RB Samaje Perine, DEN - Plays Better West of the Mississippi! (3 Viewers)

While true....one of them will be a volune play this season....
No, they won't.  You guys should really listen to me on this one.  It's gonna be a hodgepodge of unpredictability, vulturing, and outsourcing of passing game targets.

Normally I would recommend Thompson, but he's claiming this last injury won't be right until November.

Just steer clear of this backfield.

Are we picking through the trash already? It’s not even September.... fade these guys in redraft, take Thompson and wait for the FA signing. Hope for Darkwa.
Darkwa, Charles and AD in this week. All three would be rosterable, IMO. It’s clear even without Perine’s injury he is not trusted. Kelley is not good and Thompson weighs 190lbs. In any case, I’ve seen this enough. It wasn’t questionable advice, it was seeing the forest through the trees. I think they wanted Marshall to succeed and now he’s hurt and Perine’s hurt.

I don’t think anyone is arguing that it’s a messed up situation. But when you are looking for late round fliers, these guys fit the bill pretty nicely and one of them could be fantasy relevant. It’s either that or draft a second kicker. I’ll take the flier on the RB.

So do you see Todd Gurley when you watch Perine?
No of course not.  I'm just saying that Gurley's 2016 numbers looked somewhat similar to the two WAS backs, and we saw what happened last year with Gur;ey.  Obviously Perine doesn't have Gurley's upside, I was merely saying that these advanced stats numbers are not always the best predictor of future success.

Rob Kelley on IR (eligible to return), if Adrian Peterson has a few more duds you could see Perine get a shot at the job again.

I know you hate Peterson, but Perine isn't happening.
Agreed. Perine only gets his shot if Peterson gets hurt. However with Peterson's age an injury is very much in play. Even then you still have to worry about Chris Thompson. Perine's value at the end of 2017 was primarily volume based with both Kelley & Thompson out.

I know you hate Peterson, but Perine isn't happening.
*facepalm* Stop it. Seriously. There is way too much "present logical conclusion must mean HUUUUURRRRRRR YOU OWN/DON'T OWN X PLAYER" crap on this board.

I don't think he said that. Said you hated Peterson. Big difference between that and owning X player. Whether this is true, I can't tell. You both seem kind of caustic, but cool. So who knows? Is your feeling about Peterson coloring your opinion about the RB situation with Kelley and Perine in Washington? Only you can answer that.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden praised Samaje Perine's offseason on Thursday.

Gruden said Perine has been the team's "most impressive" back this spring. The coach has apparently talked Perine up to reporters a number of times. Unfortunately for Perine, the Redskins' running back depth chart is already set with Adrian Peterson, Derrius Guice and Chris Thompson. Perhaps the Redskins are trying to drum up some trade interest, but it is not going to be there with a former fourth-rounder who was frequently a healthy scratch in 2018.

Samaje Perine rushed 10 times for 32 yards in the Bengals' Week 14 loss to the Cowboys, adding two receptions for nine yards.

Perine and Trayveon Williams split the Bengals backfield against Dallas after Gio Bernard was benched for an early fumble. Williams led the backfield with 10 carries but it looks like Perine could stay involved if the team uses the last few weeks of another lost season to evaluate Perine and Williams. He profiles as an OK waiver add for fantasy managers scavenging for playable running backs in Week 15.

Samaje Perine rushed 13 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns and caught four passes for 41 yards in the Bengals' Week 16 win over the Texans.

The Bengals rode Perine's hot hand in this one, giving him just three fewer carries than Gio Bernard. Perine broke multiple tackles and scored from 46 yards out on one of his TDs, the longest run of career. He has double-digit touches in two of the last three games as the early-down complement to Bernard. Perine's snaps are up, but he has a much tougher Week 17 matchup against the Ravens.

Took a flyer and grabbed him in my dynasty league. Any future value here, or just fool's gold with a fluke week?

I was just thinking its funny how he and Mixon have ended up on the same team again.

