Somewhat concerned going forward -- once the refs start allowing mugging a WR or TE, it's pretty easy to stop them. That was the book on in-his-prime Jimmy Graham ... and when teams grabbed on him, he had no answer and just shrank from some games.

 
Cowboys just had a great defensive game plan last night.  The Saints have been explosive all year and will be explosive going forward.  You can't expect great numbers every week.  All great fantasy players have weeks they don't produce.  It's part of the fantasy game.

 
Michael Thomas (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday.

Thomas didn't show any ill effects in last week's loss to Dallas, seeing the field on 51 of the Saints' 52 offensive snaps. He may just be getting a breather, though obviously it's a situation fantasy owners will need to monitor closely throughout the week. Thomas went absolutely bonkers against the Buccaneers—his Week 14 opponent—when he faced them earlier this year, securing 16-of-17 targets for 180 yards and a touchdown in an opening-week loss.

And people will continue to panic after a pedestrian week or two. I’ve learned to ignore it. 

 
Another absolute dud. They don't lean on this guy like, say, Adams in GB, NO just have too many ways to win. MT hasn't had a double digit week in standard since week 11. Not good, can't bench him but hardly inspires confidence for FF bowl week.

he was pretty money in playoff week 14-15-16 and he killed the philly secondary. 

 
And he finished the regular season #1 in receptions, #6 in receiving yards and #9 in TDs and with the highest catch rate among receivers. Yes the Saints share the scoring more than some, but at least in ppr, there aren't many better.

 
Michael Thomas isn't worried about his contract.

Thomas is due an insanely reasonable $1.15 million in 2019, the final year of his rookie contract. Rather than cause a stir, Thomas, who led the NFL with a franchise record 125 catches last year, said he has no plans to hold out and is confident the Saints will take care of him when the time is right. "I feel pretty certain that everything will get taken care of and handled professionally," said the 26-year-old. "This is how I approach the game and how I show up to work the same way and everything else will take care of itself." Thomas could garner up to $20 million annually on his next contract, though the Saints may prefer to franchise-tag him in lieu of a new deal.

Saints GM Mickey Loomis said the team and Michael Thomas "had some conversations" about an extension.

"Yeah, listen, we’ve had some conversations, and I like keeping that close to the vest until there’s something to report," Loomis said. "Look, we love what Mike’s done for us. He’s a fantastic player, one of the best at his position in the league, and hopefully we can keep him as a Saint for a longtime as well." It's possible the Saints choose to franchise tag him in the offseason, but Thomas will likely land a contract upwards of $20 million annually when the smoke clears. Last year's league-leader in catches (125) is currently set to play 2019 on the final year of his rookie deal.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports the Saints are willing to make contract-year WR Michael Thomas the highest-paid wideout in the game.

Per Russini, the sides "are progressing" in long-term talks. That echoes what GM Mickey Loomis himself said on Monday. Giving Thomas a mega contract when Drew Brees is a year-to-year proposition comes with an element of risk, but there's not much debate that it's what the Saints must do if they want to keep him. Thomas is fifth in receiving yards (3,787) and first in receptions (321) since entering the league in 2016.

Updating a previous New Orleans Times-Picayune report, Michael Thomas is seeking $22 million per year.

The Saints are reportedly at $18 million annually. A contract should be coming eventually, but "nothing is imminent" with about four million separating the two sides. There are a few receivers waiting on new deals, so there may be a waiting game to see where the market settles for elite receivers. Thomas has the most receptions (321) since 2016, his first year in the league.

The only highly paid WR to win a SB I can recall is Demaryius in 2015, and he was an absolute liability that playoff run. When are teams going to stop paying this position?

 
Yahoo's Charles Robinson reports WR Michael Thomas wants to be the first $20-million-per-year wide receiver.

Thomas is currently scheduled to earn just $1.15 million in the final year of his rookie contract. Robinson reports the Saints have offered Thomas a contract in the $18-19 million range -- Odell Beckham is currently the highest-paid receiver at $18 million per year -- but Thomas wants to break the $20-million barrier. That might be more likely if he waits until Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, or Tyreek Hill sign their extension.

I can't blame him. He represents such a massive portion of their passing offense and the timing is perfect as the Saints know they are in the very final stages of their SB wndow.

I think that is purely a random data point. I don't think anyone can honestly argue the Saints without Thomas or the Falcons without Julio are going to carry on fine on offense. Speaking of Julio, was it his fault the Falcons didn't win the SB? Julio had 334 yards and 3 TDs in the 3 playoff games that year. And what do we considered highly paid vs not highly paid? Alshon won the SB and has a $52 million deal. 

Are there a lot of highly paid LTs that won a SB recently?  Okung was on his rookie deal still when he won with Seattle.

He should take a contract worth $18-19M per year if that has been offered. Unless they are Leveon Bell-style lowballing him on guaranteed money, that is a good offer.

I don't know the exact amount that makes sense but ofcourse it makes basic negotiating sense to ask for more than you would accept.

 
NFL Network's James Palmer reports there is "optimism" the Saints and holdout WR Michael Thomas will reach a deal "sooner rather than later."

Thomas is looking to become the highest-paid receiver in the league, an honor he probably deserves after catching 321 passes for 3,787 yards and 23 touchdowns through his first three seasons. If the two sides are truly close to a deal, it would seem the Saints are willing to make that kind of commitment. Assuming all of this gets worked out prior to Week 1, Thomas will be an elite WR1 for fantasy purposes.

