2016-17 Hot Stove League: Let's just give it to Jerry Di Poto won it because Seattle never wins anything

R.A. Dickey to the Braves 1 yr/ 8 mil with an option for 2018.

Cardinals to stretch Rosenthal out as a potential starter. Joins a crowded pool of potentials: Martinez, Reyes, Wainwright, Leake, Garcia, Lynn, Wacha.

White Sox are listening to offers for Chris Sale at GM meetings.

Astros supposedly aggressive in trade market, with Miguel Cabrera and Brian McCann as interesting names rumored.

Matt Holliday rumored to be an option for a return to Colorado.

Dickey seems like a good low risk move for Atlanta, especially considering the paucity of FA starters.  Unless his knuckler stops knuckling, he'll eat average innings every fifth day.  If he's good, he'll return a prospect at the deadline.

The Rosenthal news is November talk.  We'll see come April but there's no downside now.

Holliday or Napoli would make sense as Rockies 1B.  Those guys should be able to exceed the production of Parra, Reynolds and Paulsen from their rocking chair.

Of course the White Sox will listen to offers for Sale.

Cabrera is essentially the same age as Encarnacion.  Cabrera is the better player but I think I'd rather have Encarnacion for 5/125 and a draft pick than Cabrera at 7/212 plus players and prospects.

Colon to the Braves as well. Basically everything that applies to the Dickey signing can be transferred to Colon as well.

Let's be honest, the best news out of that signing is that Colon will be hitting again next year.

Blue Jays sign Cuban Lourdes Guerriel Jr. 7 year/22M. Sounds like he can hit and play multiple positions, anyone know more?

I thought he would get more. He's toolsy, not the production of his big brother but high ceiling potential wise(i.e. Tremendous Upside)

Lourdes Jr. doesn't have the skills/reputation of his father or brother.  I think his value will be heavily position dependent.  He's a big dude but there are questions whether his bat will play at a CI or OF position.  If he can handle a MI position defensively, the bar is set much lower.

He's a risk/reward pick but locking him in for his entire 20s could prove to be a shrewd move for Atkins.  On the downside, they may have just guaranteed $22M to the next Alex Guerrero or Rusney Castillo.

LA gets Darrin Ruf and Darnell Sweeney (who came over from the Dodgers in the Utley deal).  The Dodgers need right handed bats in the worst way so Ruf fills a need, although it's a net zero with Kendrick gone.

I assume Philadelphia still considers Kendrick a 2B but he'll be 34 and the Phillies need OFs too.   Kendrick only has OF eligibility in fantasy but wouldn't be a terrible deep league MI option pick if he moves back to second.

Jesse Chavez to the Anaheims for 1/$5.75M, ostensibly to compete for a rotation spot.  He wasn't terrible as a SP in Oakland when he was physically able to pitch.  His results from the bullpen last year weren't as good.

Chavez is a finesse pitcher and has very little margin for age-related decline (he's 33).  The Angels need arms and if he can give them 150 replacement level IP, he's a relative bargain.

Crasnick says 3 mil in SP-related incentives attached as well.

If he can make 30 starts, he's worth $8.75M.  Consider the $3M as money saved from Lincecum's incentives this year.

I'm surprised more teams didn't go for Colon. Relatively cheap and durable. Old as hell, but eats innings. Guess teams are worried he's going to fall off a cliff?

Only ten wins away from Marichal's record for a Puerto Rican born pitcher! Hope he gets there and continues pitching effectively until he's in his 50's.

A Dominican-born 43. So he may be pitching in his 50s now.

Valencia must be a giant ####### cause that is a terrible return for a solid player under team control for 2 years.

Given what he did to Billy Butler I'd say he is exactly what one would want in their clubhouse.

Valencia trade seems like a deck-clearing move to get some longer-term guys some PT. Blackburn's a poor man's version of what Oakland seems to have been seeking out the last couple years: groundballs, low walks. Maybe they see some potential for K's, I dunno.

Valencia's power is nice, but he's only versatile in that he can suck at many different positions defensively around the diamond. He also had a reputation for also being a bit difficult to deal with in the clubhouse. So, again, clearing the decks.

Valencia is a good fit in the Mariners roster, provided he can be a good fit in the clubhouse.

I never judge Beane's deals in a vacuum.  We'll have to see what the Oaklands put on the field come April.  His reputation has taken a huge hit since July 2014 but he still has more job security than any GM save Theo.

Your reputation has taken a big hit since 1914.
