Oy. Glad it’s not looking like arthritis. Have you ever had regular body work like sports massage every couple weeks or something like rolfing?  Good plan to get on softer surfaces and more frequent shoes.

Good luck!
I have not.  Massage would likely be beneficial.  I'll consider it if PT doesn't help.

I've never heard of rolfing before.  Just looked it up on Wikipedia.  I'll probably pass on that.

Yeah no experience with Rolfing except I had a person talk up as head to toe awesome. Seems pretty involved over a sequence of sessions and $$. I’ve been loosely alternating PT and massage like 6 weeks between each. Helps me at least feel like I’m not ingraining bad stuff all the time.

I've been running only six days a week to try to help the injuries.  I also recently promised myself I'd stop trying to push mileage over 400 on shoes and to run on softer surfaces like the track and limestone trails more often.
Hey, let's not get crazy here!  But seriously, some track work could be beneficial ...a softer surface, and the opportunity to do some strides (or intervals).  I find that my first interval or two is always slow as the body feels tight, but then everything loosens up.

Nice 15 miler for me today.  Pace and HR were really good as I just cruised along through the forest preserve (paved trail) - 8:46/mi ..avg HR - 145.  I expected to feel rather beat up with this long run, but I feel fine.  Huh.  Not bad for week three of marathon training (hoping to do my first 20 miler in two or three weeks).

Like how you switch right into beast mode.

I got a 6.5 hr ride this morning. Sitting here sipping tea waiting to poop.

Apparently my wife is all pissed as I woke the dog, who kept her up all last night, and am getting the stink eye.

Should be be a gorgeous day. Hope to be home by 1pm. Have a 15min run after,  i guess to make sure my legs can still hold me up.

I started sleeping downstairs in our family room on early running days. I can get ready down here in peace and never wake up the kids, the wife, or the dog. Works out great.

So... I got up early and did a half marathon on my own this morning for the fun of it... #BMF

But I have been trying to convince myself that the full wouldn't be "that bad". Today I reminded that it is going to suck something awful... But I do still have 17 more Saturdays to try to prepare... Also realized that 6 days of 13+ is truly crazy!

They aren’t that bad. It’s only the last 6 miles that are really terrible.

Have fun!

Ran with a buddy this morning so I skipped doing MAF and just let him set the pace - he stopped at 3:6 and I did the loop again with the goal of having even a one sec negative split.  I got done thought I did it and then realized I didn’t really know as I didn’t do a lap time and since the loop isn’t even miles I wasn’t sure.  So, question - is there a way to get time at a certain point in. Strava?  I’m either an idiot and can’t figure it out (most likely), it’s part of the pay version (good chance) or it doesn’t exist and I need to get a better tracker.  Either way I think I came either pretty close or did a negative split which made me very happy.

Suck it up buttercup. 100000 people a year in the us alone do a Mary each year including catastrophe out of shape people. I thought u were a bmf?

You should be able to figure it out from the overview and where you were at various times.  Probably easier to do that on a PC than a phone or tablet.

I'm on my phone so not sure if you can get a time snapshot at a location or not... but looking at the mile splits, 5-7 is definitely faster than 1-3.

In an effort to give the back and legs a break or at least something different I decided to join one of the local group rides today. Posted ride speed was 18 but I got split out the back at mile 23. Caught back up at the halfway test stop and hung. On for dear life for another 10 before a decent hill ate me for lunch. Pretty much blew up but found a country store that had grape behind and cheer wine with real cane sugar. That got me home the last 26 solo. Starting cramping and had to walk the last 200 ft to my front door. Talk about perfect timing. 87 s 64 for a 151 suck index in full sun

Just pulled up the flyby on my iPad, you were mega consistent. I didn't slow it down to get an exact time split, but looked like you were about 44/42, I think but you would have to zoom in on the start/stop spot at the middle and end to know for sure.

First 20 is just a warm up. Last 6 is where you start picking people off
There you go, making it sound all easy again. I have to build myself up to believing that again...

Seeing a 7th day in a row of 13.1 and it done at basically the same pace I did I day in gives me hope but still reminds me the whole thing is a little crazy. But I'm loving it anyway...

8 years ago, I ran my first half marathon.  I remember toeing the line and being nervous.

I just completed 7 days straight of a half marathon. Tomorrow will make it 8 straight days (then I’ll stop.)