You likely are not going to be using Perine at any point next year but stranger things have happened. Depending on how many roster spots you have, I can see him worth having just to see what happens.

I think he missed his shot to be a starter though. Career back up who a team will always be looking to replace is how I see Perine now.

No, I mean I doubt it. He's still got a slowness to him that looks like he won't cut it in the NFL. I love the human bowling ball since college but even when he did well it was like a bitter truth for me, as his fan. Watching is proof for me and it just bugs me.

I'd try Donta Foreman in this end of the roster style of pickup. He's Henry's true backup.

I like Cincy WRs for this because they're loaded w talent and have too many; one will do well elsewhere.

Donald Parham is a giant TE.

The Vikes and Falcons had a couple WRs step up at times.

I just think there's better guys to take a flyer on

Yeah if the option were Perine or Foreman I would prefer Foreman.

Bri makes a good point about there likely being other better flyers to roster. Hes probably not in the top 200 players.

Samaje Perine rushed nine times for 51 yards in the Bengals' Week 17 loss to the Ravens.

Perine led the Bengals in rushing attempts and likely would have seen a heftier workload if the team had been in position to run the ball in the second half. In 12 games this season, Perine gained 301 yards on 54 carries for a team high 4.6 yards per rush. Perine will most likely serve as running back depth of the Bengals (or another team) in 2021.

His stat line the last 2 weeks is not crap, though. Does Gio stay with the Bengals?

The Athletic's Jay Morrison reports "there still will be spots" where the Bengals use RB Samaje Perine in 2021.

Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan has been adamant that Joe Mixon will stay on the field as much as possible this season after the departure of pass-catching specialist Gio Bernard. Callahan, Morrison reports, could use Perine to spell Mixon so the oft-injured running back can get through the grueling 17-game season. Operating as the team's primary ball carrier for the final two weeks of 2020, Perine, 25, averaged 6.6 yards per carry. In a competitive Week 16 game against Houston, Perine had 136 yards on 17 touches. "Perine has not only shown explosion and efficiency, but he did it behind a sketchy offensive line that should be a little better — possibly a lot better — in 2021," Morrison said. He's clearly RB insurance for Mixon drafters, and a sensible late-round target for Zero RB drafters.

One of the cheapest handcuffs who has the one of the biggest chances of seeing the field this year. Love scooping guys like this up for free and reaping the benefits - year in, year out.

6th round. I don't know. I guess you never know but 6th round is a hard pill to swallow.
Yeah. No production and older in age, but testing through the roof. We shall see. He went undrafted in our league for rookies and I grabbed him at auction with about 1.33% of budget. Little over a dollar if we imagine a baseline of 100 per team. Worth a look.

Samaje Perine rushed five times for 22 yards in the Bengals' Week 1 win over the Vikings.

Perine was out-touched 6-33 by Joe Mixon but he was also the only Cincinnati backup to see any work. He holds no value on his own but the Bengals obviously view him as the direct understudy to Mixon. Should anything happen to Mixon, Perine would become a popular waiver wire addition.

SAMAJE PERINE RB, CINCINNATI BENGALS

Bengals OC Brian Callahan said the team will likely use a "committee approach" if Joe Mixon (ankle) is ruled out.

That committee includes both Samaje Perine and Chris Evans, the latter being the better pass-catching runner to deploy on third downs. Perine has out-touched Evans 12-3 on the year and run 21 routes to the rookie’s nine but should not be considered a one-for-one replacement for Mixon since both are expected to play. Perine should still be valued more as a low-end RB2/3.

Samaje Perine rushed 11 times for 59 yards, catching 4-of-5 targets for 24 yards and a receiving score in Cincinnati's Week 5 loss to Green Bay.

