WR Brandin Cooks, DAL (1 Viewer)

Anarchy is right on this. Why does he bounce around so much?
I can't find the link to the article I read on this, it's floating around either on this thread or the Rams thread, but this topic is overblown at least from a contractual perspective according to the article. It was situational. I looked up his contract details to piece together what I remember from the article.

Saints had him on his rookie contract through 2017 and in 2016 MT blew up as a rookie himself and Saints didn't have a need to resign Cooks to a big contract. They would have had to with his production. Instead Saints ended up with 1.1M dead money dealing him to Pats and the Pats got him for peanuts for a year. Salary for 2017 season was around 750K for the Pats. Pats also didn't want to sign him to a big contract, which he clearly deserved after the 1000 yard seasons with Saints and Pats. I don't think the Pats ever do this. So he technically had one contract before Rams committed to him.

In the context of is he good enough to be a clear WR1 for a team, I think yes by a mile, but Saints said not for us (because of MT I assume) and Pats said we don't care.

Great response. That answers a lot. And he's getting paid now...

Brandin Cooks caught 8-of-12 targets for 112 yards in Week 3 against the Browns.

Cooks didn't have any splash plays and had a bad drop, but he ended up leading the Rams in receiving. The 12 targets were good to see after Cooks had just 10 through the first two weeks. Cooks carries more volatility than he did when Cooper Kupp went down last year, but he's in another great spot against the Bucs in Week 4.

Brandin Cooks was forced from the Rams' Week 5 game against the Seahawks with a potential concussion.

Hand fighting with Shaquill Griffin early in the fourth quarter, Cooks made a spectacular catch but took the worst of it as Griffin came down on him with all his body weight. Cooks appeared dazed as he was tended to by the training staff. He then headed to the locker room at a slow pace. Cooks has suffered two documented concussions as a pro. He had two touches for 56 yards before departing.

Brandin Cooks has been placed in the concussion protocol.

This doesn't come as a surprise after Cooks didn't return in Week 5. Cooks has a few extra days with the Rams playing on Thursday night, but this puts his Week 6 status in question. Josh Reynolds would see an expanded role if Cooks can't get cleared.

Any new news on him? Can't find anything online. Hoping someone in LA listens to sports radio and has some type of news
@RealReactions

Brandin Cooks (concussion) was limited in practice Wednesday.

Cooks suffered a concussion last Thursday against the Seahawks, and he's still in the protocol on Wednesday. He's best viewed as questionable going into Week 6 against the 49ers. Josh Reynolds would draw the start if Cooks can't get cleared.

Brandin Cooks caught 4-of-7 targets for 59 yards in the Rams' Week 7 win over the Falcons.

Even with the pathetic Falcons missing Desmond Trufant, big plays were nowhere to be found for Cooks and Jared Goff. That's partly because Goff kept overthrowing people, especially in the first half. A colossal disappointment thus far this season, Cooks has found the end zone only once and is on pace for a modest 918 yards. He has another get-right matchup for Week 8 vs. the Bengals' Dre Kirkpatrick/William Jackson-less secondary. Then the Rams head on bye.

Oct 20, 2019, 5:48 PM ET

Brandin Cooks exited Week 8 against the Bengals to be evaluated for a concussion.

Cooks took a helmet-to-helmet shot from the safety on his first target of the game on the Rams' opening drive. Concussion have been a major issue for Cooks in recent years. We'd be surprised if he returned Sunday. L.A. has its bye next week.

Oct 27, 2019, 1:20 PM ET

Brandin Cooks is visiting a concussion specialist in Pittsburgh.

The Rams are concerned with Cooks' concussion history. Coach Sean McVay said, "It will be something that we are going to be smart with. I think being able to get some answers, hear some other opinions on what’s going on, and other cases that have been like this will give us some clarity to hopefully, make the best decision for Brandin Cooks the person and the football player." Cooks has a bye week to get some answers, but he's definitely questionable for Week 10 and beyond with NFL players now more likely than ever to miss multiple weeks with concussion symptoms.

