The Gridiron Football League is a new IDP contract dynasty league start up looking for owners. This is a very deep GM experience, with everything from coaches and offensive lines to RFA tenders contracts and poaching Practice Squad players. Check out the details below or visit the league site through the League By-Laws link here: http://www73.myfanta...ns?L=72486&O=26 and if this league sounds like the type of dynasty experience you've been looking for then send an email to the commissioner and we'll discuss getting you set up. League Fees & Payouts

  • First 2 years paid upfront: $200

We keep owners paid a year in advance to minimize orphaned teams and to make it easier to find replacement owners if necessary.
  • If you decide you want to opt out and you give us a full seasons notice you are are still eligible to play the upcoming season on the advance fee you paid. This gives us plenty of time to find a replacement and also allows us to regulate you from trading away your teams worth.
  • If you cant play for whatever reason, you can attempt to find a replacement and recoup your $100 advance fee that way.

[*]Subsequent yearly leagues fees ($100) are due before the offseason begins.

[*]All league fees are handled through League Safe.

[*]League fees are non-refundable.

[*]16 * $100 = $1600

[*]GFL Bowl Winner = $800

[*]GFL Bowl Loser = $400

[*]BotW Bowl Winner = $200

  • Everyone who did not make it in to the GFL Bowl participate in the Best of the Worst Bowl.
  • The team with the most points scored throughout the playoff weeks wins their entry fee back.

[*]MFL League Fee = $100

[*]Administration Fee = $100

Rosters
Each owner may have any number of players on their team as long as it does not exceed 45 active players.

  • 2-4 LB
  • 2-3 DE

  • 2-4 WR
  • 0-1 FB
  • 1-2 RB
  • 1 QB
  • 1 Offensive Line
  • 1 Coach

[*]22 Bench

[*]8 PS Players

Inaugural Year

  • For the inaugural year we will host a 14 round draft (email), where 1 of every position must be drafted by each team.
  • Once the draft is complete the remainder of the teams will be filled via Free Agency auction.
  • Drafted players contract salary/length will be determined by round/pick.
Salary Cap Rules

  • Our salary cap matches the NFL cap at $155m per year.

Each season the salary cap will be adjusted to match the salary cap of the NFL.

[*]A maximum of $10m of unspent cap can be carried forward into the following year, each year.

Contract Types
There are 2 different types of contracts: S and R

  • S-Type - Standard (S) contract with equal payments each year.

All newly signed free agents receive this contract type.

[*]R-Type - Rookie ® contract or Restructured ® contract.

  • R-Type contracts cannot be restructured.

Rookie Draft

  • Each season following the inaugural season we will hold a rookie draft.
  • The rookie draft is a linear draft.
  • Draft order is inverse of the standings. (Last team picks first, league champ picks last)
  • Draft picks may be traded.
  • Rookie Draft is done via email format, granting each team a 12 hour clock to make their pick.
  • This is a longer draft process allowing owners to reseach their picks, negotiate with multiple possible trades, and most importantly is flexible with everyones schedule.
Rookie Salaries

  • Rookie salaries are determined by round/pick.

    Round 1: Picks 1-4 $4, Picks 5-8 $3.8, Picks 9-12 $3.6, Picks 13-16 $3.4
  • Round 2: Picks 1-4 $3.2, Picks 5-8 $3, Picks 9-12 $2.8, Picks 13-16 $2.6
  • Round 3: Picks 1-4 $2.4, Picks 5-8 $2.2, Picks 9-12 $2, Picks 13-16 $1.8
  • Round 4: Picks 1-4 $1.6, Picks 5-8 $1.4, Picks 9-12 $1.2, Picks 13-16 $1
  • Round 5: Picks 1-4 $0.95, Picks 5-8 $0.9, Picks 9-12 $0.85, Picks 13-16 $0.8
  • Round 6: Picks 1-16 $0.75

[*]Rookie contract lengths are determined by round picked.

  • Round 1: 4-5 years
  • Round 2: 3-4 years
  • Round 3: 2-3 years (1yr PS option)
  • Round 4, 5, and 6: 1-2 years (1yr PS option)
  • Rookie players selected in the 3rd through 6th rounds may be signed to the team's practice squad.

