[Dynasty] 2016 Draft Class (2 Viewers)

Rotoworld:

USC redshirt senior QB Cody Kessler completed 18-of-22 passes for 186 yards in Saturday's 27-21 win over Cal.

Kessler was certainly accurate enough, but his lack of touchdown passes of late is putting a serious crimp in his DFS usability. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound redshirt senior held a 15/1 TD/INT ratio through four games. In the four games since, he's tossed just three touchdown passes against four interceptions. USC has a ton of offensive firepower, but it's difficult to trust Kessler in DFS formats while he's stuck in his current rut.

Rotoworld:

Penn State junior QB Christian Hackenberg completed 21 of 29 attempts for 266 yards and two touchdowns in the school's 39-0 win over Illinois.

This was one of Hackenberg's three best games of his career. Illinois has talent along their front four, but Penn State's offensive line gave Hackenberg plenty of time in the pocket. Hackenberg responded by calmly working through progressions and hitting some nice downfield and redzone throws. The quarterback also caught a 14 yards touchdown pass. Those who like Hackenberg's draft projection will point to this game.

Rotoworld:

FSU QB Everett Golson will not play against Syracuse due to lingering concussion symptoms, according to Todd McShay.

Sean Maguire will start in Golson's place. FSU will be without their top two offensive players in Golson and sophomore RB Dalvin Cook, or basically 90 percent of their offense. Syracuse might not be overly talented, but it appears FSU is looking ahead to next week's game against Clemson. This has trap game narrative written all over it.

Seam McGuire looked better than Golson. Patrick, a true freshman 235 RB lived upto his 5* hype. Jimbo recruits so well.

Rotoworld:

Dom Williams - WR - Cougars

Washington State senior WR Dom Williams caught seven passes for 94 yards in Saturday's 30-28 loss to Stanford.

Just a heartbreaking loss for Wazzu. Cougars' kicker Erik Powell made his first five field goals of the game but missed the game-winner, a 43-yarder as time expired, to allow the Cardinal to escape. "We should have scored touchdowns in the red zone," HC Mike Leach said. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak. "No one's happy," Wazzu WR Gabe Marks said. "We made five (field goals). We missed one at the end and we lost. ... We should have won." For his part, he 6-foot-2, 190-pound Williams now has a sparkling 48-656-6 line on the campaign.

TCU senior QB Trevone Boykin is PFF's highest-graded quarterback (+40.8) and its highest-graded passer (+35.0).

The site passed along another interesting stat: Boykin's average sack time of 5.36 seconds is by far the most in the country, speaking to his supreme mobility. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound senior has racked up 2,927 passing yards with a 28/5 TD/INT ratio along with 524 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground. "It remains to be seen how Boykin stacks up against the running back duo of Leonard Fournette and Ezekiel Elliott in the race for the Heisman Trophy, but if he can keep up his recent form and get his team through the month of November without a loss, he will have a very good case for himself," wrote Zoltan Buday.

Cody Kessler - QB - Trojans

An NFL scout said USC redshirt senior QB Cody Kessler "gets a little tied up in his progression" and "needs to work on that."

"He's pretty good pre-snap," the scout told The Los Angeles Times. "He's accurate short to intermediate. He does not have a big arm. He's not a great deep-ball thrower…. They throw a lot of screens and hitches and bubble routes, everything really quick. If he's forced to hold onto the ball and it goes to second or third in progression, he's not nearly as decisive with it." The 6-foot-1, 215-pound redshirt senior completed 18-of-22 passes for 186 yards in Saturday's 27-21 win over Cal. "Obviously, they've had some issues there this year and it's been tough for all those kids, but he's a notch down [compared to Cal's Jared Goff] across the board," a second scout said. "Totally different ceiling on those two guys." Said Scout 3: "He's got all the intangibles. Smart, accurate for the most part. He has a hard time pushing the ball down the field. He's got a better cast [than Goff] around him."

