The Official Kicker (K) Thread (6 Viewers)

Of the 20 most accurate field-goal kickers in NFL history, only three were drafted — Stephen Gostkowski, Ryan Keading and Dustin Hopkins. The two most accurate kickers in NFL history — Justin Tucker and Robbie Gould — went undrafted, as did the closest thing the position has to a superstar, Adam Vinatieri.

Titans activated K Ryan Succop (knee surgery) from the active/PUP list.

Kicker news you can use. 32-year-old Succop has never missed a regular season contest. Kicking in the Titans' low-scoring offense, Succop will be a rarely-used fantasy option in 2019.

Does anyone but me loath the kicker spot?  It's a pointless position with enough weekly variability to swing a close game, but there's absolutely no skill in deciding between two players and only one or two display and kind of year to year consistency. Hell, even offensive sceme doesn't seem to matter as to a kickers usefulness.

In my family bragging rights league I've just gotten rid of the spot entirely.  Nobody's missed it.

I see you're new here. Yes, this is a topic discussed many...

many...

many times before. This thread degenerates into a hot sauce competition because of it. (Long story.)

But thanks for the contribution regardless. Least you're thinkin'.

Oh dear. Did I :whoosh: miss the intra-board play there, or something?

Or even a criticism of the board, perhaps? Hmm...

My league has made it a team position, just like our qb and def positions.  Does not get rid of all problems but simplifies an always problematic position.

Apparently Vedvik is more likely to supplant the punter than Bailey. The incumbent had on FG & one XP, the rookie kicked one XP and went 3-46.7. Supposedly he’s also gonna be the holder, but they had the current punter hold on all the PK attempts.

Weird situation. You’d think they would make a decision & give Bailey & the long snapper more practice with the new guy before the season opener.

Lot of aging but great name brand kickers still around this year.

Also a lot of up and comers whose ADP seem to be continually creeping up (well, to the extent that Kicker ADPs show that much movement, anyway).

Wondering if it is better to rely on an old (in all senses of the word) stalwart like Gostoski, Vinatieri, or even Tucker and Elliott rather than some of these younger guys who are likely there too on potentially just as (if not more) favorable kicker offenses like Fairbairn, Badgley, Tavecchio, or Myers.

That is weird. A 5th for a punter? I guess it gives them some flexibility. Blocking the Bears was probably part of it too.

I'd normally agree with you, but I'm beginning to think that a two-position specialist that's certain to occupy a starter's position on the pro squad is more valuable than a back-end fifth-round blind dart throw.

Fairbairn is going as about the #6 K. He finished #1 in my league last year, not seeing any huge dropoff this year.

I thought it was a bit odd that a team with a decent K was the one to trade for Vedvik, as well. If I were them I'd cut Bailey, as decent as he's been, and let Vedvik do both duties, so as to free up a roster spot at another area.

Or maybe they could trade Bailey for a 6th or 7th...

Adam Vinatieri (knee) expects to return to practice this week.

Vinatieri has missed the last two preseason games. Undrafted rookie Cole Hedlund has been filling in for Vinatieri, showcasing himself well for other teams after making 4-of-5 field goals. Vinatieri should play in Indy's dress rehearsal Saturday with Chicago.

The Atlanta kicker might have the best kicker schedule in history. I drafted him and pray he figures it out. Look at that schedule!

Indoor or good weather the whole way

Pardon me if this was already mentioned

14th adp, could literally be your final draft pick.

NFL preseason Week 3 takeaways: O Canada, land of the shortened field

Excerpt:

The Falcons appear to have a kicking problem. Giorgio Tavecchio, whom the team turned the kicking duties over to after saying goodbye to reliable Matt Bryant, missed a 39-yarder on his first attempt against the Redskins on Thursday night. It might not have been such a concern had Tavecchio not missed two from 52 yards against the New York Jets last week, one of which was blocked and the other which sailed wide left. Tavecchio, who also missed a 54-yarder short in the Hall Fame Game against Denver, took ownership for the misses against the Jets and vowed to correct the problem. It's fair to wonder if it's worth bringing the 44-year-old Bryant back for one last run after he made 20 of 21 field goals last season, including a season-long, 57-yarder. Tavecchio is due to make $645,000 this season. Bryant made $3.5 million total last season with a base salary of $1.1 million. Folks around the league expect Bryant to be on some team's roster after Week 1, since the veteran's salary in Week 1 would be fully guaranteed. Maybe the Falcons will revisit the possibility after the season-opener at Minnesota, if not addressed now. -- Vaughn McClure

3 Takeaways from Cleveland Browns training camp

Excerpt:

Kicking is still an issue

After some inconsistencies throughout the first two weeks of training camp, rookie Austin Seibert and second-year kicker Greg Joseph looked to have things figured out with successful slates of kicks with the Colts, but in the preseason game at Lucas Oil Stadium, both missed from 50 yards out.

In the training camp practices after returning from Indianapolis, Seibert and Joseph missed several kicks, including three of four from 50 yards or more on Monday.

“We need them to get their act right,” Kitchens said. “We are not looking to replace them right now. We are looking to get these guys better and continuing to get better. The process of evaluation and the process of judging them has not concluded yet. When it concludes, then we will make that decision.”

I actually love the kicker position it's just 1 more position I can win at fantasy football because so many are misled to believe the position is worthless and only take a kicker in your last round experts.  Thanks to all the people who feel this way and help me in my goal to win championships.

Ravens signed K Elliott Fry.

The Ravens have arguably the league's best kicker in Justin Tucker, so Fry's stay in Baltimore figures to be a short one. He'll use Thursday's preseason finale against Washington as an audition for teams in need of kicker assistance. Fry was brought in to compete for the Bears' starting job this offseason, but finished runner-up to Eddie Pineiro.

So what going on with Vedvick?  I drafted him base don the advice here, and now it looks like he might be out of a job.
I don’t think anyone knows but clearly the HC was disappointed with the last game. But a week or two ago it seemed like Bailey was safe but Vedvick would replace the punter (& holder.)

Now?

So I drafted Tavecchio knowing ATL kicker has a cake schedule (mostly domes) on a high powered offense.

But looks like Tavecchio has the yips and Blair Walsh isn’t an improvement.

Do you roll the dice on the eventual starter or cut bait altogether?

Week one I usually give my final pick one chance to do something good before cutting him.

While others are wasting early picks on Zeuerlein and Tucker, I think you can wait until the very end and grab pro bowl kickers such as Jason Myers or Robbie Gould. I particularly like Myers this year. He has a big leg. Coming off a monster year. Seahawks D has several injuries/starters missing, which theoretically will lead to higher scoring games. As for Gould, he is rock solid, and the Niners have always seemed to have had difficulties finishing off drives for TDs (especially under Shanahan).