Free Agency

  • All players that are not drafted become free agents.
  • Free agent's salaries are determined by an auction.
  • An owner who desires a free agent may bid on that free agent.

Opening bids start at the league minimum: $0.75
  • You are bidding the yearly salary for a player.
  • A bid must remain as the highest bid for 24 hours to win the auction.
  • Acquired FA players may be signed to any length of contract or be designated to the practice squad.
  • Owners are only capable of bidding up to the amount of free salary space they have for their active roster.

[*]Upon obtaining the player's rights, the owner has 24 hours to sign the player or designate the player to their practice squad.

  • If the owner fails to do either, the player is immediately placed on the team's PS.
  • If the PS is full, the player rights are forfeited and either awarded to the next highest bidder OR if no other bidder exists or all other bidders are no longer interested in signing the player at their last bid price, the player is retruned to the FA pool.

Re-signing Unrestricted Free Agents

  • When one of your player's contract has expired you have one of two options.

You can either let them test free agency to let him be bid on by the league (explained above).
  • Or you can re-sign them at a price.

[*]When you resign a player their salary increases.

[*]Each offseason you may spend up to 16 contract years resigning unrestricted free agents, broken down as you see fit.

  • 5 year contracts = Salary+$2
  • 4 year contracts = Salary+$2.2
  • 3 year contracts = Salary+$2.35
  • 2 year contracts = Salary+$1.65
  • 1 year contracts = Salary+$1.25

[*]For example: I could resign 6 players to contracts of varying lengths, as long as the total years never exceeds 16.

  • One 5 year contract, One 4 year contract, Three 2 year contracts, and One 1 year contract.
  • Three 4 year contracts, One 2 year contract, and One 1 year contract.

Re-signing Restricted Free Agents

  • Each offseason owners have 3 RFA tenders that they may place on an RFA player should they wish to gamble on retaining that rookie for a bargain price.
  • An RFA is a player who was drafted as a rookie by their current organization who was signed for 3 years or less, and whose contract has expired.
  • You may place one of 3 Tenders on an RFA and let them test free agency.

Tender Contracts do not count towards your UFA contract year budget.
  • A-Tender = Current Salary+$0.75/2yr contract
  • B-Tender = Current Salary+$0.95/3yr contract
  • C-Tender = Current Salary+$1.10/4yr contract

[*]If a tendered player receives an offer from another team that exceeds their tender contract value then the current owner has 2 options

  • Sign the player to a salary that matches the current highest bid, consuming years from the UFA contract years budget (16).
  • Receive a draft pick for that player, based on the tender you've applied to them.
  • A-Tender = Winning bid team's draft pick that matches the round that player was originally drafted.
  • B-Tender = Winning bid team's 2nd round draft pick.
  • C-Tender = Winning bid team's 1st round draft pick.

[*]You may only bid on an RFA if you hold your teams original corresponding draft pick required.

  • For example: This means if you traded your 1.10 pick for another teams 1.05 you are not eligible to bid. Even if the pick you currently hold is a higher pick.

[*]You can re-sign them to your team using the UFA resigned rules above, and forgo letting them test free agency with a tender.
Restructuring Players (Active Roster)

  • Each offseason you may extend one contract by two years and reduce one contract by one year.

Only S-type contracts may be restructured.
  • Only contracts with at least 1-3 years remaining may be extended.
  • Only contracts with at least 2 years remaining may be reduced.

[*]Each offseason one offensive and one defensive salary can be renegotiated, reducing the annual salary by $1.

  • K are considered Offensive players
  • P are considered Defensive players.
  • KR is determined by their main roster position (WR, DB, etc.)

[*]Players may only be resigned or restructured during the pre-rookie-draft phase of the off-season.

