Last night on a whim I went downtown had a few cocktails and bought a ticket for Puddles. It was ok but he is much better on youtube. He did a lot of crowd stuff.  I would not go out of my way for it but if he is around your area its good for a goof.

Puddles Pity Party

Looks awesome
It was! Beautiful night at the Bowl. Highlights

Sturgill Simpson stole the show. First time I’ve seen him. Can’t always make out the lyrics but great tone and he SHREDS on the guitar. Huge sound from a 4 person band. Huge fan now.

Deadheads were in full force for Phil Lesh and Friends  Added bonus was Jackie Greene was one of the friends  Started with Althea.   Sugaree was fantastic

Stayed for 4 songs of Willie’s  Still spry and can sing. His son Lukas though, wow - killed it

Have seen Sturgill and Margo.

Sturgill show was awesome.

Margo has a great voice.

Grabbed Tix for Jeff Lynne/ELO in Tampa next July. Great seats too. Can't wait, Lynne has been on my list for quite  a while.

How was that?  I was at the Elton John show the same night.  Always liked Social D, never got a chance to see them though
great show but they didn't play long enough, about 1:20.  got a little workout playing the sideline for a mosh pit a foot to the right of me.  ears were still ringing 2 days later

Greta Van Fleet would be awesome. Closest thing to Zep I’ve heard. They sold out quickly here so didn’t get chance to see them live.

Saw Thomas Rhett last night at the Forum. Midland and Brett Young opened. Rhett was very good. Fun show.

I saw The Record Company last night. They were very good and I recommend seeing them if you have the chance. They are heavy heavy heavy on the bass. The bass player was fantastic and I understand why he is featured so much. They really brought it. He mentioned at the end of the show that unknown to them Bob Seger was in the crowd at one of their  shows. After seeing the show Seger asked them to open for him.

My one complaint it is was a Wednesday night which sucks for getting up for work on Thursday. it was worth it though.

Saw Idles on Monday night and was just blown away. Never had heard of them before this week until a friend invited me out. British working-class kind of punk that sounded great and has lyrics that covers a broad range of topics and emotions. Loved some of the messages in them  - "If someone talked to you the way you talk to you, I'd put their teeth through - Love yourself!" Don't get me wrong - there is definitely some of the dark stuff in there - but some positive stuff to balance it out as well.

These guys are fantastic live, especially in a small venue. The frontman is really intense and brings it.  Highly recommended.

Looks like a few dates left on their West Coast tour -

10/5 Portland

10/6 Seattle

10/8 - SF

10/10 LA

10/12 - Perris, CA "Desert Daze"
I reacted to your idles post in the 2018 music thread... but really jealous you got to see them live. I'm a big fan, but have only seen them live on youtube. and it's interesting- I've watched a few of their shows at festivals, where its clear most of the people in the audience don't really know them.... start off disinterested, and very quickly get sucked in by the show and music- and by the end are rocking out with the band... a lot like it sounds like happened with you. the singer is hit or miss for a lot of people- but I love his approach and on-stage presence. also really dig the two guitarists who combine to create sounds I'm not used to hearing- and always working off each other. I'm not a big fan of the rhythm section's stage presence... but they don't detract.

they've been dealing with 'toxic-masculinity', immigration, equality, and generally positive stuff for the last two records (which are my favorite records of each year). their last record was written after the death of lead singer's mom, and it's got some thumpers on it. on this record even wrote a song about the still-birth death of the lead singer's baby (which I can't listen to... brutal... and they've said they'll never perform)... but mostly stick with the other, more positive stuff... including the message of the century- never fight a man with a perm.

just got a pre-sale info through spotify for their return trip to the states in may or june... I'm going to get tickets fo sho.

with my tinnitus and curmudgeonitis, I don't really see many shows any more... other than Floppinho's.

but friends of ours kid is in a band called Pinky Pinky, based out of LA. part of the psych revival... we're going to see them tomorrow in brooklyn and some brooklyn kind of place :-)shakesfist,getoffmylawnyoupunkkids:). I loved their first EP when they were still HS kids. now that they're more "professional" and touring, doing festivals etc, I've been less into their music. but should be fun- nice family.

spotify let me know about the show yesterday, because google listens in to everything... and it turns out BRONCHO is the headliner. I'll probably have to convince the wife to stay- but I'm pretty stoked to see them... even though their last two albums haven't been so hot, the first album or two were pretty great.

eta: forgot- I'm also seeing Floppinho perform for the first time with the percussion ensemble at his new school (special music school, here in NYC) on Saturday. I have no idea what they'll be playing- instrument or genre-wise, but I know the other kids are pretty impressive musicians. floppinho too.

Very excited for Jim James solo on Saturday night.  Seen him with a backing band twice before, and of course with My Morning Jacket who should be back on the road next year, so this should be a great show in a cool little venue.

I forgot to mention that I tried some Eargasm Earplugs at the show Wednesday night. I give them a thumbs up. I could still hear the music really well but my ears were not hurting or ringing anymore then typical. I have a pretty constant tinnitus due to a history of abusing my ears. This is why I wanted to try these earplugs.

Where'd you get them?

I’m seeing David Byrne shortly.  The opening band was interesting.  Tune Yards.

