This set of polls is for rookie picks prior to the NFL draft. There will also be a set of polls for after the NFL draft. As always - please feel free to add any comments on why you selected a player at this slot and to suggest players who you think have been overlooked (or if you voted other, then please feel free to add a post on who you voted for).

The purpose for these polls is to attempt to roughly gauge the perceived values of the rookie players without knowing the context of their draft position and team that they are drafted by. The polls that take place after the NFL Draft obviously will factor in situation as well as talent, and of course the knowledge of what NFL Draft round and team each player has landed on.

Debate is very welcome as we all want to know not only which players are specifically ranked ahead of others but also why. This also bumps the thread so that more people will see the poll and hopefully participate by voting.

I will try to stay on top of these and keep the polls moving. The more votes the better. I prefer to not close any poll until there are at least 100 votes and I might leave a poll open longer if the vote is very close between prospects.

Here are the results so far:

After 45 votes Jay Ayaji has a strong lead the standard poll and a slight lead over Jaelen Strong in the PPR poll. Kevin White is running away with the 2QB poll. I suppose in part because of the combine results from yesterday pushing him ahead of the other WR in many peoples minds now.

DGB at 1.06? If you're going to take that risk you might as well trade the pick to the Gordon owner. At least you know you have an elite player if he plays.

huh? 1.06 seems like a great place to take him

At 73 votes Jay Ayaji is winning the standard poll with 43% of the vote. He is also leading the PPR poll with 31% but Jaelen Strong is only 6 votes behind him.

There are a few votes for players other than Kevin White in the 2QB poll. But not many.

I'm pretty surprised to see Jaelen Strong compete for #7 with Ajayi in that PPR poll. I don't see it at all. I guess since DGB going right in front, then people are now willing to take the chance on Strong too?

For Jaelen Strong I recommend looking at this thread.

I voted for Strong in the PPR vote because I think he is the best player available in that format. Strong had a highly productive 2 seasons with Arizona. In the 9 lists of prospect rankings I have compiled so far Jaelen Strong is in the top 5 of 5 of those lists, one time appearing as the number one WR (optimum scouting). The main question about Strong leading into the combine was his speed. After putting up a 4.44 time at the combine, as well as 42" vertical these are not questions or possible weaknesses anymore.

Agreed, and i wouldn't be shocked to see him go at 1.05 either.
Would either of you trade that pick for Gordon? The two seem similar with their rock star attitudes and not changing their ways, except with Gordon we know he's an elite NFL talent when he plays. Seems like no one wants to trade much for Gordon, yet a guy with his same attitude and only 'hype/potential' at this point is worth more.

DGB isn't suspended all next season and he has some cushion on failing drug tests. If Gordon fails another he could be done, DGB has a couple strikes left.

I assume that's why all the people that voted for him did, because they think he's the best available. I simply don't see it that early. As of now I think you take the chance in early 2nd where he could be available.

But that falls into my general draft strategy, if I'm in the early 1st (top half) then I go for elite prospects, if I'm in the late 1st (bottom half) I tend to go a little safer for a can't miss guy who will have a solid career with a high floor, but might not have that ceiling some people look for. Jordan Matthews is an example from last year that I preferred in the late 1st. But the way I see it right now is that after #6 there is no "safe" option yet. That's where you get into the Strong's, Winston's, Mariota's, DGB's, Yeldon's, Coates', and whoever else you want to throw in there. So I'll be waiting for someone to assert themselves as a high floor guy in the right situation.

I think the idea of shooting for the higher ceiling prospect is the main reason people voted in DGB at 1.06

To be honest I am a bit torn between Jaelen Strong or Sammie Coates at this spot. If I am going for the higher upside I would likely vote for Coates especially in standard leagues. But I voted for Strong because I think he is closer to Coates due to the PPR scoring and a slightly safer pick due to questions about Coates's ball tracking ability.
