More on the Trent Williams' health: The #Redskins LT passed all parts of his physical, the team told his agent. Then he tried on a helmet and reported pain from surgery, which they are considering part of the physical. The team has 2 weeks to find a helmet that doesn’t hurt him.

If the Redskins can’t find a helmet that doesn’t give Trent Williams pain by the time his roster exemption expires, the options are: He plays in pain or the team puts him on NFI (which means they can choose to pay him or not). Either way, his contract won’t toll.

i'm confused a little about what's going on here. It seems both sides are playing games. What are both sides trying to accomplish, is it just fiscal at this point?

Let's review where we are. The Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup not too long ago. The Washington Senators Nationals just won the World Series. The Washington Redskins are 1-7 with no real starting QB, with their best player refusing to play, and with an owner and front office who think they're doing well.

#### the Redskins owner and front office.

If I were a Redskin fan I'd be trying to start a movement on social media to put pressure on the league to force a name change. If Snyder insists on keeping the name maybe the league can push him out. Donald Sterling was forced out of the NBA for sounding like a racist, so it can happen. Jerry Richardson was forced out of CAR not that long ago.

If they were able to change the name AND get a new owner...... it might be the best season by the team in over a decade no matter what their record says.

You left out the Bullet/Wizards, who have one division crown since their last title, which came a full 14 years more recently than the Bullet title.

Washington fanbase is no stranger to extended sports misery.

But today is a day to celebrate the baseball team!

Mystics (WNBA) also won a title.....like this month in fact.  And a little down the road (but towards where I am) UVA just won a NCAA title.

No one ever includes the MLS team, which was the Patriots of that league for a long time.

Most successful sports team in DC history, with the possible exception of Georgetown basketball.

I hope Haskins starts this weekend and balls out, throws 350+ yards, 3 TDs and no TOs in a losing effort. ;)  Yes this franchise sucks thanks Dan!!!

Congrats, @fatness...that weird feeling? Years ago I had a moment that I ruminated about for quite some time until I determined it could best be described as enlightenment...Congratulations, and welcome to the world I've inhabited for the better part of the last 20 years...sorry it took you (and others) so long to join me in this reality-based dark, yet wonderful, place...there's been an overwhelming amount of squadered time, energy and effort exerted in these Threads, unfortunately, but I completely accept the idea that everyone reaches the same conclusion in their own time and at their own pace.

There is only one way to rid oneself of a pestilence:  Burn it. Burn it all. To the Ground...and salt the earth behind you.

My hatred of Dan and Bruce is bitter and runs deep, and I embrace any disgrace that would result in a seismic change at the top of the organizational chart...

...I am an ardent fan of this Team, and fully accept the outcome that posits for things to get worse...in order for things to get better.

Try this on for size: I believe with all my heart that Bruce Allen, self-serving, self-righteous ##### that he is...actually rooted for the Astros in the World Series, because somewhere in that dismal abyss of self-awareness he calls a conscience, he had at least a clue of how much of a finger a Nationals World Championship would compound what the Caps and Mystics have already served to point multiple fingers at the Redskins/him for the results the last 2 decades have produced, particularly those under his watch...

...#### Dan and Bruce, indeed.

This won't shock a single Redskins fan...just pitiful...

The Browns are reportedly incensed with how the Redskins braintrust handled talks, claiming that they had a settlement in place for Williams over a month ago.

.@CharlesRobinson on Yahoo! Sports NFL Podcast “The Cleveland #Browns are furious w/ the Washington Redskins over Trent Williams.” Says 6 wks ago, Redskins could’ve had 1st rd pk for Williams from CLE. WASH waited 6 wks, CLE basically said “kiss my ###, you’re not calling me now”

Can Cleveland get him for cheaper this offseason?  Assuming he can actually play.

Shocker.  Is there any player, coach, fan, or other team that actually likes Bruce Allen?  Snyder sucks.  Bruce Allen is 1000x worse.

With CLE's record, that pick is probably a top 10 pick choice.  So the GM of a 1-7 team would rather have an expensive aging veteran sit on the bench, on IR, or at home rather than have a top 10 pick in the 2020 draft.  F'in idiot.

