Fairbairn or Badgley this week?

Barely survived Fairbairn giving me a whopping 3 points last week.

Oh boy, someone's either really happy or really mad.

Weather would probably be worth checking. - looks like rain for the Panthers game.

Now it looks like rain in Ballrimore with wind gusts of 25mph..After Mahomes, Kelce and Allen failed to live up to expectations I think I have to go Lutz..playing against Fairburn hurts as well

All of FF is a crapshoot at predictng weekly outcomes.  That’s the nature of the beast.

Made worse by the fact that predicting kickers is closer to projecting “team defense” than to individual position players.  Have to consider offensive skill, red zone efficiency, coaching tendencies...

Still possible to make reasonable predictions across a full season as to which kickers will be better, which to avoid, and expect to be as accurate as predicting RBs.  (Remember how every year we get stories of the 4-6 projected top RBs who drop precipiously out of the top 10 each year?)

True to a point, but K appear to me to be much less predictable than say top RB's or WR's or QB's in my opinion.

Whenever I switch kickers after a bad game or two is when they go off for 10+  (seem to always get 4-7)

Sticking with Gostikowski this week baring any crazy wind.

True - I guess I'm coming at it from a streamer game by game perspective.  You're probably right on an overall seasonal basis, I've been trying to stream and striking out a lot lately.  Thanks for your info.

I know what you mean.  I've been streaming TE and have managed to turn Burton's TE7 standing into TE15-20 by benching him the wrong weeks.  If you had asked to to guess his ranking w/o looking it up, I would have said around TE14-16.

Re: Jason Myers

Jason Myers the first Jets kicker to miss multiple PATs since John Hall on Dec. 12, 1999. Myers has now missed more extra points this season (3) than field goals (2). Myers is a career 87% kicker on extra points and a career 85% kicker on field goals.

I freaking stuck with Myers. He's the #1 scoring kicker in my league I told myself. You don't bench #1. I hate kickers so much. I still made the super bowl though, so now what... Myers? Crosby? Someone actually dropped the Chiefs guy. Him? HELP!

I picked up Lutz off waivers the day before the season started last year and this year spent a 13th rounder on him. Been nice not thinking about K for two years.

FGA are the best predictor, and so I guess FGA allowed would be one place to start.

Season:

1. Philadelphia Eagles vs. K    36
2. New York Jets vs. K       35
3. New York Giants vs. K    34
4. Cleveland Browns vs. K  36
5. Minnesota Vikings vs. K 32
6. Cincinnati Bengals vs. K 31
7. Indianapolis Colts vs. K  30
8. Denver Broncos vs. K     29
9. Miami Dolphins vs. K      29
10. Oakland Raiders vs. K   29

Last 5:

Jets, Eagles - 14
Bears, Bengals, Redskins - 12

Last 3:

Jets - 12
Rams, Browns - 10
Bears, Bengals, Eagles - 9

Pick one and stick with him. I got cute and subbed in Parkey for Gould who I had used most of the year last week because he was ranked higher on FBG and that 9 point difference cost me a ticket to the championship.

I’m getting my butt kicked by this cold something fierce. If anyone wants to help a brother out and figure out who won this week’s kicker contest, please be my guest.

Otherwise I’ll try to get to it after tomorrow or Sunday’s market (assuming I can drag my ### there with enough DayQuil & cough drops)

again, my apologies for the delay - timing sucked on this one. I never want to delay results - someone *will* get 3 bottles of sauce, I’m just not sure who.

now where’s my damn tea?  :coffee:

Believe my Fairbairn pick won the day, if I read the rules correctly and “highest scoring kicker” was the determining factor (rather than scoring prediction accuracy).   No other selected kicker came close...

OK, at long last here are the results of the last officially unofficial Official K contest of the year!

First, my sincere apologies. As many of you know, I am a farmers market vendor, and also do online. I am a tiny company & do all of my own fulfillment which has been pretty crazy this time of year. On Tuesday I caught a bad chest cold, and managed to kick it enough to work my markets this weekend - thankfully, as they're the 2 biggest of the year coming just before XMas. As you can imagine, getting up at 04:30 AM isn't awesome with a cold, and by the time I get back at ~3:00 PM I'm pretty exhausted.

Ordinarily I try to get these results published & winner notified the very next day - unfortunately due to these circumstances, this update is tardy, and for that my sincere apologies.

First off, the Cowboys can suck it - my most hated team got shut out in Indy, giving me (and Dan) a big fat goose egg in the playoffs. Badgley with his 3 killed me in my other league. I lost in both playoffs as the 1 & 2 seed, respectively by less than 8 points in each I was also the 1-2 total scoring team in the leagues. So it is with ultimately painful irony that KICKERS were the reason I lost. (they weren't, really - Luck throwing 0 TDs in one league & Thielen/Hill combining for trash in the other were the real culprits, but naturally I'm blaming the f-ing kickers)

And so without further ado, here's the deal:

@Arodin crushed it. It was Fairbairn, and it was not remotely close.  Duede scored 23. Didn't miss. The next kicker was 7 points+ down.

