Looking forward to it, good luck everyone. Hope for some good draft discussion even though we are 7 months out from next season. The wait will be excruciating so this should help until then.

I think we need one thread for each. If we had mfl to supplement picks would be different but picks will get lost in the thread if there's a lot of conversation.

Ugh. I do not like the 4-slot this year. At all. After the top 3 RB's there isn't really anyone I feel ought to be a lock for the 1.04 pick.

I'll probably regret not going RB, but there's no way a slam-dunk top-3 TE makes it back to me at 2.13, so ...

1.04 - Jimmy Graham, TE NOS
I would have a hard time taking Graham at the fourth pick. To much uncertainty for me.

Not me in a 2 PPR for TE. Huge advantage with Graham and bust likelihood extremely low. It's Graham, Thomas ( so long as Manning doesn't retire), Gronk (when healthy) and everybody else. There are 5+ WRs who have caught up to Calvin and the next few RBs while solid come with their own ?.

I'm not worried about the uncertainty. I think the odds are about 95% he stays with the Saints, and we all know how he'll be used there. If he does go for somewhere else, it'll be for jaw-dropping megabucks, and after throwing that kind of $$$ at a weapon like Graham no GM worth his salt is going to lose him in the shuffle. Plus, picking early in a 16-teamer, I'm more worried about the floor than the ceiling, and no one left at any position has a floor like #80.

My big concern with taking him at 1.04 is how much it's going to skew my strategy for the next few rounds. I'd much rather have picked out of the 7- or 8-slot with this strategy and given myself a better shot at a decent RB on the next go-around. Now I'm basically reduced to crossing my fingers and hoping.

And here's the first potentially controversial pick. Certainly not expecting 55+ TDs again and obviously tons of risk here if he were to retire but he's a huge difference maker at the position. I don't foresee a drop below 45 TDs even if decker leaves and 5k yards is highly likely. I know QB is deep but I think it's more like there's 2-3 at top and then 4-16 is a crapshoot/little separation. If this were 4 per pass TD and 1/25 passing no way I even think about this. Last year in this same slot I got McCoy, took RG3 in rd 4 and rode Alex smith late and won WSL1 so this is a huge departure for me. Will definitely put me in huge hole elsewhere but then again there is so much churn /injuries in top 10 RBs I feel like I can find a way to cobble something together.

I considered Marshawn but you know what he is, little upside and doesn't have huge separation from myriad of other players here. I really wanted Forte.

IMO just to many red flags to make him a first round pick. 1st, he is a free agent come March, if not locked up before then. I don't follow the Saints closely but have to wonder why he hasn't been yet? 2nd, if he leaves the Saints will he have the same production with a different QB? Third, if the Saints don't sign him and try to franchise him, his agent is forced to attempt to have him tagged and consequently reclassified as a wide receiver not a tight end (4mil franchise tag difference) Looks to me as there his a very good chance this will happen. And then you have 1pt per reception as opposed to 2, and the first WR taken in our draft.

Again I don't follow the Saints close enough, and have no reason to look into it deeply at this point in the 2014 season.

:stirspot:

I was eyeing Manning but worried he may not come back because of retirement or any reason, glad he was taken at pick 7 to make my decision easier. Brees is still as automatic and drafting this early for a new season I wanted a safe elite player with minimal risk.

I'll have to admit that this possibility never occurred to me. If MFL reclasses him as a WR then, yeah, this will wind up being a round or 2 too early for him (not to mention leaving me sucking hind ### at the TE position - then again I came 4th in PDSL last year with Dennis Pitta and Heath Miller, so you never know).

But in the end I think a lot of this back-and-forth is mainly posturing, and there's a very small chance Graham goes anywhere else or winds up with a significantly different role in the offense / stat base than he's put up the past 2 years. I'm still not enamored of him at 1.04 but he's the best of a series of not-great options there IMO.

love the different flavor of the 1st round this go around. Its like the snow globe has been shaken.
:goodposting:

After watching everyone go RB-crazy in last year's PDSL and SSL, I never would have expected at least 2 of every skill position to go off the board in the first 15 picks, but I love it. Next 19 rounds ought to be a blast.

