Trump Voters - What are your top 3 policy expectations of President Trump (1 Viewer)

adonis

Footballguy
Serious post here.  Just like during the campaign, the post-election discussion has mainly seen policy largely neglected, especially in terms of what those who voted for Trump expect to see, specifically out of his presidency.

So in a serious post here to Trump supporters, what are your Top 3 (or more) expectations in terms of policy accomplishments of a Trump presidency?  As in, if Trump doesn't accomplish these three things, you will be disappointed in him.

Something like:

  1. Build a wall - the best wall
  2. Deport X number of immigrants
  3. Repeal Obamacare in full
or

  1. Renegotiate the Iran deal to something much better.  (perhaps describe what's better).
  2. Bring back the coal mining and manufacturing jobs.
  3. Put HRC in jail
Seriously though...what are the key accomplishments you're hoping to see from a Trump Presidency?  Be as specific as possible, describing what a successful outcome would look like.

Making America Great Again Again

As somebody who didn't vote for Trump I'd like to see.

America become great again.
Guns become legal
Hillary in jail.

(Hillary in jail would be a bonus)

I don't believe they have any "expectations".  That would imply they're willing to hold him accountable, and I think we've seen that's never going to happen.  Nobody voted for him because of his policies.

Yes, that's a much better reaction than actually formulating a response to my question. You can't be that oblivious to the fact that most of the world sees Trump as a reality TV star who says dumb things on Twitter all the time and is completely unqualified to be president.

This thread will end well.....probably 6-7 banning's and a lockdown when all is said and done.

Is deficit reduction a major concern for anyone? Tax reform?  Maternity leave plan?
Id hope it would be...but not holding my breath for real budget deficit reduction.  Probably more of the same.  "we cut the budget"...but what they really do is cut the increases departments requested.

Tax reform...we will see it, will it be more than minimal benefits to the middle class and big benefits to the upper echelon?

My bad...just trying to get some answers.
What I am hoping for.

1. The Affordable Care act has been a disaster and needs reform.  That was going to happen with Trump or Clinton though..just get it right this time and make it "Affordable".

2. We will never balance the trade but at least try to get it a little better than it is now. Even a 10-20% decrease in the trade deficit would be huge.

3. Keep working with American companies and manufacturing.  Not only big companies.....Work with small business as they are essential for job growth.

What are your policy expectations?
Well I'm the last thing from a Trump supporter, but:

1.  They will repeal the tax portion of the ACA but sunset the rest three years out, conveniently after mid term elections. So they get the tax cuts for the rich without having to take thier medicine on the rest.

2. Serious moves towards charter schools and away from funding public schools.

3. Gutting any and all environmental regulations they can.

4. Some kind of increased military action in the middle east.

5. Easing of any restrictions on the financial industry. The casino is back in session.

5. Some form of progressive tax cuts benefiting the rich.

6. Increased military spending.

7. Selling off of federal lands.

8. Re-politicising the Department of justice. Notably reinforcing voter suppression and calling off the dogs on police violence.

9. "infrastructure" bill that will be back door tax cuts.

10. Some piss ant watered down child care bill that will be in the form of tax credits that won;t really benefit the income level that really need them.

11. Destroying medicare as we know it.

12. Benefit cuts for social security.

13. Nothing done to reduce pharmaceutical costs which I believe is the single greatest problem our nation is facing.

That's just off the top of my head.

3.  Repair our economy.
These are some noble goals.  Yet the terms used to describe them are broad and vague.

In what ways do you think these three things have not happened over the past 8 years?

What specific indicators will you be looking for to say these things are happening?  Anything measurable?

Stop making me wish I voted for trump instead of third party...

1.  Cut government waste at all departments.  No agency, including the military, gets a budget increase for at least the next 2 years.  Our governments need to operate more like the private sector .  They do not get guaranteed money. Instead, they need to do more with less by cutting unnecessary heads, equipment, and departments.

2.  Reduce the deficit.  This is tied to #1.  The US brings in enough tax money.  It is the spending that is the issue.

2.  Control the border and follow the current immigration laws.

3.  Revise Obamacare and work on the costs of healthcare.  Big pharma is out of control.

I was pretty much going to post what Jackstraw; that, while far from a Trump voter, there are things he might do through his appointments that would make me happy.

I'd like to see the FCC scale back their efforts to regulate the Internet

I'd also like to see the OCR look into Title IX enforcement

Didn't vote for him, but pretty much the same thing I would have liked Bernie to accomplish...

1. Get rid of ACA, it could be the worst bill in history.

2. Fix the trade deals where we are getting bent over.  don't do TPP.

3. Stop incentivizing American companies to send American jobs overseas.  More $15-$30 per hour jobs instead of $8-$12 hour jobs.

How well do you think Trump's campaign rhetoric mirrored these expectations?

What do you think the chances of progress on any of these are by midterms?

Do you think anyone will call you out for being condescending when this post showed counting to three correctly was a struggle for you?

1. Try and fix the ACA and address medical costs and keeping pre-ex conditions

2. Keeping more jobs here and more incentives, less regulations for small businesses

3. Helping those in the inner cities, and rural areas with jobs and programs to help them get off of welfare.

This sounds like a liberal agenda.  Can't see the Breitbart team going for any of this.  I mean what of this list is even in the realm of what the GOP has shown a willingness towards in the last 2 decades?  You still have to get these liberal things by the GOP controlled house.

You've got to do a little better than "work on" or "try and fix" ACA before you repeal what we have. Long before now there should have been a valid plan offered for replacing it with something better (better = more inclusive, less costly).

There is no plan. There's almost certainly no plan for something better because to date only one system has proven to be better for all of a nation's citizens and large numbers of us reject that system even with the evidence of its success staring us in our faces.

2. Obama has reduced the trade deficit
Yep.  On a percentage basis I believe he's cut the deficit more than any President in history, or at least close.

Of course Trump ran on and was elected based on economic policies that most analysts believe will explode the deficit.

He asked and I answered. Those are things that are important to me and I don't see liberals getting any of those things done.

To make it more clear...put together a bipartisan team including those from the private sector develop a plan to fix the ACA before anything is repealed.

Well good luck with any of those three items happening, even a fully 3 chamber Democrat base would struggle to get those passed.  I get it that lots of Trump voters are really actually liberal disenfranchised Obama voters, but I mean that's a bucket list of things that Obama tried and couldn't get through the house.  I don't think Trump is going to have any more success as the house is run by rural interests that could give two ####s about the inner city and small business regulations.

I didn't vote for Trump but based on what he's indicated in his campaign I would like to see the following:

1. Tax reform - tax cuts along with simplification of the code and elimination of loopholes.

2. Comprehensive immigration reform - creating an immigration process that eliminates illegal immigration and puts in place a stringent vetting process for all immigrants entering the country.

3. Replace Obamacare - create a system that does not place the weight of subsidized healthcare on the backs of the middle class.
