DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (1 Viewer)

For my 20th round picks...

2000 - Babylon - David Gray

2005 - I'm Feeling You - Santana (ft. Michelle Branch and The Wreckers)

Sniped by sn0mm1s earlier today, forced to go with another of the union of Santana and M. Branch. Luckily I have a large unfinished hole in the early 2000s that allowed this to happen with no problem!!

This is in the reggae aisle but it's about as poppy as you can get.  It was written and produced by Stevie Wonder.  Fills my Mrs. Eephus dance theme because she   this song.
21 . 5  Try Jah Love - Third World 1982

I'm moving Amy Winehouse to 2007 which proved to be a tough year for me.  Lupe skates into the vacant 2006 spot
21 . 5  Kick Push - Lupe Fiasco 2006

21.23 - Long Distance Runaround, Yes (1972)

This link has The Fish added as they are often combined.  Not sure what is on Spotify yet.  Going with the 1972 US release date.

21.23 - Mr. Brightside, The Killers (2004)

Yeah, way overplayed, but I still like it.

Time to fill out those early years.

Round 21

The Crazy World of Arthur BrownFire (1968)

I AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE AND I BRING YOU -

The SpinnersIt's a Shame (1970)

Spinners song is so much fun. Love "I'll Be Around" too, but this one's my favorite from them. Great, great vocals.

21A: "Hot Rod Lincoln" - Commander Cody & His Lot Planet Airmen (1971)

21B: "Hair Of The Dog" - Nazareth (1975)

21a - The Devil Dogs - Sweet Like Wine - 1993 - Saturday Night Fever

21b - MC5 -  Come Together - 1969 - Kick Out The Jams

Back to rockism. Two straight bombtracks, one from the Devil Dogs off of the label Sympathy For The Record Industry. A fake "live" album, but with all the energy regardless. Sort of a sweet track, and the favorite of an ex-girlfriend of mine. The whole album and another one off a different label vied for the best for in my world back in '93. MC5's track is a proto-punk track, a live take off a classic album I'm sure you've all heard. I went with a deeper cut and stuck with the macho love theme. Could substitute out for another track off of this album as a mulligan at the end of the draft, but it depends on my mood.

Let's finish today off with some hip hop classics that my young, just turned 21 self would play at the bar jukebox. ..

21.x

I've seen this band live more than any other. So many great options, but this is the direction I was leaning at the moment...

1999-  The Roots ft/ Erykah Badu  You Got Me

21.x

What I love about The Roots is that they are clearly hip-hop, but have never been confined by what hop hop is supposed to be. This group (probably the best rap group of all time), certainly never follow conventions.

1998 Outkast    SpottieOttieDopalicious

So I used to be able to copy text from my excel file and it would have all the url formatting work on the old board. I could just type the and text and it would work.

Anybody know how to do that now without clicking on the link icon?

I do most of my posting on my phone and don't want to have to hand type all the YouTube links. I used to email all the text to my phone and copy it in here.

Thanks.

Awesome. The url code works when I type it but not when I paste it in.

I'm about to add my recent picks to the spreadsheet (post: Flagpole Sitta pick). Somebody hold my beer, and say a prayer for the spreadsheet.

dont care if I clear the bar out. need some chuck

20.02 Death - The Philosopher 1993

20.02 Bobby Womack - Across 110th Street 1972

21.29 Mastodon - Oblivion 2009

21.29 Elbow - My Sad Captains 2014
What's going to clear out bars quicker - Death or tim's picks?

That Death album has become one of my favorites now.  Always listened to metal, but I did have a cut off point of how hard/how much growling I could do.  There were a few bands that rekindled my love for metal in the 2000s after complaining there was no good new stuff out there - Mastodon is one (love that pick too), and you inspired me to take the other now with one of my picks.  Anyway, that got me listening to other stuff, pushing past my usual cutoff, and finally started listening to Death.  Just fantastic all around.  Love the pick.

Those are actually solid picks.

Edit:. Stupid board. Afternoon Delight was supposed to quoted too.
All of my picks are solid picks.

I really dont don't get the criticism. I could have chosen lousy songs, but instead I chose pop hits that I like to listen to, to hum and sing along. I love all kinds of music, including quite a bit of the avant-garde stuff many people have selected here. I love punk, folk, blues, rock, and lots of variations of the above.

But for some reason it has always been uncool to like top 40 hits, and especially songs which cater to casual music listeners and are designed to sell to the masses. I'm not embarrassed to admit that I love a lot of these songs and always have. I'm using this draft to offer some of my very favorites.

Now with more arithmetic and logic:

 1. Spreadsheet shows my round 14 is a honda of round 12. I'm not going to make any further edits to the spreadsheet, because my brain is in recovery mode at the moment, but I assume the correct maneuver is to delete the round 14 duplicates and move all the rest of my picks up.
 2. My sparse notes tell me I picked a 2003 song, but I did not jot down the song. It's very possible I did not pick a 2003 song, and for the moment I am going to run with that assumption. Search function revealed nothing as well, but that's irrelevant I'm sure.
So, beerithmetic says I've made 35 picks and owe 5 to get caught up. I'm going to devote the next little while to these five picks, leading off with 17.#2

Thanks KP.  Do you listen to Obscura? They are on my list to check out from fellow death fans.  I checked out on alot of metal in the 90s and jumped back in the same time you did. I have always loved death though and saw them a few times back in the day.  If the death to all tour comes back I highly recommend it.  Was one of the best shows ive seen.  Follow death dta tours on facebook.   YOu know Richard Christy the drummer on the last death album the sound of perseverance is a regular on Stern?

Great picks.  Stuck Between Stations is the other song I had for that year, and it was a tough choice.  I thought it would have been taken long ago.
That was the song I wanted the whole draft. The Hold Steady are a great bar band and are perfect for a jukebox like this. I forgot to actually draft it and feel lucky that it was still there. I have only done 1 other draft here before (recent Scarcity) and this is the only repeat. I took it for an interesting category, "reference to a sports team".

Ah, 1979.  Decision time.  Take the second Pat Benatar song from that year of take the second Joe Jackson song from that year?  I'm going with Joe, if only because it was at least from a different album.  Besides, I've never seen a Pat Benatar cover band live.

Joe Jackson -- I'm the Man -- 1979

A lot of Bowie has been taken, and I'm not going to claim it would be my #1 Bowie (God help me, I think I agree with Tim on Queen #####), but it's still pretty awesome and pretty much his farewell to glam.  Also, it's fun to pretend you're the Hamburglar and sing the chorus as "Robble Robble."

David Bowie -- Rebel Rebel -- 1974