Unfortunate, but he should really think about hanging them up at this point. IIRC he has had 4 in the last two years.
I gambled and locked him up for a few years at a good price, but even with that said I just want the guy to get right with his life.  If that means hanging up the cleats then so be it.

Reynolds is probably a must add if he isn't already stashed.  At least if you think the Rams can get it going.  Goff can't handle pressure at all.

Not sure how relevant this is but maybe he shouldn't be playing in this offense. A study was done in 2015 that shows pretty clearly that offensive players in the West Coast offense have a significantly higher rate of concussions than other offenses. Cooks plays in a West Coast offense and has had 4 concussions in 2 years.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Brandin Cooks had a "positive" visit with a concussion specialist during the Rams' bye week.

Rapoport added that Cooks' latest head injury, the fifth documented concussion of his NFL career, is not expected to require a "long-term recovery." With that in mind, the Rams plan to be cautious with Cooks, who is battling his second concussion of 2019. If Cooks misses time, Josh Reynolds would slide into three-wide sets alongside Robert Woods and slot receiver Cooper Kupp.

Coach Sean McVay said the Rams "don't know" when Brandin Cooks (concussion) will be able to play again.

Cooks has a concerning history of concussions, especially in recent seasons. He met with a specialist during the bye week and received positive reports, but Cooks will continue to meet with others and seek various opinions. It would be a surprise if Cooks plays Week 10 against the Steelers. Josh Reynolds will slide into his spot.

How does one receive positive news after suffering two documented concussions in a month? The guy now has 5 career concussions and two of them were brutal. He’s now moved into Jordan Reed territory. I hope he’s smart about this and thinks about the long term implications of continuing to play. We should not see him back on the field for at least a few weeks, but something tells me we will see him again week 11.

I mean, he's seeing a concussion specialist. Seems like that's a clear sign he's being smart about it

Hopefully he follows the Dr's advice, whatever it is.

I've seen Cooks dropped in redraft. I get that, but I'm not selling low in Dynasty. He may end up like Jordan Reed, but he may also follow the Davante Adams recovery path. What is the best you will get for him right now, a mid 2nd? I'll risk losing that in hopes that his value recovers like Adams' did after the concussion scares in 2017.

In an Instagram post, Brandin Cooks (concussion) said he "can't wait to get back on the field this season."

While the receiver won't suit up against the Steelers on Sunday, it sounds like Cooks received encouraging news from his visit with a concussion specialist earlier this week. "Whether some like it or not I’m far from that end destination when it comes to this game," wrote Cooks, who was concussed for the second time this season in a Week 8 win over Cincinnati. "I’m thankful that this soon will be something in the past." It would be understandable for Cooks to question his NFL future in the wake of his fifth reported concussion, though obviously the sixth-year receiver still feels he has plenty of good football ahead of him.

I'm just as concerned that he's a clear 3rd in the pecking order behind Kupp and Woods.  Not dropping, but he's a WR3 at best for the team I have him on

I don't know about behind Woods... They have both been brutal as Kupp takes everything.

"Whether some like it or not I’m far from that end destination when it comes to this game," wrote Cooks
Hopefully one of those people that don't like it isn't the Dr. he's been seeing!

Brandin Cooks (concussion) was cleared to practice on a limited basis.

Cooks is out this week after his second concussion of the season. There was concern over how many games he'll miss, but this is obviously a good sign. Barring setbacks, this puts Cooks on track to return in Week 11.

With 2 concussions already this year, I really can’t see this guy playing in week 11.
Despite being cleared for limited practice, should he return in week 11 and get hurt, it would look bad for the Rams and the league. The dude has had 5 documented concussions, so I’m not sure how they would even contemplate letting him suit up anytime soon.

Brandin Cooks (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 11 against the Bears.

The Rams and Bears face off on NBC's Sunday Night Football next week. Being ruled out this early is a bad sign for Cooks' Week 12 availability as well, as he tries to return from another concussion. Cooks has been cleared for limited no-contact practices but is a ways away from gameday clearance. Josh Reynolds will continue to be an every-down wideout in Cooks' absence.

