It seems like defenders would be coached that if an offensive player they are covering is attempting a sideline catch, they should try to ride them out of bounds at the point the ball is caught rather than attempting to defend the pass. It should be easy to prevent a catch like Crabtree's.

Has it? I hadn't thought of that. I assumed the Chargers being generally better than the Raiders until very recently, that the Chargers would have the support in San Diego.
Raider nation is huge in socal and they have always traveled to the Q in masses. During the good years of 06/07, they still consumed a majority of the seats.
Yeah. Went to a game there in '01 as a Raiders' fan. Was not in the minority then. The Raiders being in LA for so long, as well as "The Official Apparel of N.W.A.," really helped them overcome the Chargers as the favorite team in SoCal.