Rotoworld:

Rutgers senior WR Leonte Carroo said that he's "just going to go out and compete" against Michigan redshirt freshman S Jabrill Peppers this weekend.

"There’s really not much to say," said Carroo. "[Peppers is] a great player, I’m a great player and I’m just going to go out and compete." Between an early suspension and a recent ankle, Carroo's missed three games, including Saturday's 48-10 loss to Wisconsin. When he's managed to make it to the field, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior's caught 24 passes for 527 yards and nine touchdowns. Should he be able to play this weekend, he'll be facing a Michigan defense surrendering 11.38 points per game on average (though the Wolverines have surrendered 53 points combined to Michigan State and Minnesota over their last two games).

Rotoworld:

Paxton Lynch - QB - Tigers

Former Chicago Bears director of college scouting Greg Gabriel reports that two NFL personnel directors and two scouts rank Memphis redshirt junior QB Paxton Lynch "hands down" as the No. 1 quarterback.

Gabriel is quickly becoming Jared Goff's most outspoken critic. "Agree that Goff is talented but not physically ready," Gabriel summarized of the Lynch-over-Goff situation. The 6-foot-7, 240-pounds Lynch has three inches and 25 pounds on Goff (6-foot-4, 215). Lynch also has an 18-1 TD-INT ratio. Not too shabby.

Rotoworld:

Jacoby Brissett - QB - Wolfpack

An East Coast area scout prefers North Carolina State redshirt senior QB Jacoby Brissett to Penn State's Christian Hackenberg and "believes Brissett will end up grading out higher."

One interesting aspect of this dispatch: It came before Brissett's star turn against Clemson on Saturday. In his Halloween coming out party, Brissett went 24-for-41 for 254 yards and three touchdowns and added a rushing score. Brissett's performance against the Tigers "impressed NFL scouts," per TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline, who added that Brissett "has a big league arm and easily drives the ball downfield with speed yet at the same time displayed feather like touch when necessary." Rotoworld's Josh Norris is a long-time Brissett fan and ranks him as the No. 2 QB in the class.

Rotoworld:

Penn State junior QB Christian Hackenberg posted his highest ever PFF grade (+3.4) against Illinois on Saturday.

Interestingly, Hack didn’t attempt even one pass of more than 20 yards. If you don't think that tidbit correlates with our long-stated concern over his inability to deal with pressure, we don't know what to tell you. To be fair, Hackenberg was 7-for-8 for 98 yards and two touchdowns on passes between 10-19 yards (and 21-of-29 for 266 yards with two score overall). "Hackenberg (-3.9) gets a lot of hype as a potential high draft pick in the NFL draft in the future, but we haven’t seen him grade very well at all since we began grading college football at the beginning of last season," wrote Gordon McGuiness. Hackenberg must have a heck of a publicist.

News flash, a QB struggles behind one of the worst offensive lines in all of college football.

Kevin Hogan - QB - Cardinal

ESPN's KC Joyner argues that Stanford redshirt senior QB Kevin Hogan should be involved in the Heisman Trophy discussion.

Hogan's counting stats aren't very good, so he has no chance at the prize, but Joyner thinks that's a shame because his advanced-metric numbers are superb. For instance, Hogan ranks No. 5 in Total QBR (84.9), sixth in yards per attempt (8.9), sixth in TD percentage (7.4 percent), 10th in completion percentage (66.4 percent) and 14th in yards per completion (13.3). Hogan's numbers on short passes are particularly good, which Joyner explains is the result of not having a good offensive line or many play-making WRs. "After the win over the Cougars, Cardinal coach David Shaw called Hogan the type of player 'who can will his team to victories,'" wrote Joyner. "This is the same type of comment that was made about Tim Tebow during his Heisman Trophy season, and it's the sort of thing that will be remembered long after any award ceremony would be forgotten."

NFL sources tell Walter Football that Kentucky redshirt junior QB Patrick Towles has "physical skills for the NFL" but remain "concerned about his anticipation and awareness."