Contract Termination

  • Early contract termination formula: (Salary*0.5)*YearsRemaining
  • Example: Terminating a $5/3yr Contract would cost $7.5 (5*0.5)*3=7.5
  • $7.5 would count against the cap for 1 season.
  • If the termination was prior to week 9, then it counts against the current season cap.
  • If the termination was post week 8, then it counts against the cap next season.
[*]Each offseason each Owner gets a free buyout. Any single contract can be terminated free of charge.
Practice Squad Rules

  • PS salaries are paid out of the salary cap.
  • Some drafted players & all FA acquisitions are available to be placed on the PS. This is an alternative to signing them to your Active Roster.
  • No Active Roster player can be demoted to the PS.
  • PS players do NOT count against the Active Roster limit.
  • Players placed on the PS may remain there for the entire season.
  • During the PS Resigning Period held during the offseason, PS players may be signed to your active roster for their PS salary on a 1-3 year contract.

PS signings do not count against your yearly UFA contract years budget.
  • PS players not signed to the active roster must be released into the Free Agency.

[*]At any time during the Season, Players on PS may be released at no cost to the team. (there is no penalty for releasing a PS player)

[*]PS players can be poached (signed) from your squad by another team for their PS salary+$0.5 on a 1 year contract.

  • Poaching a PS player is handled on a first come first serve basis.
  • An official post must be made on the PS Poaching message board.
  • The current owner has right of first refusal. This means the current owner must activate a player who is being poached for their current PS salary on a 1-year contract. There must be room on the active roster to activate a PS player.
  • If the player has not been activated after 24 hours have passed the PS player rights are awarded to the poaching team.
  • A poached PS player must be signed to the poaching teams active roster.

[*]A player may be brought up to the active roster during the season at any point if there is an open roster spot. They will automatically convert to a one-year contract and will be eligible to resign according to the active roster resigning rules.

IR Roster Rules

  • To place a player on the IR, the player must have been officially placed on IR or PUP list, or missed 2 consecutive games.
  • When a player is placed on the IR, they must be noted on our Injury Reporting message board as "Player Name, Team: Placed on IR" with supporting link to source of claim.
  • IR players do not count against the 45 active player roster limit, but half of their salary (50%) will continue to count against the salary cap.
Suspensions

  • Players who are officially suspended from the NFL do not count towards a Team's Roster Space or their Salary while they are suspended.
  • When a suspension is over, they immediately DO count against the Team's Roster and Salary.
  • Owners exceeding the roster limit will be unable to submit their lineup until their roster discrepancies have been resolved.
League Deadlines

  • Trade Deadline is Week 10.

No trades of any sort are allowed to happen after Week 10 thru the Playoffs.
  • Trades are allowed once again after our Championship Weekend.

[*]Buy Out Deadline is Week 8.

  • Because the salary "penalty" only counts for one season, this deadline is to help prevent abuse of this opportunity for teams experiencing a down season.
  • All buy out penalties incurred AFTER week 8 go against the cap of the following season.

[*]PS Lock Deadline is Week 9.

  • After Week 9, players can no longer be added to the PS.
  • Players on PS can still be activated to the Active Roster & FAs can still be signed to the Active Roster. But after Week 8, no players may be placed on PS.

[*]Rule Changes Week 1.

  • Any rule changes proposed and agreed upon prior to Week 1 will go into effect the following season.
  • Any rule changes proposed and agreed upon after Week 1 will go into affect the season after next.
  • This will give all owner adequate time to prepare and plan for any upcoming changes.

I'm not necessarily interested in joining the league at this time.  I'm maxed out.  HOWEVER, I'm working on a reboot of a current running league for 2017 that would be a start-up and I like very much the setup of your rules, contracts, etc.  My question is on that initial draft of the players where 1 of each position must be selected, how are salaries established for those selections?  I see for future rookies you have a scale for that, and for future players after the initial draft it would be driven by auction pricing.  But where would I find your values for those initial players placed on the roster?   Thanks---Jeff

Hey Jeff,

There's a spreadsheet that can be found through the link to the league settings in  the original post. Contracts are reduced by a set amount every 4 picks, and contract length requirements are set by round.

For whatever reason the copy/paste didn't bring the spreadsheet across.

Also,  we've got room for a few more... You should join! ?