ETA: Am I wrong to assume that Allen has Snyder so tucked into his pocket that Snyder doesn't even know how much everyone hates Allen?  I have a feeling that between his planes, helicopters, and limos, Snyder's head is so buried in the sand he doesn't even know how loathed Allen is.

I think he has to know. Every time the Redskins tweet about anything, 90% of the comments are negative. Every other sports franchise in town has positive vibes around them. There is no positivity around the Redskins. He has to see that, right?

Wow.  Trent Williams had an 18 minute presser regarding his situation.  Turns out he had a tumor that the Redskins medical staff misdiagnosed as a cyst for six years.  When he finally got the cancer diagnosis a doctor told him to "get his affairs in order" and that it was very possible he could die.  Had multiple surgeries to completely remove the tumor, the last one in June.  Will have to do follow ups every 6 months to check if the cancer returns.

When asked if his relationship with Bruce could ever be repaired he answered "Next question".  Says he has no trust in the organization but specifically said none of it was Snyder's fault.  He's putting this all on Bruce.

Wow. Just keeps getting worse for Bruce. Maybe just maybe this puts enough pressure on Snyder to fire him after the season?

Imagine the sudden fear when he heard from the doc to get his affairs in order. I don't blame him for being angry forever at the Skins for their misdiagnosis.

Dan isn't doing the tweeting.  Dan isn't on message boards.  Dan isn't even at press conferences.  I honestly think the only thing he sees are the team record, the empty stadium, and probably still great profits.  Bruce is there all the time telling him "if we only had a better coach, if we only had a QB, if we only had a stadium in DC or VA, if, if..."  Deflecting the blame to others.

I've said this before, but my friend was Dan's Controller for a while at a different company.  So the only person between this person and Dan was the CFO.  This person was not allowed to talk to him - on the elevator, in meetings, anywhere.  They were told not to even make eye contact  I'm guessing most of the ultra rich aren't a-holes, but when the are, they have to be oblivious to what is going on below them.  I think that's where Dan is.  Oblivious, and the only hope he gets the message are empty stadium and abysmal record.  Cause Bruce has manipulated him year after year.

It wasn't until he had a cancer scare that he wanted to end his relationship with the organization. Williams said he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP). Williams said doctors told him the growth was removed only weeks before it would have reached his skull. And, he said, doctors told him to get his affairs in order. Williams said when he said goodbye to his daughters -- ages 9 and 5 -- before surgery he did not know if they'd see him again.

"It was cancer. I had a tumor removed from my skull -- attached to my skull -- it got pretty serious for a second," Williams said. "I was told some scary things from the doctors. It was definitely nothing to play with. It was one of those things that will change your outlook on life."

Williams said he first asked the Redskins' medical staff about the growth on his head six years ago, but he said nothing was done until this offseason.

Quote

Williams asserts that he was told the lump was "something minor."

"... I mean the lump continued to grow over the years. It was concerning, but there was no pain involved, and if I'm being told by the very people I put my career in the hands of, people are telling me I'm fine, I'm fine," he said. "That's how I looked at it."

After his 18-minute interview session with reporters at his locker, Williams said he even told doctors to remove the growth during previous surgeries on his knee and his thumb.

But it wasn't until this offseason when Redskins doctors examined him and told him to go to a specialist.

"They kind of underestimated it, and it was far more advanced than they realized, and I don't think they realized how long it was there," Williams said.

From there, he flew on owner Dan Snyder's plane to Chicago for further examination. That's where he had the surgery in the winter. Williams said he needed 350 stitches and 75 staples on his head; the diameter of the incision was about that of a softball.

"We literally caught it within weeks of metastasizing through to my brain to my skull," Williams said. "Extracting it was the only thing they could do. Doing radiology on it would have put a cap on my life. I think 15 years was the most I would have had after I started chemo. So I had to cut it out."

That was a lot to read but it is worth it.

