practice again tomorrow.

If you knew each opponents defensive game plan you would know which Saints player would blow up. The Saints take what the defense gives them, sometimes they force it in situations that the defense is not giving them but its not that often. If you knew before hand for example how the Pats were going to game plan Jimmy Graham then you would likely have benched him for better options. Fortunately New Orleans and Atlanta have a long history of facing each other so you might start there and see how each player did against the Falcons especially this year. I would assume the Saints to also try to continue certain trends in their game that they have been harping on against recent opponents. PT will have a big game , not sure about Sproles but thats only because of the uncertainty with his health. its more difficult to gauge WR success with exception that I see Colston getting a lot of defensive attention in this game so maybe Moore or Stills blow up. Graham will have a big game for sure.

Even with the tasty matchup there is no way I am going to start Sproles on a short week and missing practice this week.

I have been dead wrong on Sproles the last 4 weeks (start and he sucks, bench and he goes off) so everyone else might want to start him. He is frustrating the crap out of me.

I think given the fact he is not practicing on a short week, your best bet is to bench him. I am sitting him and starting Thomas (thankfully both rostered), however I think Ingram value also increases. Thomas takes pass catching and safety dump offs, while Ingram grinds out the ground game. Oddly enough I also think this adds bvalue to Lance Moore - but Sproles...stay away this week.

No practice for sproles again. This should give Thomas even more action tomorrow correct?
Rotoworld take:

Darren Sproles (ankle, knee) was a non-participant in Wednesday's practice and is listed as questionable for Week 12 against the Falcons.

Sproles hasn't practiced the last two days after being limited on Monday and will be a game-time decision. Even if he manages to play, he'll be a middling RB3/FLEX option. Sproles has just 125 total yards and one touchdown over his last three games.

I know I am grasping at straws,here - BUT.....

any chance this makes Ingram a flex play tonight? If Sproles is out, could he see 8-10 carries and outside shot of td?

If Sproles is out, Ingram def is flex worthy. ATL is putrid vs the run. He can def get 60+ and a score. heck he could be flex worthy with an active Sproles.

Ingram def gets a bump but hard to trust imo due to his spotty history. Really think Thomas will have the big game tonight

I agree about Thomas. I'm going up against a guy this week who has him as his RB1. Looking at this matchup a couple weeks ago I was pumped, not so much now.
