Surprised there isn't a separate thread here. Centralized place to share BlizzIDs, decks, arena runs, etc.

I love this game. I've never gotten into card games, electronic or otherwise. I had a friend try to get me to Magic The Gathering, and I disliked it. I have kids who dabble in Pokemon, and I can't stand it. But this game, for some reason, really grabbed me. I think it's the fact that you are playing against actual people, the Blizzard polish, as well as the more casual nature. It's pretty much the only game I play now on iPad or iPhone.

I've been playing for about a year and have a decent collection, but by no means a complete one. I play all of the classes, and prefer control/midrange over aggro.

Thanks for starting a thread here about it, it would be great to have an active FBG community.

You should post in the video game thread. There are a few people in their that play Hearthstone.

Yeah, I know. Thought there would be some interest in a specific topic, but if it doesn't catch we can just hang out in that other thread.

Is this set to be a cultural phenomenon like Angry Birds, Pokémon, etc. where even uninterested non-gaming people know exactly what Hearthstone is? Or is it still kinda niche?

First I had heard of it was this thread being posted. But then, Angry Birds, Farmville, Candy Crush, etc. were already wildly popular before I had ever heard of them at all. I know Hearthstone is an online card game (right?) and not comparable in game play to the games I am comparing it to ... that's because I am thinking in terms of mass cultural penetration first and foremost.

Bump. Recently got back into this game after months off, love the new expansion.

It's free to play, but pay to win. You can only do so much without paying for packs/adventures (or playing for a REALLY long time). This coming from someone who has done both.

Pros:

Free to play and you CAN craft cards for free if you're willing to wait/put time into it.

Very fun

Simple to learn

Can pull off amazing wins because of luck

Cons:

Pay to win and the cards you start off with kinda suck

You'll have to spend a LOT of time/money to get most of the cards

Luck is a double edged sword, and it will cut your throat seemingly more often than it will help you

Game is about 40% skill, 30% luck, and 30% what cards you own. Great to give it a try and play it occasionally, but the barrier to entry for newer players wishing to be competitive in ranked play past rank 12 or so is really really high. Luckily there's an Arena mode that lets you draft a deck that's really fun. Too bad it costs in game currency to play (though the 1st one is free).

Arena is the way to go unless you have got a lot of cards. Ranked play gets rough and repetitive unless you can make several good decks.

i have started playing this a little. i was looking for something like Pokemon that my son could play on my phone when necessary and found this. it's fun and pretty straightforward so far. i have just been playing cards randomly, i think, and finished practice rounds with the other classes.

I still play this game.

My current goal is to get all 9 heroes to be golden (500 wins in ranked).

I only have two left, Rogue (350 wins) and Druid (245 wins).

I have not spent even a dime on the game though as I find simple consistent play can get you what ever you want in game by just earning gold.

It will obviously be a little tougher with new players to remain Free to play but the new expansion coming up is going to remove a ton of cards from standard mode allowing new players to have a small chance to grind but it may still be tough.