Fairbair

16 pts

long 46

Nicely done my friend - stragedy paid off. Drop me a PM with a shipping address & I'll get your 3-pack of sauce out on the 26th.

Thanks for playing this season folks, and happy holidays to everyone! :pickle:

Says you can’t receive messages.  Maybe your box is full?

Anyway, thanks for running the contests, and you may still have my address from one of last year’s victories.  Glad you are feeling better too.  On to offseason kicker research!

Cody Parkey went 3-of-4 on field goals in Chicago's 16-15, Wild Card loss to the Eagles on Sunday, missing a 43-yard game-winning field goal at the end of the fourth quarter.

Parkey had a tumultuous first season in Chicago, hitting the uprights four times in Week 10 against the Lions, again in Week 17, and finally hit the upright andcrossbar on the same kick against Philly with the Bears trailing by one point with five seconds remaining in the contest. On the year, Parkey went 26-of-34 on field goals and 42-of-45 on extra points. That's not goo enough. Signed to a four-year deal, Parkey is very likely to be cut in the offseason after this latest blunder.

ESPN's Vaughn McClure reports the Bucs "will have interest" in free agent K Matt Bryant.

Bryant is just waiting for his formal release after announcing on Wednesday that the Falcons were cutting him. New Bucs STs coordinator Keith Armstrong was Bryant's special teams coach in Atlanta for the entirety of his 10 seasons with the Falcons. Bryant kicked for the Bucs from 2005-2008. The Bucs have long been looking for a steadying presence at kicker.

Giorgio Tavecchio is expected to be the Falcons' kicker in 2019.

The Falcons released longtime K Matt Bryant on Wednesday. Tavecchio (28) is 15 years younger than Bryant and costs a fraction of what Bryant was scheduled to make. Bryant remains one of the best when healthy, but Tavecchio was a fine replacement for three games Bryant missed this past season, making all five of his field goals and eight PATs. He'll be a top fantasy kicker.

Bucs signed K Phillip Andersen.

Danish, Andersen arrives via the German Football League's Berlin Eagles. Andersen impressed the Bucs with a workout during Senior Bowl week. He is currently the only kicker on the Bucs' 90-man roster. It's an interesting story, though one that is unlikely to end with Andersen securing 2019 kicking duties. That being said, coach Bruce Arians has always been open to outside-the-box developments. Andersen's whole story can be found at the link.

ESPN's Nick Wagoner believes Robbie Gould will be franchise tagged if he and the 49ers cannot reach a long-term deal.

Gould has converted 96 percent of his field goal attempts during his two seasons in San Francisco, and the 49ers are not going to let that kind of consistency at an inconsistent position walk out the door. If he is tagged, Gould will be scheduled to make around $5 million in 2019.

According to Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston, the Patriots have yet to approach impending free agent K Stephen Gostkowski about using the franchise tag.

Gostkowski has been one of the league's most reliable kickers throughout his 13-year run in Foxboro, though the 35-year-old wasn't quite as sharp in 2018, converting just 84.4 percent of his field goal attempts compared to 92.5 the year before. It's hard to imagine the Pats letting Stevie G hit the market, though with the franchise tag deadline set for 4 PM ET on Tuesday, it's beginning to look like a real possibility. If the Patriots choose to use it, Gostkowski would earn a $5 million salary under the tag. The last time New England used the tag was also on Gostkowski back in 2015.

Seahawks agreed to terms with K Jason Myers, formerly of the Jets, on a four-year contract.

Myers spent last summer with the Seahawks before being cut in August. He latched on with the Jets and beat out Taylor Bertolet for the job. Myers went on to hit 33-of-36 field goals and 30-of-33 extra points en route to a Pro Bowl selection. His 91.7% success rate on field goals is nearly seven percentage points higher than his career average. Myers will replaces Sebastian Janikowski in Seattle and be paid as one of the league's premier kickers.

Saints re-signed K Wil Lutz to a five-year contract.

Lutz signed with the Saints in September 2016 after failing to overtake legendary Justin Tucker in Baltimore that summer as a rookie UDFA. Ever since, Lutz has been New Orleans' ultra-reliable kicker, hitting 87-of-100 field goals and 148-of-153 PATs. After a shaky first season, Lutz has missed just two kicks from 50-plus yards out the last two years. Lutz was scheduled for restricted free agency this offseason.

Jets signed K Chandler Catanzaro, formerly of the Panthers.

Catanzaro spent his first three seasons in Arizona but has bounced around with the Jets, Bucs, and Panthers the last two seasons. He's going back to New York to replace Jason Myers. Catanzaro has nailed all five of his 50-plus-yard kicks the last two years but has struggled from close range and on extra points.

Vikings re-signed K Dan Bailey to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Once one of the most accurate kickers in the league, Bailey's decline continued last season as he converted just 21-of-28 field goal attempts including only 5-of-11 from 40 yards or more in 14 games with the Vikings. It would not be a surprise if the Vikings brought in some competition.