Enjoy the journey and I can’t recommend enough for you to run that marathon.  Yes, it will suck at times.  Yes, the last 10k will likely hurt.  But the training and the race will change your life and how you view yourself.

Wow - thanks Ig - really appreciate that!

I’m  out now but will hop on my laptop when I get home - I never use the PC version so need to check it out

You could do it next month (assuming it wasn't the middle of summer with crappy temps) and have a good event.  Don't sweat it.  Obviously a good training cycle would give you a better time, but you are fit enough right now to do this successfully.  And don't let all these guys telling you the last 6.2 will suck get into your head.  That's more likely bad nutrition, poor hydration, just running the first part faster than your training, or bad luck with the weather.  The last 6.2 will rock as the miles tick down to you successfully kicking it's rear.

He’s right. The rest of us are just being turds.

Agreed.  I've had final miles struggles, but they tended to be caused by temps/humidity.  I've also had a few marathons where just the last mile or two were mentally challenging because I had worked hard and was ready to be finished.  Run a race that's consistent with the training, and it becomes manageable.

Must be a karmic running day today.  Strava is chock full of you BMFs getting it done.  I think my mouse button is broken after clicking all the kudos.

@pbm107, great race today!  Congrats on the Masters win.  That HR was crazy high and @gianmarco will pass out when he sees your cadence on Strava...
Thanks, I believe the HR number I was definitely suffering out there today. My cadence has been showing up double the actual number for a while now, don’t know what’s up with that.

It was a good effort today and I was happy to win money, $50 which was unexpected. I am slightly annoyed that I got out-kicked at the end by a kid wearing a cheeseburger costume and some other dude.

They changed the course a bit so it is difficult to compare times, but this was my 2nd fastest time for this race and that makes sense based on where I think I am at with my training.

Well la di da I’ll just go try and win some pie like I always did but I was able to suffer my way through it and win some money instead even though I wanted pie but they gave me real live money but strangely I am disappointed because I actually broke a sweat and didn’t get pie

I got the family Boilermaker 15k this morning. My best time was 2 years ago when I avgd like a 730 pace.  Last year was like a 740 pace but I was bike training mostly.  I guess swimming a lot also for the 5 miler.

This year will be different. I’ve never done any race the day after a huge workout. I’m guessing my legs won’t have a pop but I’ll be ok to pace it.

The good news is I delivered twins first thing this morning. I feel 4 lbs lighter and like a million bucks.

Then I get to drink beer. Very excited.

One of the local running elites qualified for Badwater 135 this year. He’s won the Daytona 100 miler the last two years and also took both boys & girls cross country teams to state finals as their coach this year. Very cool dude, Lee Whitacker if you want to follow along starting tomorrow. His goals are to #1 not die and #2 win. Should be fun to watch, his heat training lately has been interesting. His wife posted a pic of the inside temp of his truck about month or so ago, like 108. He had the heat cranked up on a 90 degree day. She was not amused for the 2 hour trip.

:lmao:

That's pretty good.

Ok... After running yesterday, spent a 1.5 hours driving to be a good kid and see my mom, then went to the casino for a for about a 6 hour poker session that ended less than ideal, then drove 1.5 hours home. Thought I'd be dead this morning but woke up feeling awesome, elated, ready for the next long run - not that that is happening today. Actually originally all things considered, figured I would want to do nothing but be lazy today. But I find myself really wanting to do a light run today. Probably will settle for a long walk and frisbee toss with the dog but this stuff is pretty addicting. I knew I should have stayed away from you drug pushers...

Congrats on the win, lost your amateur status though.

I’d love to crew that race some day. Absolutely zero interest in running it, but would be cool to experience it.

Holy cow ya bunch of jabber jaws... really hard to follow along with y’all.   Back home from vacation...

couple of days MTB at the Kingdom Trails followed by 7 days in the Whites

climbed up Mt. Washington to spread my fathers ashes with family.

Tons of waterfalls, rock hopping and forest bathing...

Hiked a 4K peak in 92% humidity yesterday and then got in a car for 8 hours. Every joint in my body is crusty especially my knees and ankles.

If y’all can get your shiiiit together I can host everyone coming to do the boilermaker.

Best hosted race in the US (.02). I got a lake cabin for everyone to stay. Best post race party by far (not .02).

Let me know if it’s in the cards for everyone. Always weekend after July 4th.

It doesn't get much better than upstate NY in July.
