I figure like most areas, there's a bunch of great music out there that doesn't get noticed just due to a variety of reasons.  Just thought it would be a good idea for everyone to share some local tunes with the board.  Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't

I literally stumbled into this band at a festival when I was going to grab a few beers near the stage they were playing.  I was supposed to head back to a different stage, but I heard them play and ended up staying for the whole set.

Rotary Downs  (from Wiki)- Indie Rock.  NPR' Morning Edition considers them "outsider artists" and characterized their 2007 album Chained To The Chariot as "a stunning collection of psychedelic art-pop songs that play like brilliant mash-ups of Neutral Milk Hotel and Odelay-era Beck".[3]

not sure what i like about this, but i just listened to it on repeat while working and it's going on my permanent playlist.
Yeah, I was trying to figure out a band to compare them to in my original writeup...but kept coming up empty.  Just good rock music. Glad you like

The Blueflowers were one of my favorite local bands. They just broke up recently as the 2 band leaders got divorced.

Dude. "Maybe?"

C'mon...

eta* For those who think this is cryptic, it's Anna Karina (my avatar) pulled directly from Vivre Sa Vie, the movie, dancing to a girl group song that sounds better than even than the Detroit Cobras, as it might be original.

 @Ilov80s, as always. Bravo.

But some Cobras after this jump...

Not local to me, but he linked this song on a Pearl Jam fan group on FB.  Great vocals IMO.  I hate comparing musical artists but sort of a slow Alice and Chainsesque song (but solo acoustic)

John Olsen - Gone

Not really local, but I went from see them in local bars when they were starting out.

Starting to pull bigger and bigger venue's the last 2 times around, Stone Pony Summer Stage and will

be playing at the Beacon in NYC in February....Really good live shows.

Probably doesn't meet the local definition but Hurray for the Riff Raff feels like it does because Alynda Lee Segarra started out at ABC No Rio on the lower east side. These days she tours out of the Ninth Ward in NOLA. Next album drops March 10, this song "Hungry Ghost" was uploaded this morning:

Another cut that was uploaded last month, "Rican Beach":

They're terrific in concert, they've played for several years at Newport Folk Festival & New Orleans Jazzfest. But the Americana genre probably has a limited audience.

Video is cheesy with the words, but it's a good recording. This is my all-time favorite band, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. He was the lead in the Refreshments and formed his new band when they broke up. Here's one of my favorites. They are out of Tempe AZ.

My favorite song of theirs.  Seen them many times over the years and always a great show.  Saw Roger solo in Orlando a couple months back.  Came out with an amp and guitar and blasted through Fizzy, Fuzzy front to back and then played a few other songs by request until he tequila KO'ed himself.  Awesome show.

My buddy is managing/producing a local band called The Contagious. They are a trio of high school freshmen 14 years old. The drummer is a monster on the kit (I know his dad).

Video of their first single: https://youtu.be/uKJJ9jHVfuA

Live version of a Rage cover: https://youtu.be/SufisZXc7nU

Check this video out of the drummer screwing around during a sound check. He was 12 or 13 at the time. This isn't the band linked above (just the drummer) but it's worth watching to see the kid's proficiency on the kit.

I know my buddy and the band would really appreciate it if you subscribed to the band's YouTube channel, as that is how they can demonstrate marketability.

These kids opened for Bon Jovi last week in Dallas. They are high school sophomores. I can’t imagine playing an arena at age 16 (or age 47 for that matter).

Here’s a pretty funny news story about the show - Jon Bon Jovi wrote the boys an excuse letter for missing a day of school.