Hard to imagine Thomas repeating his massively-lopsided percentage of target share among the WRs again. Have to think that Tra'Quan gets more involved and maybe Jared Cook carves a bigger chunk?

 
Michael Thomas caught 10-of-13 targets for 123 yards in the Saints' Week 1 win over the Texans Monday night.

Thomas and Drew Brees have possibly the easiest pitch-and-catch connection in football. Thomas is simply always open. He rarely makes plays deep, but Thomas' elite route-running and big body make him impossible to handle in the intermediate areas of the field and at the first-down markers. The only thing missing tonight was a touchdown. This stat line has just become routine for Thomas. He'll do battle with the Rams in L.A. next week. Thomas torched the Rams in their regular-season date last season.

Michael Thomas caught 10-of-13 targets for 89 yards in the Saints' Week 2 loss to the Rams.

The reception and target totals are exactly the same as last week, but the real story here is Drew Brees and the extent of his hand injury. Brees was uncomfortable picking up a football on the sideline, and he could be facing a serious throwing hand injury. When Teddy Bridgewater came in, he peppered Thomas with targets but his upside is obviously lowered if Brees misses time. A road matchup in Seattle next week makes matters worse, but Thomas has earned low-end WR1 status even if Brees is out.

Michael Thomas nabbed five catches for 54 yards and a touchdown on seven targets Sunday in the Saints’ Week 3 win over Seattle.

He managed a long gain of just 18 yards, which was probably to be expected with pop-armed Teddy Bridgewater (career 7.4 aDOT) under center. Thomas' touchdown, his first of the young season, came on a perfectly-executed "picket fence" play from a yard out. Only Chargers stud Keenan Allen has logged more catches (29) than Thomas (25) through the first three weeks. He'll remain a firm WR1 when the Cowboys visit in Week 4. Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth will have the call Sunday night on NBC.

Michael Thomas caught all night of his targets for 95 yards in Week 4 against Dallas.

Thomas was the only productive receiver for the Saints for the second straight week. He easily led the team in targets and accounted for half of Teddy Bridgewater’s yards. Through four weeks, Thomas is on pace for a 102/1,083/3 line. Bridgewater has been an obvious downgrade for Thomas, but the Saints should look to get him more red-zone looks moving forward.

Michael Thomas caught 11-of-13 targets for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints' Week 5 win over the Bucs.

The yards were the second most of Thomas' career. He found the pylon for score No. 1 and shed a pair of tackles on the second. Drew Brees' absence has yet to matter for the fourth-year pro, as he's now caught at least nine passes in three of the past four games. He has remained ridiculously efficient in the process, hauling in a whopping 45-of-55 targets so far this year. Thomas has proven to be one of the most matchup-proof players there is in fantasy football. The Jags and maybe Jalen Ramsey are on tap for Week 6.

Hopkins hasn't lived up to expectations so far this season (though he salvaged today in the second half), and OBJ hasn't lived up to expectations with Mayfield yet. Tyreek had the injury and the off-field risk. JuJu hasn't been what we expected. Evans is wildly inconsistent. AB went off the rails and is done, though he wasn't ranked at the top anymore anyways. Adams had been disappointing for a few games before an injury that could linger for a while.

MT is the easy dynasty WR1 right now, right? Even without Brees he's got a great floor and ceiling, and he's younger than Hopkins. 

 
Michael Thomas caught 9-of-11 targets for 131 yards in the Saints' Week 7 win over the Bears.

Thomas was virtually impossible to cover the entire afternoon, regularly utilizing pristine route-running ability to get open in the intermediate areas of the field. Teddy Bridgewater might not make a habit of stretching the field, but he’s proven to have solid chemistry with the Saints’ undisputed No. 1 WR. Thomas has caught at least five passes in every game this season while also clearing 80 receiving yards or finding the end zone. He’s locked in as a high-end WR1 despite next week’s tough matchup against Patrick Peterson.

Michael Thomas caught 11-of-11 targets for 112 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Week 8 win over the Cardinals.

Thomas had numerous catches in Patrick Peterson’s direct coverage. The Cardinals had their longtime stud CB shadow Thomas for most of the afternoon, but the Saints’ No. 1 WR displayed some crafty route running, mostly on slants, to win the matchup. Thomas’ touchdown came from nine yards and featured the stud WR carry Peterson into the end zone. Coach Sean Payton also helped Thomas out a bit by helping him escape Peterson’s shadow in the slot on 14 separate occasions. Continue to fire up Thomas as a high-end WR1 against the Falcons in Week 10 following the Saints’ Week 9 bye.

Now halfway through the season, Saints WR Michael Thomas is on pace for 146 catches, 1,750 receiving yards and 8 TD. That would be the most catches in a single season in NFL history. The man is unstoppable.

Michael Thomas caught 13-of-14 targets for 152 yards in the Saints' Week 10 loss to the Falcons.

Thomas was virtually impossible to guard throughout the afternoon, regularly getting free on slants and generally catching everything thrown his way. His 86 receptions are the most in NFL history through a team’s first nine games (per ESPN’s Field Yates). Thomas deserves to be in any conversation regarding the league’s very best WR at this point. He’s again set up to eat in Week 11 against the Buccaneers’ porous group of CBs.

I essentially traded Mahomes for him even up. Time will tell if I made the right move. It’s straight up best WR for best QB. Either one is a lot of fun to have.