Perine opened Cincinnati's first drive behind Joe Mixon (ankle) but ultimately out-snapped the latter 41-19, handling one more carry (11-10) and four more touches (15-11) than his teammate. Mixon did record a 10-yard sprint and eight-yard rushing score in the second half but Perine's five targets (to Mixon's one) lent him a higher floor than initially perceived. Mixon's participation in practice this week will be worth monitoring since Perine was used just enough to warrant RB3 status if involved in a timeshare in Week 6 against the Lions.

EDIT:

Bengals placed RB Samaje Perine on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

It's a potentially significant development for Joe Mixon, who's battling through an ankle injury that limited him in Week 5 against Green Bay. Perine served as the team's primary pass-catching back against the Packers, catching four of five targets for 24 yards and seeing 11 carries for 59 yards. Unless Mixon makes strides in his recovery this week, Chris Evans could see a notable role in the Cincy backfield. Evans is worth adding in 12-team leagues in case Perine is sidelined in Week 6 against the Lions.

Samaje Perine caught 3-of-4 targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' AFC Championship Game victory over the Chiefs.

Perine housed a second quarter screen for the Bengals' first touchdown in their eventual comeback from a 21-3 deficit. He still got out-touched 24-3 by Joe Mixon. Perine figures to draw a couple 2-3 targets in Super Bowl LVI, but he won't be anything like an "X-factor."

Samaje Perine rushed two times for zero yards in the Bengals' Super Bowl LVI loss to the Rams.

Drafted as an early-down banger by the “Commanders” in 2017 — albeit one with underrated receiving chops — Perine surprisingly emerged as the Bengals’ occasional third-down back. Perine’s 27 receptions were his most since his rookie year in Washington. It was not enough to provide standalone PPR value, though it was a nuisance for Joe Mixon managers. Signed cheaply for 2022, Perine will probably be back on the 53-man roster, but the Bengals would be advised to try to upgrade behind Mixon. Heading into his age-27 campaign, Perine possesses zero 2022 upside.

Samaje Perine rushed nine times for 47 yards in the Bengals' Week 3 win over the Jets, adding two catches for 14 additional yards and a touchdown.

Perine wasn't much of factor early in the game outside of a 12-yard touchdown catch, but it showed that he's clearly the man behind Joe Mixon. This was even further evidenced by the fact that he finished the game after Mixon left with an injury late in the third quarter. Perine could end up being an important waiver wire pickup should Mixon miss any time.

Samaje Perine rushed two times for five yards in Cincinnati's Week 6 win over the Saints, adding two catches for 11 yards on two targets.

He played through an abdomen listing on the injury report. Perine isn't being used often enough behind Joe Mixon to be fantasy-relevant at this time. He's a fine backup to roster, but shouldn't be started in Week 7 against the Falcons.

- NBCSportsEDGE

Samaje Perine had 11 rushes for 30 yards in the Bengals' Week 11 win against the Steelers, adding four receptions for 52 yards and three touchdowns.

Perine functioned as the Bengals' top back after Joe Mixon left the game with a concussion in the third quarter, and accounted for three of Joe Burrow's four touchdown passes on the day. Perine has long been a solid pass catcher out of the backfield, though Mixon has taken most of the pas-catching action in 2022. Perine would be an RB2 option in Week 12 if Mixon can't clear the NFL's concussion protocol. He should be picked up in all 12-team leagues.

Tough start against that Titan run D. Really hasn't been a RB that has found great FF success against them since week 1 (Saquan). Rolling with him in hopes that he can snag another TD pass, but really disappointed with the matchup on the week he finally gets the backfield to himself.

Samaje Perine had 21 rushes for 106 yards in the Bengals' Week 13 win against the Chiefs, adding six receptions for 49 yards.

With incalculable levels of dawg in him, Perine ran tough against the Chiefs, shedding tacklers on rushes and receptions and bringing an edge to the Bengals offense. Perine has performed admirably in place of Joe Mixon (concussion) over the past two weeks, perhaps carving out a role in the Bengals offense when Mixon returns from his brain injury. For as long as Mixon is sidelined, Perine is a borderline RB1 in a high-powered offense.