Who knows but at 1.15 there aren't a whole lot of players left that you can win you immunity in any given week by themselves. If he plays 10-12 out of 16 then he is still worth a late 1st rounder in my eyes.

If the pick sends me home early because he misses time at the beginning of the season then so be it. For me there's no reason to play for anything but first place in these things and I think Gronk is the kind of guy you need to build your team around if you want to win these things.

I only considered one other player here and I would be way more sad if I lost out on Gronk than I will be if I miss on the other guy.

Are we really going to have a timeout in Round 1? How does that work? Seems odd someone would sign up and are no where to be found.

Hoping sigmund is on making picks at 10:02. This is silly. Overall everyone doing well keeping things moving.

Am I waiting or do I get to pick again?
Since its late on the east coast, I would wait until someone replaces him. No real rush yet, but I do think he needs to be replaced even if he does make picks. Its better to get good drafters in something like this. Its up to you but it seems the guy running it is on top of things, I would wait until he gets in touch with Bloom.

was debating Julio Jones v Demarco Murray

The RB position is in such a state of flux.

I wanted Aaron Rodgers, but figured after him the QBs are just about the same.

Bell, Stacy, Martin. Murray, these RBs can all go in any order.

2.05 Julio Jones

After Megatron you could make a case for any of five guys to be the 2nd WR off the board, so getting the fifth of them at this spot is a steal.
Was hoping he or Marshall would slide to me, but ended up with Reggie. I notice some people consistently under rate his production in PPR, he was 8th in my league this year. I think he could get around Top 10 production again this coming year so I have to go with the safe pick regardless of injury risk.

Another risky pick with Foster but if he comes back healthyish and a fire in his belly as a proud new papa, he'll be inline for a solid workload and probably no Ben Tate.

Why do people continuously load up on RBs? This is not the same game of fantasy football from a few years back. It is a passing league. Plus they seem to get hurt more than anyone.

1.14 Dez Bryant WR DAL

2.03 Doug Martin RB TB

I like the start so far. I think Dez Bryant can get even better and will put up very nice numbers this next season. I had four players I was looking at with my 2.03 pick. Aaron Rodgers, Doug Martin, Julio Jones, and DeMarco Murray. Rodgers went 1 pick before me so it was down to the other 3. Since I already landed a WR in the 1st round I decided to go with a RB in the 2nd round even though Julio Jones was hard to pass on. In the end I went with Doug Martin. I think the Buccaneers will be a run first team and even though I can see some of the Buccaneers backup RB's getting some carries Martin still should see his fare share of carries. In his rookie year Martin had 45 receptions for 454 yards. If he can come anywhere close to that this next season he will have been well worth the 2nd round pick. Now for the long wait until my 3rd round pick.

Yeah, very happy with him here. Probably could've drafted him at 1.12 and no one would have blinked.

We need to start 2 each week. There are no transactions. The 60th WR taken will get on the field quite a bit - not so much for RB60. Traditionally, I'll only roster 3-4 RBs and 7+WRs in these formats. Need to make the 3 count as much as possible.

That 2nd part plus rarity are big parts of it.

It is a passing league and therefore true 3 down RB's are more valuable than they used to be. Also, I find it easier to hit on late WR sleepers & piece together decent WR2 & WR3 by committee in best ball format. So many WR's will end up putting up 100-200 points (about 40-45 this year) in this format vs. RB (about 25 or so) it is ridiculous.

at some point VBD kicks in....you have to start 2 no matter what....this is survivor, if you are getting goose eggs at RB it won't matter how sweet the rest of your team looks....

FWIW, while I understand your philosophy there's no chance in hell I'm passing on Julio at that spot. None. I'd take my lumps at RB if it meant having two guys who could possibly finish WR1 and WR2 for the season on my roster.

But hey, that's what makes these things great!

I'm not to worried about it. I knew what I was passing up on. I wanted to see where this start takes me.

Agreed. I like the move. Martin is a steal even if his performance is just 90% of his rookie year.