Rotoworld:

Coach Sean McVay expects Brandin Cooks (concussion) to return for Week 12 against the Ravens.

Cooks has missed the last two games but was running routes ahead of the Sunday night Week 11 win over the Bears. As long as he makes it through this week setback-free, Cooks should be back out there next Monday night. However, the matchup coupled with Cooks' poor year and Jared Goff's steps back as a passer make him a tough sell as a WR3 against a stout pass defense. Josh Reynolds will head back to WR4 duties for the Rams, assuming Robert Woods (personal) is also back.

Brandin Cooks has cleared the league's concussion protocol.

He'll be on hand when the Rams host Baltimore in Week 12. Cooks has a troubling history of brain injuries—this was his fifth reported concussion and second of 2019—but after meeting with Pittsburgh-based concussion specialist Dr. Michael Collins, the Rams' deep threat felt comfortable in returning to the field. With Robert Woods also due back after missing last week's game to address an undisclosed personal matter, L.A.'s receiving corps should be approaching full strength Monday night. Cooks and company face a challenging matchup against a stacked Ravens secondary led by former Ram Marcus Peters.

Brandin Cooks caught 2-of-4 targets for 32 yards in the Rams' Week 12 loss to the Ravens.

Back from a multi-week concussion, Cooks made a spectacular sideline grab on one of his two catches, but that was really it for him. Cooks has one 100-yard game to his name this season and no touchdowns since Week 2. He's behind both Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods in the pecking order with Jared Goff playing some of the worst football ever. Cooks has become a mere WR4 and will draw Patrick Peterson in Week 13.

Time to stick a fork in him. I know he has had the concussion issues but he was thrown to last game a little.

Goff has thrown the ball 31 times in the 1st half today and not 1 to Cook.

And he’s in there almost every play.

Brandin Cooks caught both of his targets for 24 yards in the Rams' Week 13 win over the Cardinals.

This was a troubling game for Cooks. as he was the only Rams player to not get going --Jared Goff had 424 yards on a whopping 43 pass attempts. Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp are seeing a lot more volume than Cooks, who is simply getting his exercise in while running deeper routes with a quarterback that isn't throwing deep passes. Cooks is a boom-or-bust flex play against the Seahawks in Week 14.

Brandin Cooks was held without a catch in Week 14 against Seattle.

Cooks was invisible, failing to catch either of his two targets. His role has taken a major hit since returning from his concussion, posting just four catches for 56 scoreless yards over the last three games. Cooks should eventually get more involved, but he can’t be trusted in the fantasy semifinals.

Cooks is the ultimate example of a black hole on your roster. If most owners are like me, you NEVER start him, yet you don't want to cut him, and you can't get anything of value in trade. Wasted roster space....

I have to start him this week in my 'waivers locked for the playoffs' short bench league due to the Ridley injury.

3 catches for 40 yards.  That's all I want.  I'm not greedy.

Dead for fantasy. Was always a bit overrated based on end of year stats, but this year has been a disaster. I'd say he's a must sell in dynasty but I don't think you could get much of value from here on.

4/46 works for this week, hopefully portends for better next week.

Did Twitter search on Brandin Cooks, and the posts were not kind

If he even plays.  He got positively lit up in the ribs on a meaningless 2 point conversion with a minute left down by about eight scores.  Wouldn’t surprise me if he was out next week.

Brandin Cooks caught 4-of-6 targets for 39 yards and one touchdown in the Rams' Week 16 loss to the 49ers.

Cooks has been completely unheard of for most of the season, partially due to a scary stretch of injuries in the middle of the season. Tonight, by default, was one of his better games, as he scored his second touchdown of the season on a 10-yard strike from Jared Goff. Cooks still was a distant third or fourth target, however, with Robert Woods and Tyler Higbee dominating looks. Consider Cooks a touchdown-dependent WR4 against the burnable Cardinals in Week 17. He'll be looking for his 40th reception of the year then.
