I know how much #### Dave Matthews fans get around here, but my wife loves him. Me less so, but I've always enjoyed his shows. Anyway we've got 3 Dave & Tim Reynolds acoustic shows on the beach here later this week. Barcelo resort in Riviera Maya.

So this was a ####### amazing experience from start to finish. The venue couldn't be in a nicer setting and you've got servers walking around with trays of drinks. I had a backpack with a big drink sleeve, so one waiter brought me a bottle of wine to keep in there for the show. The crowd was big but not insane, I'd guess maybe 8-10k? Rumors already that they're coming back next year and we're absolutely going back if they do.

Phish has done it the past two years and I think last month they had a big country bonanza with Luke Bryan and some other artists. Given the positive word of mouth, expect more artists to do it in the future. I'd highly recommend it if someone you like plays there. It's unbelievable.

Officially secured floor wristbands for sold-out Rock on the Range this morning, May 19-21 in Columbus. Metallica headlining Sunday night the 21st...Soundgarden/Live/Bush (what year is it?) with Chevelle/Gojira/Sum 41 among others on Friday the 19th...Korn/Offspring/Papa Roach/Seether among others on Saturday the 20th. Other bands on Sunday before Metallica include Volbeat, The Pretty Reckless, and Primus.

After that, locked up PIT tickets for Korn/Stone Sour/Skillet/Yelawolf/DED on August 1 at Riverbend in Cincy, with Stone Sour meet and greet add on. Wife is gonna flip about meeting Corey Taylor.

We were lucky last summer to get one of the few Stapleton/Isbell shed shows here on the East Coast last year.

I did whiff on catching Stapleton OPEN for Isbell at the Ryman back in 2014, but I was buying tix resale as I missed the onsale.

Also missed Sturgill Simpson opening for Isbell at the same venue in 2015.  No offense to "Hooray for the Riff Raff" and their fans, but I picked the wrong opener on the four night run for when I did hit the box office on sale.

Huge regret not seeing him at Santa Barbara Bowl last year.  Praying that he's opening for Petty on his west coast swing. I joined the fan club just to get tickets to the show, but no dates/cities yet.  Whiskey and You is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard.

Honestly, I think Stapleton may have the best voice of any singer performing today, regardless of genre.  Maybe he and Adele are 1a and 1b.  I was blown away at what he was doing vocally.

Amazingly, he was playing to a crowd of 72,000 people and it somehow still felt intimate.  He and his wife face each other on stage and they pretty much sang to each other for the entire set.  It was odd, but it really worked.

What no love for murder ballads? I like them when I listen when I decide to  but live it's a bit much to take for nearly a whole set.

I had friends at Dave & Tim, and they raved.  Also friends at Phish and Panic, and to a person everyone swore they were going back next year.  I'd love to go to any of those 3, but my kids are currently too young.  The entire getaway seems awesome.

I bought the 3 day Joe Russo's Almost Dead webcast for this wkend.  Last night was night one - these guys are as good as it gets on the jam band scene, and of course they are playing quite possibly the greatest catalog in rock history.  Highly, highly recommended if they are in your area, or if you're interested in couch tour:  http://nugs.tv/

Bought tickets for Depeche Mode this summer. Going to see them twice - once in Detroit and once in Austin. Tickets are cheap - like $25-30 for lawn.

Jealous.

Looks like nose bleeds are 150 at the garden in NYC.

I still plan on going.

Seen them 3 times and always enjoy them.

I wanna take my 11 year old daughter. My wife thinks it's completely inappropriate. She's the nutty one, right?

Agree that a stadium show would be a non-starter (unless there was a firesale on the resell market).

And for reference, my "not a must see" comment would be applicable if someone had already seen him and was considering seeing him another time.  Still worthwhile to catch him for the 1st time if you are a fan, but agree that I would not want that to be a stadium/festival show.

I have seen him a few times.  They were always a fun night but nothing special.  Elton John on the other hand brought it every single time I saw him.  When they played together, Elton dominated imo.

Clapton cancels both LA shows this weekend.  Bummed - we had 6 couples doing it up right - limo, cocktails and dinner in Playa del Rey, etc.  Bronchitis.  Rescheduled to a freakin' Monday in September.

I saw all these bands multiple times over the years. Tesla is always good but way under appreciated. They're not flashy and don't have a lot of personality. Their set was solid but not that noteworthy. Not many people knew their songs, so they mostly got ignored

Def Leppard has pretty much become a going through the motions band. They've played the same set night after night for pretty much two or three years straight. Apparently they think louder = more energy. Definitely seemed to me like they like they were only there for a paycheck and they certainly lacked the energy they had from back in the day.

Surprisingly, Poison blew the other bands off the stage. They had played together in around four years. Bret had health issues a few years ago and their drummer almost died from cancer. They put on a high energy, much more emotional show than the other bands. When I saw them in their hey day, they were more into being rock stars and being up chicks than the music.

At this point, Bret looks like he would play for free and is he feels lucky and blessed to be performing. After their set, he hung around to shake hands for 15 minutes and high five anyone that could get to the stage. They finally had to drag him away because they needed to set up for Def Leppard.

Overall, it was a decent nostalgia show. People that had many seen them before liked it. People that drank ten dollar beers liked it. All the bands were entertaining, but as headliners go, DL really hasn't changed anything over the last few years. If you saw them over the last few tours, you're pretty much going to get the same show.

Chili Peppers sucked out loud in Tampa a few nights ago. They alternate setlists every other night, and we got the crappy one without Snow, Higher Ground, Under the Bridge, Scar Tissue. Setlist aside, they didn't sound good at all. I wouldnt see them again, and if my GF didn't buy the tickets I wouldn't have went.

Intro Jam

Around the World

Dani California

The Zephyr Song

Dark Necessities

Hard to Concentrate

Me & My Friends

Sick Love

Don't Forget Me

Go Robot

Californication

What Is Soul? (Funkadelic cover)

Detroit

Suck My Kiss

Soul to Squeeze

By the Way

Encore:

I'll Be Back (Beatles cover)

Goodbye Angels

Give It Away

Thus far...I've seen:

Big Wreck, Uli Jon Roth,...and Neil deGrasse Tyson (last Tuesday...he was kinda rockstar-ish *shrugs*)...

As far as this spring/summer stands...I've purchased tickets for:

Petty/Walsh, JJ Grey & Mofro, Clutch/Primus, The Who/London Souls, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit/Iron & Wine, Ed Sheeran/James Blunt

On da fence:

Joe Bonamassa, The Magpie Salute or Melvins (same night...different venues), Punch Brothers

Nothing on the docket for fall/winter...yet...

Justin Townes Earle was good but I wish he played longer. There were also a lot of songs I wanted to hear that he did not play. We got 3-4 songs off his new album which comes out this month. He has the Sadies (?) open for him and as his back up band. They are decent as well.

I would go again but I would hope he would play longer. I am not sure how long he played but I feel like it was under 90 mins. He has so many great songs I would expect him to do 2hrs +

Got tix for Slightly Stoopid in June and Sturgill Simpson in September.

Will probably pick some up for Punch Brothers (with I'm With Her), Shovels and Rope (they are actually opening for St. Paul And The Broken Bones), Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, and Tedeschi Trucks Band (The Wood Brothers opening).

I love Sturgill Simpson and his show I saw was awesome.  I know his guitarist left and struck out on his own. It will be interesting to see how the band is now. That guitarist was really good and there was lots of chemistry. I was sad when I heard he left.