If that is accurate, and I have no reason to think it isn't based on the win totals for each franchise over the past decade or so, it really underscores just how ego was out of control on BOTH sides. Idiotic for WAS to pass up a 1st(maybe a high 1st with CLE being 2-5) and idiotic for CLE to pass up a bodyguard for Mayfield. This is how bad teams stay bad. When Williams didn't get traded I assumed the offers were much lower than a 1st due to Williams age, salary, and some suspension history. If true Bruce should get crucified for this in the national media.

It is not clear what anyone offered the Redskins at the trade deadline.  The posts here say the Browns offered a 1st round pick 6 weeks ago.  Apparently the Redskins never negotiated with the Browns.

One interesting thought.  I think this was on PFT.  Snyder has to keep Allen around.  He is like a pin cushion, and he prevents Snyder from getting poked.  Without Allen, the ire of the fans would turn to Snyder.  The article also said Goodell, who is quite unpopular, is a pin cushion for the owners, so they keep him around too.

I still believe the only way for Allen to go is to have a hiring cycle similar to Zorn's hiring.  If the Redskins can't/don't hire Kevin O'Connell, they may have a situation where everyone turns down the job.

You may be right, and if you are, what does that say about Bruce Allen, that he wants to stay in a job and be hated so his boss isn't (or is but less so than he would be)

Well like I said in the passage I quoted if...... "CLE basically said “kiss my ###, you’re not calling me now”...... IS TRUE, then it was a bad move on the part of CLE. I'm not sure if WAS "negotiated" with the Browns but if at some point they were willing to accept the offer that had been sitting there for 6 weeks then I'm not sure I'd identify that as negotiating.

According to Rotoworld, "That's probably because the Redskins aren't actually interested in moving Williams, with NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reporting they are making ludicrous demands like CB Denzel Ward."..... which would lead to me there may have been negotiations going on at some point, even if it was last minute. Most reports seem to say they were 'listening' at the deadline... but I have a hard time believing CLE was the one to bring up the name of Denzel Ward.

It is pretty idiotic that the Redskins wanted an impact player in return.  They really need players to develop, so that makes draft picks much more desirable than other players.

I saw somewhere else (Jerry Brewer maybe) that the Redskins received an offer for Adrian Peterson.  He never said what it was, but I find it hard to believe the Redskins did not jump on that.  The article mentioned that most likely, Peterson will play a max of another 8 games with the Redskins.

Doubt it, but will ask anyway.....

Is it possible that the Redskins didn't trade (or attempt to trade) Williams because they knew he had cancer, and no other teams did?  Maybe they didn't want to knowingly trade him for that amount having no idea of his desire, or even ability, to actually play the game anymore?

Or am I giving them way too much credit for actually being compassionate?

Other teams would have known about the cancer because it would have come up in his physical exam (Williams would have told them). It's possible that other teams would have offered less for him when they knew. As for the front office's motives, I usually go with "malice" and "terrible judgement" and that seems to cover almost everything they do.

From reading between the lines it seems that this situation is entirely the doing of Allen, who has more than likely been spinning a yarn to Snyder about how the situation had been progressing.

The only silver lining to all this is if there is enough national sympathy towards Trent's stance vs the team that Snyder feels compelled to move on from Allen.

That depends a great deal on press coverage this weekend and next week. There's a link to Trent's story on CNN's front page today, so there's hope.

Right, so knowing it would never happen - they never pursued it further.  And in doing so kept the cancer diagnosis a secret for Trent.

Yeah one of the beat reporters made a comment on the radio earlier this morning about how this is becoming a larger story nationwide. If there is enough exposure to this story where Snyder can't insulate himself, then just maybe it can sow some doubt in his head about his partner in crime.

Looks like Haskins is starting.  Curious to see what he looks like after a week of reps with the 1st team.  Will be rough against the Bills tho.

I'm not sure I'm following you. It seems like you're saying they were doing Trent Williams a favor.

Follow this team for a long time and you'll know damn well that's not true. Bruce Allen is a vindictive, malicious SOB with terrible judgement.

But perhaps I'm not following you correctly.

Haskins playing ok.  Amazing what finally getting reps with the 1s can do.  Please let him get the work and learning he needs and keep him as the starter.  I dont see him lighting it up. But he needs to learn.  Cant evaluate him tossing him in with no plan or practice.
