Going to see Blade Runner: The Final cut on a big screen Thursday

It's playing in a double feature with Metropolis, but BR is the movie I'm geeked about seeing again.
Really? I'm guessing that Metropolis is the restored version so I would love to see that on the big screen.
I'm not opposed to finishing it, but by then the weed and liquor...I mean...fatigue will have taken its toll.

BR is a top 3 for me- but I'm a bit burned out on all the cuts. I saw the director's cut (without the voiceover) when they first rereleased it... wow- a long time ago. unless Jar-jar shows up, I'm not sure what else there is to add.
Seeing one of my all time top 10 favorites on the big screen is a rare treat - regardless of the iteration.

yeah- totally.

I guess for me- I've seen it on the big screen 3 or 4 times... unless it's in 4D, I don't think I need to see it up there any more. plus, I've seen it so many times that I just look for all the little bad bits (eg: stuntman/woman breaking through the plate glass windows with wig falling off)

They fixed that in the Final Cut.

Saw Ironclad on cable last night. What a waste of a surprisingly good cast, and somewhat of a good premise. And the acting by said cast wasn't that hot either. Lots of blood and severed limbs though. Sadly, not a must see.

Holy cow, they had the chutzpah to make a sequel to this. Without any of the cast from the first one. :loco: I guess since getting offed in Game Of Thrones Michelle Fairely really needs work.

We have a local theater that does these types of shows in town, it's great. This would be a great DF. I'm gong to send them a suggestion. Enjoy!!

My city isn't very large, but thankfully we get cult film double features every Thursday.

nope. I live in a ####hole of 2500 people. Madison has something on campus where they show old classics- Hitchcock, etc. Would love a theater that shows fun stuff like this though.

I wonder if one that shows mainly older stuff could last financially.

I've only seen it once, but once I see it again I may very well declare that I love it.
It bears watching with a good sound system. The audio is really well done.

So, are these theaters that usually show current movies and just do this once or twice a month? Is there a big turnout?

Ours is doing very well. Young kid owns it and he has diversified into hosting concerts, art fairs for local artists, ghost tours and the like along with showing old flicks on the big screen. He did 2001 and A Clockwork Orange DF a few weeks back and was sold out (about 300 seat each - two-side theater).

Ours shows mostly current indie films and old classics. Besides the other things I mentioned.

Where do you live/size if town?

Curious how hard it is/how pricey it is to get prints of older movies.

Theater is in town where I work. City population is about 9,600. Not sure about price/availability of getting older movies. I'll ask him next time I see a movie there. He offers free advertising on his theater sign for your business and 50 free tickets to your group for a $300 sponsorship per movie.

It's my dream to open a drive in movie theater. Nothing like that anywhere near here.

The theater that shows cult films here every two weeks is just another large multi-plex. I assume Thursdays were dead, so they tried something different. I guarantee these films do better ticket sales than your average film on a Thursday night.

I guess it's long gone- used to be one right on 101 at the Marin/Sonoma border. There was a house on a hill overlooking it that I used to always wish I lived in when I was a kid.

If I ever won the lottery, I would love to have what you are describing with that theater. Maybe something that shows new stuff on the weekends and older/themed stuff during the week. Don't know why more don't do that during the week, but I would guess that it has something to do with the cost of the old movies. I would think that people who start up things like this would do it more for the love of movies than money as I would think it would be slow going at first until you get a consistent crowd. But as you said, I would guess you would have a lot more people coming on a Wednesday night for an Evil Dead marathon than you would for a typical Wednesday night. I have gone to so many movies during the week where it is me and about 6 other people in the theater.

hfs- you're right! totally forgot it shifted over to xxx at some point. I saw some movies there as a kid (not pron). makes living in that house on the hill even betterer.

Drive in theaters are great.. now days the sound is through your car speakers ... add in 3 movies for the price of one and it doesn't get much better on a nice warm summer night :banned:

i think there are 3 or so in my area, but it seems like one of the movies is one my son isn't ready to see. Maybe this year might be good year to try though.

When I was a kid, there was a theater in Petaluma, CA that played a new double feature every night. Very eclectic. So one night it'd be a Marx Brothers double feature, the next night it'd be Jimi Hendrix At Berkeley with Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains The Same. Man I miss that theater.

I saw a "movie" there once.

As soon as the movie started, I said, "Man, why am I watching porn with a bunch of dudes?"

Night of the Hunter:

Good, but didn't live up to the hype/rating for me. Really liked the premise of the movie and the look of the movie was amazing. I think more than anything it was the acting that drug it down a little for me. There were time where what was going on should be creepy or scary and it was comical (main one I remember was him chasing the kids up the cellar stairs). 6/10

To Die For:

This was at the peak of my love for Kidman and I remember thinking it was one of the better movies that year. Didn't quite live up to my memory, but still really enjoyed it. Completely forgot that Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck were in this one. 7/10

Persona:

The only other Bergman movie I have seen is The Seventh Seal. I remember that one being a bit of a chore for me to get through. This one I loved and had me engaged right away, even though I am not 100% sure what happened. Beautifully shot, weird, emotional, great acting. Will be interested in watching this one again in the near future and unpacking it more. 8.5/10

Beth's somewhere in Eastern PA did that as well. Makes me think it wasn't that uncommon.

We had one in our town. XXX Drive-in. At some point the property was sold to the Catholic diocese and they put a huge church and school complex on the site.

Sadly, the only way to make a drive in theatre a worse investment would be to add on a bookstore.

It Follows

didn't like it at all and i am bamboozled by the critical acclaim. I couldn't wait for it to end. 2/5

White God

Another highly rated foreign film, won a Cannes award. About a girl and her dog. Dog gets dumped, abused, and jailed, then leads the pack on a city wide killing spree. It had is moments and the girl and lead dog gave terrific performances, but even with the Armadoggen final act, it couldn't bolster a final rating of more than 2.6/5 rating from me.

Taking the day off today. Considering one or more of the following:

Ex Machina

Roar

While We're Young

All are highly rated. Roar, an 80s movie with Tippi Hedron and Melanie Griffith had an amazing 70 cast members injured during filming is intriguing, but I may just go to the track and bet Santa Anita on simulcast.

decisions,decisions

I wonder if one that shows mainly older stuff could last financially.
It's my dream to open a drive in movie theater. Nothing like that anywhere near here.

Saw Salt Of The Earth last night.

Go see it (or rent/stream it when you can). What a life that guy has lead. It's hard to describe how watching it makes you feel, so see it and judge for yourself. At some points it evinces total despair, at others hope. Definitely worth your time. Not for those who need action - it's a documentary in which a lot of time is spent just looking at (fanstastic) still pictures.

Wild - 2.5/5 There really is not much to the story but it was mildly entertaining. If you are into hiking you would probably get more enjoyment than me out of it.

Watched John Wick while doing some other things yesterday. I like the sleeping bear revenge stories so I thought it was good for what it was. Definitely got a little old towards the end.

Interstellar - 4/5

Finally got around to watching this. I'm kicking myself for not seeing it on the big screen. Loved the music. It kept me guessing right up to the end. I never saw the big plot twist coming. I'll definitely rewatch at some point to pick up more of the finer points.
