Also, let's stop with Mariota. Talk radio is out of control.

@SheilKapadia: Per report, Chip wanted to take Jordan Matthews in the 1st round of last year's draft. Roseman convinced him to wait: http://t.co/2pj06xwQgh

@smartfootball: @sheilkapadia Chip as GM is an extreme unknown, but will be interesting to see how he changes overall scouting department. Tough part will

@smartfootball: @sheilkapadia be maneuvering and getting draft value, but at end of the day better to be early than wrong, i.e. http://t.co/5XDmJPaqPC

@SheilKapadia: @smartfootball Yup, better example is Chip saying he'd have taken T. Hart in 3rd. Was convinced to wait until 5th. Just wonder, with...

@smartfootball: @billbarnwell @SheilKapadia I can see a Pete Carroll situation working where Carroll's the decider but also a real GM who has a voice.

@smartfootball: @billbarnwell @SheilKapadia but Pete had been a HC in the NFL before, had been around to see a lot of different things, had long run at USC

@SheilKapadia: @smartfootball @billbarnwell Finding that Schneider who knows what he's doing and has Chip's ear is the key. A lot riding on this hire.

Interesting convo

@SheilKapadia: Per @mortreport, Kelly would not have fought to save Gamble, but "strongly disapproved" of manner and timing in which Roseman dismissed him.

I hope Chip handles the increased power better than Reid and Rhodes did. Takes a special individual in the NFL to pull off both roles.

Gonna be quite the interesting offseason that's for sure.

Always is. Hasn't a 'drama free affair' in far too long IMO.

36 hours after he talked Gamble up?

Something happened during the end of season evaluations. Gamble wouldn't have been escorted from the building unless there was some serious anger and disagreements. He was literally thrown out of the building by security. At least that's how its been reported.

Yeah, but others have brought up Carroll and he's been successful. And in some ways, maybe being a college coach might prepare you for this since they are in charge of both coaching and personnel there. Obviously, many college coaches have failed miserably doing both but we'll see. The other thing is that Roseman might not be a bad personnel guy (I think he has gotten much better), but now he was expected to do personnel for completely different schemes. Chip does things differently and obviously has a plan so it really wouldn't be fair to either guy to leave it status quo.

Take Boykin for example, a very good pick by the Eagles (Roseman presumably) but someone who doesn't fit Kelly's scheme of long and tall CBs so wasn't given a shot outside.

Exactly.

Let's say we enter a world where TB is willing to trade the #1 pick. What's to stop chip from trading 6 first rounders, Cox and Kendricks for Mariota?

That part doesnt concern me as much as him just being way off on a guy's value. I understand and get "if your player is there you pick him" but you can't be rounds off IMO. Love the picks or not but Howie got extra guys before the players Chip actually wanted. That's a pretty big deal IMO.

Wow, that flag pick up was insane. No way dallas deserved that. I know we're focused on next season, but the boys losing is all I've got left this year.

The more I think about this the more I don't like it. I'll onvioisly give Chip a shot but this could be the beginning of the end for him. He HAS to get a legit NFL GM. One he respects and listens to.

Agreed. I'm hoping he will. This obviously can go two ways.

A: Chip think's he can handle this no problem and doesn't find a capable GM.

B: Chip realizes there's a lot of risk in this move, and is smart and seeks help.

Let's all hope that Chip is a B type guy. But if he does go down option A, at least we won't drag out that he could be the coach for us and he won't be around much longer if we don't see success. Big test Lurie is giving Chip, I like it.

A lot of risk but I guess it makes sense....his 1st 2 years were strong so give him more control now as its not something you do right off the bat and risk him being Spurrier.

The worst outcome for us would be holding onto Chip for too many 10-6 non superbowl seasons. It could be argued we did that with Andy for too long, and this move shows that Lurie isn't going to let that happen again.

Either Chip is a genius and takes us there, or he fails (to either draft well, or get proper gm help) and we cut him loose and find the guy who will.

For sure.....we are kind of at an awkward stage as after the long run with McNabb/Dawk/Douglas/Trotter etc we were due for some serious rebuilding and hard years I thought. We somewhat sidestepped that it seems with the Vick years being decent but haven't really had that run of high draft picks restocking our roster. If Chip is able to step in and take is to the next level I think that will be pretty amazing, given in this day of free agency its not like you have to rely totally on the draft.

Oh, for some reason I keep thinking the next draft is 2014 haha.

So if we get MM, we won't need Foles obviously.

So to move up 20 spots and upgrade from Foles to Mariota, we lose Mccoy, Cox, and our 2nd rounder.

Don't like it. But it could be a lot worse.

5 people and 2 really good players in Mccoy and Cox for a rookie QB?

I would hate every second of that deal. For many, many years.

Seems like too much. I guess if he is really practically Luck, then you do it, but I would rather try to build around Foles and sure up the secondary.

Just curious as I don't watch a lot of college fb, are there any QB'S that could go later that would have potential in this system like Hundley/Prescott? Where we would keep Foles and try to develop someone that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Same. Reminds me of the Lindros deal years ago, hated that too. But do you think TB would even do this? I doubt they would. I'm sure they could get more and not have to pick so late in the first.

I'd say a couple PAC-10 guys:

Kevin Hogan- Stanford

Sean Mannion Oregon State

I took the question as purely hypothetical. I can't imagine any team taking Shady's contract and isnt TB OK at DT?

So basically the Bucs get two players in walk years, an overpaid RB with a cap hit of $12M at a position of depth, and two lotto tickets. Why would Tampa do this?

You think that's on par with what the Rams received?

The Rams got future picks. In this deal, as opposed to getting picks they'd be getting Foles, McCoy and Cox. That's way worse IMO. What picks would those guys be in a draft?

But McCoy at his salary is almost a negative. Better off spending 12 million on the o-line. Not saying I like the deal but not in the ballpark of the Redskins deal.

Foles would be about a 3rd? Cox maybe a second at best. McCoy at his salary, I don't know a second or third.

Most people aren't sure if Foles is an NFL starter and rbs aren't worth what they were. A solid, not great, DT isn't worth a ton either. Not sure how anyone could value this more than three 1st round picks where you can get guys at cheap salaries.

Foles and Cox might be worth a 4th at best on a one year deal. Try to trade McCoy and his contract. I doubt you'd get many bites at all.

The only way the Bucs even entertain that trade is if McCoy isn't involved and they can work out extensions for Foles and Cox. They'd also probably want a 2016 first.
