No way some record exec didn't strong arm them into doing the Walk This Way thing. It Did wonders for them, because they would have remained drug riddled hasbeens without that.Aerosmith. They were a legit rock band in the 70s, very underrated imo. First 2 albums after their comeback were decent, but after Pump they became a sellout toolbag power ballad doosh nozzle pile o' crap. And Tyler is just completely annoying.
When metallica sold "Fuel" to Fiat
Beer snobs and music geeks have quite a bit in common.I don't get the whining when people make money doing what they do for a living. If you leave your job for a higher paying job, are you selling out?
Same goes for when people whined when InBev bought Devil's Backbone. Instead of congratulating the owners for making a profit off their hard work, people cursed them. WTF?
Hear them on too many commercials, and they should have stopped touring as The Who after John died imho. The Who

I assumed he was talking about the albumHear them on too many commercials, and they should have stopped touring as The Who after John died imho.
Billy Joel - His old stuff (Piano Man, 52nd Street, the Stranger) is so good, but he sold his soul to marry Christie Brinkley and has been churning out tripe garbage ever since.
Gotta say though, don't you have to be cool first to sell out?I have a vague memory of seeing a box of children's cereal endorsed by Smash Mouth or one of those other lame bands (Barenaked Ladies maybe?) at the dollar store. They should have just boxed up their credibility and relevance put it in a clearance bin by the register.
Actually the blame lies with the public. So bands decided to use their talents to optimize earnings? The shame.
Both are awful to find yourself stuck in a conversation with.Beer snobs and music geeks have quite a bit in common.
Hate when ABI buys the "little" guys but I get completely why the founders sold. I would too, 10 times out of 10. What I don't like is when the big guys use these acquisitions to leverage shelf space at the detriment of the remaining little guys. Or when they "tinker" with operations in an effort to make $$. And I think that's why many if not most "cursed" the sale.I don't get the whining when people make money doing what they do for a living. This is like nominating Scarlett Johannson in the "Women I'm Oddly Attracted To" thread.Bruce Springsteen in a sense. Who gives a f**k what your political and moral beliefs are, shut up and play music.
The sold out very early on.Hear them on too many commercials, and they should have stopped touring as The Who after John died imho.

They don't "allow", they sell. Maybe its smart business but it is the definition of "selling out".Allowing good songs to be in commercials is not selling out.
I disagree. Radio only exists to sell advertising and I consider getting paid to put a song in an commercial no different than getting paid for a song to play on the radio. They don't "allow", they sell. Maybe its smart business but it is the definition of "selling out".
I think we're agreeing. I'm just pointing out that they aren't "allowing" and agency to use their songs, they're getting paid. I didn't say it was bad.I disagree.
