He will never be as good as Robert Smith who wrote great songs as an RB for Minnesota,  nor will he be like Tony Banks who played keyboard for Genesis as well as QB for Baltimore .

Meh, they're no jack mcdowell.

They're going to test some things in spring training and the WBC to speed up the game. One "idea" is putting a runner on 2nd base for each team to start the 10th inning.

So the situation is man on 2nd, no outs.

What do you do first? You bunt the guy to third.

Man on third, one out.

Opposing manager then intentionally walks the bases loaded and most likely switches relievers.

Then the same thing happens in the bottom of the inning.

i don't think that one is a good idea.

A lot of fast pitch softball leagues use this method for extra innings. Time to get the stat nerds on the outcomes there.

What a horrible idea. Everybody loves extra innings. Who the hell doesn't?

This is dumber than tjnc's proposed playoff format.

Only thing I could see is if they did this in like the 15th inning or something. Everyone loves extra innings, up to a point.

Heard some discussion this morning about what would happen if/when they move to an automated-ump calling balls and strikes. Said it would completely eliminate the art of pitch-framing and change the entire way the position of catcher is viewed. Basically making it a much more offensive-minded, rather than defensive-minded, position. Also said it would cut way-down on steals as catchers would no longer need to receive the ball in the best position to frame a pitch, they would instead concentrate solely on receiving the ball while being in the best position to throw out a runner. Interesting stuff I never thought of.

The runner on second should be the modern day equivalent of Lonnie Smith.

They should do this in every game

I'm all in for a runner starting on second during extra innings, ONLY IF, the other team gets to pick your runner. Imagine the opposing manager walking out to start extra innings and pointing at Billy Butler or Sandoval.

Second choice would be it has to be the bullpen catcher.

I want to see the manager on the basepaths.

Nathan Eovaldi gets 2M from the Rays but not play in 2017.

Looks like they have a  club option on him for 2018 as part of the agreement ($$$ not yet revealed) ... would have to be quite a discounted rate to make it worth paying him $2 mil to rehab this year.

Can anyone come up with a logical reason behind MLB doing a Grammys promotion?

Adam Lind to the Nationals.  Seems like a good move for them to possibly platoon with Zimmerman or at least provide Zimmerman insurance.

Someone over on the Rotoworld forums just pointed out that Corey Seager's WAR in his first full season was better than Derek Jeter's career best year. I checked fangraphs, and it holds up.  7.5 in 2016 for Seager, 7.4 for Jeter in 1999.

Incredible.

Fake stats.

Baseball Reference has three Jeter seasons with higher rWAR than Seager '16.

Did anyone see the segment on MLB network with Eric Byrnes celebrating his birthday? He ran 40 miles on a treadmill, immediately chugged half a beer and poured the rest over his head, then ran out the door in his Captain America underwear and rolled down the hill in the snow. Kids cheering him on the whole way. It was pretty remarkable. Gotta be a video of it out there somewhere, but I cant find it.

I can't say I'm a fan of the hair color change, but no complaints about how much Kelly Nash likes to show off that rack.

The Giants signed Aaron Hill as a camp guy for some reason.

Their 2007 DP combo of Hill and Jimmy Rollins would challenge their 2017 version of Panik and Crawford.

please, stop making managers wear unifoms.  team jacket, hoodie is fine.  these guys are 80 and fat.  no more mound warm up for relievers, that's why we have a bullpen.

Here's video of the final moments... the segment on MLB network was better though, they showed video from earlier in the day when he was in full Captain America suit and when he crossed the 26.2 mile mark. He was shadow-boxing and singing on the treadmill. :lmao: Dude is nuts.

MLB does away with actually having to pitch for an intentional walk to save 15 seconds. Way to Goodell that one Manfred.
