My house just lost all value, wife currently looking at houses (1 Viewer)

Aren't there zoning ordinances?  Urban Growth Boundary?  HOAs?  Nothing can stop them?  Man, I can't even cut down a tree on my own property without getting a permit from the county AND my HOA.  You guys back east don't have such measures? :ptts:

I'd like to discuss this. What's a reformed Jew? What evils are they reforming from? A reformed Catholic might be someone who was molested as an alter boy and no longer goes to church but still loves God and wants to enter heaven and simply doesn't practice by going to Sunday Services.
Reform, not reformed. It's one of the three primary segments of world Jewry: Reform (less strictly observant according to Biblical / Talmudic law), Conservative (in the middle, some keep kosher at home, some won't drive on shabbat), Orthodox (fully kosher, men/women sit separately at services). You then have the more extreme sects such as Lubovitch and Hasidic (wear the black garb and big hats, extreme in many views, insular in nature)

Even if they're doing illegal things?
Things like drugs and petty crimes usually don't happen. Their "illegal" stuff are all more subtle things that can be changed to legal with enough political pressure - zoning laws, districts, water rights, occupancy rules, stuff like that.

They will move in with such numbers that they control who is elected. HOA ordinances and zoning laws then change - legally according to local will.

I grew up close to where Acer is, and currently live a few exits up the thruway - definitely a horrible no-win situation for him. This is a serious issue for Rockland, Orange, and Sullivan counties.  The problem is this group votes as one block - no dissent. They've gotten districts realigned, and control every local politician, because to cross them is to lose office. While we fight about bathrooms and gun control and generally split 50/50, they vote as one for their own interests - smart, really.

The real downside is their communities. Disgusting isn't a strong enough word for it, and they are packed to the gills. They are also intolerant of outsiders living there. Acer will have to move, period.
Sound more like they know what they are doing and don't allow petty BS get in their way of the master plan...

In eastern Orange/Sullivan, they're going to have to start competing with Chinese nationals who are buying up land like crazy.

Kinda agree and disagree - I'd bet there are tons of tax, money laundering, and other financial criminal activities taking place... Law enforcement probably just wants nothing to do with them.

reminds me of when some conservatives fear that Muslim communities would practice Sharia Law here.

This is so weird
I don't know of muslim communities that seek to change local laws and ordinances to the detriment of non-muslims though, nor are they so insular (and aggressive) in nature.

have you reached out to Al "PIN THOSE YARMULKES BACK AND LET'S GET IT ON!!1!" Sharpton?

no one likes mixing it up with the "Zionist white interlopers" more than the good Rev

incidentally, Kiryas Joel has the distinction of being the poorest place in the US of A.

"70 percent of the village’s 21,000 residents live in households whose income falls below the federal poverty threshold"
Many ultra-Orthdox Jewish men don't work.  They hang out studying at the yeshiva or synagogue all day, and live off the welfare system.

Eat, pray, don’t work: Israel cannot afford to keep paying ultra-Orthodox men to shun employment (The Economist)

I'll let some locals correct me, but as I understand it there are some places in Michigan that are pretty Muslim-tastic.

I'm no expert on this, but what I've heard is that they move in and just flat out take over entire communities. HOA? their's. zoning? theirs.

Lots of things aren't funny.
like this?

So does this mean they have expanded beyond 47th St Photo? Or is that a different group altogether. I used to go to NYC all the time. Now I almost never do.

I'm not Jewish.

I'll never forget my first experience with Boro Park, Brooklyn. New to sales . . . I set an appointment in Boro Park with the owner of a company who asked that I meet him on a certain street corner at a certain time. Not knowing anything about Boro Park at the time I asked him "How will you know it's me?" to which he replied "Don't worry - I'll know"

Sure enough i stuck out like a sore thumb, It was like I was in another country - A goyum stuck in a land of black hats and curls as far as the eye can see. Very odd. They also only do business/socialize with their kind.Women shaved bald and wear wigs - all of em.

If I were in your shoes, I'd sell ASAP - even for a loss. I'd want no part of that.

And while we're on this topic - can someone shed some light on a rumor I've wondered about for a long time - Is it true that on their wedding night a Hasidic couple will have sex through a hole in the sheet?

What is the reason for this?

Actually, not all of them do. The practice has its origins in the dictates of modesty. From time immemorial, an uncovered head was considered immodest. Married Jewish women covered their heads, usually with a scarf or veil, so as not to draw attention to themselves.

In relatively recent times, the wearing of a wig or a half-wig, called a “sheitel” in Yiddish, became a way for a very religious Jewish woman to conform to the requirement to cover her hair. Eventually some decided that it was easier (and cooler) to wear the sheitel on a shaved head or one with short hair than to cover a full head of hair with a wig. It also has the advantage of not allowing one’s real hair to show, thus preserving modesty. However, some ultra-orthodox believe that wearing a wig looks too much like real hair and so will only wear a scarf or veil with no wig.

If you bought before 2003 or after 2009, sell and don't look back. If you bought in the aforementioned window, I'd still lean towards selling.

ok... this isn't definitive proof or anything, but...

wife and I went through fertility treatments to have our kids- found a great doc and got going. one thing about the hasidics...they all do the same ####### thing that the other one is doing- shop at zara, use this doctor for fertility. the waiting room overflowed with them.

so- part of the process is that the guy goes and yanks it into a cup- special rooms set up with pron just for the purpose. kind of an embarrassing walk when it's your turn because EVERYBODY knows exactly where you're going and what you're going to be doing. the hasidics would always bring their wives and always bring a plastic bag that had a blanket or sheet in it.

now... and I've completely surmised all of this on my own without looking for backup... I think there must be some kind of law about self-pleasuring, and I think the sheet thing is true, and I think they have to bring their wives in to jack them off through a sheet. I just want to know what kind of porn they use.