ETA:  David Byrne was freaking amazing.  This was the most unique show I’ve ever seen.  So much going on with all the performers on stage and highly entertaining.  They did 4 Talking Heads tunes and the rest was his solo stuff.  So awesome.  So glad I paid a little more to go to this show.  Totally worth it.
Saw him at ACL and unfortunately it was only an hour. I echo your thoughts exactly. He was ####### AWESOME and so unique. The band was kind of lined up like a marching band, carrying their own instruments around the stage. So great.

Seeing Simple Minds tonight.  They’re another one of those bands I never thought I’d never see live.  Took Mrs. O to Ed Sheeran the other night.  He’s pretty talented, but just not my thing.  Snow Patrol was decent.

We apparently have similar tastes in music. They were in Austin a few weeks ago and, unfortunately, I had guests in town so I couldn't go.

I'm surprised they are still together. Curious to see how they will be.

have fun guys- I remember seeing them back innaday... and maybe it was the night, but felt like it was the worst show I had ever seen. especially after opener, shriekback, brought the house down. felt like they just didn't have the personality or presence or interest to hold a bigger stage. they also focused on their recent album at the time, which I didnt like (around the time don't you forget about me came out), instead of their earlier albums which I really liked.

Shriekback would have been awesome to see.

If you’re ever interested in my music collection, let me know.  I have it all on ftp.  You too @El Floppo

and it's funny considering how overt they were, but I was oblivious to the religious stuff. I mean... it wasn't subtle. at some point in college I looked back and   . didn't even need to listen to the lyrics- right there in the album and song titles. also didn't matter- still good stuff.

sunnava...

I check online to see info about the show for tonight- says its sold out. text the wife to make sure we got tickets... nope. "I assume we can still buy them at the door".

checking with our friends to see if there are any friends&family lists we can get added to. first live music that isn't my son in ... years. baby-sitter and everything.

Went to the venue and talked our way in. The place is tiny! Probably 100 people max... Likely less. Bushwick.

Pinky Pinky were great- super tight and it was hard for me not to project floppinho into the band and feel parentally proud of them. Talked with them before the show...forgot that they're teenagers. Singing drummer who stage presence-wise carries the band. Our friends kid plays bass and is awesome (as is the guitarist) but hasn't figured out the performing thing yet other than standing in a corner and looking at the instrument or up at the ceiling.

Wife got hammered and had to leave about four songs into BRONCHO, who tbh sounded good but kinda blurry. I guess that Coulda been me. Bummed not to see some of the better tunes from earlier records, but left after the best tune on the new album, Sandman (just drafted it in supahflex leeeg). I recorded the first song in the set, will try to load it up. Surprised to see them in such a small space. Woulda been fun to rock out for the whole set...stoopit lightweight wife.

Simple Minds was pretty good last night.  They did 2 sets with a small break in between.  Great stage presence and a lot of jokes.  Scottish humor.  Think I’m going to take Mrs. O to see the Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas show here in a few weeks.

Picked up two seats for Garth Brooks in Glendale. He is playing where the Arizona Cardinals play. I am not to sure of our seats. They are definitely side stage but they may be closer to back then front

I much prefer seeing bands in a smaller venue but every once in a while a huge arena even has its place. Garth Brooks would be one of those.

Charlie Parr has really come into his own. If you like raw minimalist folk music, great guitar, great singer-songwriter stuff, try to catch his tour.  He added a bass player, which is the first time I've ever seen anyone else on stage with him, but otherwise the same show he's been doing for years.

I saw Los Lobos Friday night.  I've had numerous chances over the last 30 years but never was able to make a show.  Man, they are old and fat but can rock.  I was in the second row, so great up-close view, but main house speakers were right above us and the vocals went over our heads.  It was a casino show, so shorter than usual, but I loved it.  I am singing songs in Spanish and I have no idea what the lyrics mean (Chuco's Cumbia, for instance).

April 28: Houston, TX@ NRG Stadium
May 7: Glendale, AZ @ State Farm Stadium
May 11: Pasadena, CA @ The Rose Bowl
May 18: Santa Clara, CA @ Levi’s Stadium
May 22: Seattle, WA @ CenturyLink Field
May 26: Denver, CO @ Broncos Stadium at Mile High

June 4: Philadelphia, PA @ Lincoln Financial Field

June 13: East Rutherford, NJ @ MetLife Stadium

Even at 70+ years old, with Mick Jagger wringing over dollar out of every appearance, the Stones are as punk rock as any musical act alive. Charlie Watts is 78. And still Charlie ####### Watts. Cannot wait. Though I can't abide FedEx Field and might have to go elsewhere to see them. Such a horrid venue for football, never mind something special like the Stones.

Presale for May 11th show is next Wednesday.  Going.  Saw them for the first time in Las Vegas in 2016

I'm going to see Elton in March and I'm already expecting to be underwhelmed.  No fault of the guy he's a million years old, should I expect the same from the Stones?

Joe Perry just cancelled his tour.  Bummed.  Had tickets at the Canyon Club.  In a 10 day span I think coming up I have Jonny Lang, George Strait, Brooks and Dunn, Robert Cray and Fleetwood Mac.  And then Gin Blossoms the following weekend (Canyon Club - go to a lot of those shows)