Of all the juniors, Towles may be the most likely to return for his senior year," reported Charlie Campbell. The analyst went on to say that the NFL is actually optimistic about this being a quality and deep QB class. "In speaking with sources, they say that at this time none of these players are as good of prospects as Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota were last year," he wrote. "So while last April had more high-end talent, this year's class features a lot more depth. With a huge number of teams needing a franchise quarterback, this could be the draft they've been waiting for."

Anyone have a rough top 10-12 or so for 2016 rookies, fantasy wise? 1st round picks are starting to come into focus about where in the draft they'll be, so just seeing who'll likely be available where. TIA.

In general is this class stronger or weaker than this past year? I don't think anyone is going to be competing with the Gurley's or Cooper's of the world....

Baylor redshirt junior RB Shock Linwood ran only 13 times for 72 yards in Thursday's win over Kansas State.

Presumably, Bears HC Art Briles preferred the matchup against Kansas State's secondary and decided to attack it, disappointing DFS players who invested in Linwood in the Thursday slate. Adding to Linwood's lack of production was the timeshare with Devin Chafin, Baylor's big back who is finally healthy after rushing just four times in the previous five games (he didn't play in the first three of those). If Baylor intends to go with more of a true thunder-and-lightning timeshare in the backfield going forward -- think a lesser version of what USC did with Reggie Bush and LenDale White back in the day -- Linwood's DFS value will take a huge hit.

Nov 6 - 1:37 PM

Mississippi State junior WR De'Runnya Wilson caught four passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns in the school's 31-13 win over Missouri.

Wilson continues to shine in the redzone as of late, but also converted a 63 yard reception in this contest. Wilson was not reliable earlier in the season in the area he needs to specialize in: contested catches. The junior has a similar build to Kelvin Benjamin, however, his projection does not seem to be first-round worthy at this time.

coleman is looking very interesting and ezekial makes 100 yards a game look ez

Rotoworld:

Penn State junior QB Christian Hackenberg completed just 21 of 40 attempts for 205 yards and an interception in the school's 23-21 loss to Northwestern.

It was easily Hackenberg's worst game in weeks. The quarterback threw his first interception in seven games, started the contest 1 for 10 in attempts and Penn State produced nearly double digit 3-and-out drives. Nothing went well outside of freshman running back Saquon Barkley.

Nov 7 - 4:12 PM

Rotoworld:

Marquise Williams - QB - Tar Heels

UNC senior QB Marquise Williams completed 23-of-35 passes for 494 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 30 yards and an additional score in Saturday's 66-31 win over Duke.

Williams previous season-high for passing yardage was 282 yards against Wake Forest on October 17, but he blew away that mark against Duke on Saturday. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound senior threw three of his four touchdown passes in the first half as UNC raced out to a 38-10 lead before hitting the locker room. Williams has now accounted for 21 total touchdowns. He's a DFS stud through and through.

Nov 7 - 3:51 PM

Rotoworld:

Pittsburgh junior WR Tyler Boyd caught three passes for 84 yards and a touchdown in the school's 41-30 loss to Notre Dame.

In the game, Boyd became the school's all time receiving yards leader after passing Antonio Bryant. Boyd still has a few games remaining in just his third season with the Panthers. We don;t think Boyd belongs among the potential round one receiver prospects, but he will make a living as a very solid slot receiver in the NFL, winning on crossing routes in the short and intermediate levels.

Nov 7 - 3:47 PM

Rotoworld:

Notre Dame junior WR Will Fuller caught seven passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns in the school's 42-30 win over Pitt.

For some reason, Pittsburgh thought it was a good idea to play man to man on Fuller with no safety help, leading to at least one long touchdown of 47 yards. Fuller is a vertical or screen pass receiver right now, producing huge plays down the field if teams will be patient and willing enough to live through the drops. He and DeShone Kizer play off each other very well.
