To start, this is all based on my opinion so do what you want 
I put in a few dollars on Draft Kings just to start getting ready for the season. I've entered a few cash games but what I've noticed is the 50/50s and the competition. So far, I've placed in each one (thanks Jonas Gray and Henne to Harbor yesterday) but if you look at who finished last….theres a few people who are starting guys who don't even play.
One 50/50 someone was starting MJD. Looking deeper, it seems as if many new people are just selecting guys and seeing what happens. There is opportunity to be made without the sharks swooping in right now.
So if you're on the fence, try it out IMO. It isn't easy to predict who will do well but I have been starting my lineup with guys who will be on the field as much as possible. Plus, it's a good warmup for the start of the regular season.
