It’s also been asserted that having Bryant as your FG kicker costs two roster spots because his kickoff skills aren’t up to par.  So unless the team’s punter excels at kickoffs you’re looking at a kickoff specialist.

I haven’t checked the numbers to verify that (I’m at work), but if true it could explain his surprisingly long unemployment.

Chase Daniel has looked pretty bad and Bray also, but Bray was a bit better in the last outing.

OT Clemmings tore a quad, Bars took over and reportedly did a nice job.

Horstead’s TD catch was a fluke.  If the DB didn’t deflect the ball straight down into his arms, it would’ve sailed.

Iggy looks lost and slow at times.

Vaughters looks like a keeper.

Duck (from the Giants game) needs to get in the weight room and do some jump squats; so slow.

It was an interesting read, but J.J. & Moon from the Bears Under Center podcast ripped this article to shreds since it didn’t really tell the whole story.

The majority of the kickers they brought in for OTAs were straight trash; they were literally scraping the bottom of the barrel.  One guy went 0 for 9, for example.  The scoring and comments sheet was merely psychological, IMO.  Their overall point was it’s been a conventional kicking competition since training camp started.

 
As far as what Nagy said recently about Cohen, all he meant was perhaps they gave him too much mentally last season.  I don’t believe he’s going to see his role reduced, as he (and everyone else on offense) should know the playbook much better in year two.

Now that there is a precedent for opposing defenses focusing on him, it’s up to Nagy to get creative in getting him open in space.  With the way ARob has looked in camp (outstanding) and as more offensive players (Miller, most specifically) raise their game, Cohen is not going to be the sole focus for defenses going forward.

Don't discount Gabriel either. Not talked about much but also a very important piece.

Marvin Hall gone.  Looks like Cohen will still be the primary punt returner and Patterson will be the primary kickoff returner.  For those that care about such things.

Good return game. Although if Cohen keeps up his reversing field shtick we might need to throw Patterson out there on punts too.

So GB cut Kizer...  It would be a very sly move to pick him up and get all the details of their new offense going into game 1.  Not sure if he’s eligible for the practice squad.  Probably not.

Wonder if they'll all go back and admit how wrong they were on the Trubisky trade? Nah

 
Da Bears could easily win the north.  imo, they look the most balanced team in the division.  I mean the Vikes are a good team, and you never count out Rodgers, but da Bears have lots of playmakers on O, a young up and comer QB,  and a very good defense.  SI needs to put the crack pipe down.

 
I didn't mean to assume we'd grab him, just interesting to see where he went.  Vedvik has more value as a punter with emergency kicker capability, but that's about it.

They weren’t wrong on the Trubisky trade, it was, is, and always will be a terrible trade. They traded two 3rds and a 4th to move up 1 spot. Nobody was bidding to leap frog them and even if they were, we would’ve been “forced” to take Watson or Mahomes if whoever jumped them took Trubisky.

Speaking for myself and the Bears fans I know, all Chicago land natives, we didn’t have a problem with the pick. Rather, the problem was with the price paid. It was a fine pick but a bad trade at the moment it happened. It isn’t better with the benefit of hindsight and Trubisky becoming an MVP caliber player wouldn’t make the trade better because, again, the trade to get him was unnecessary.

With that sort of black and white logic, I bet you think last season was a failure because we didn’t win the super bowl. It’s not hedging to be fine with the pick but upset with the means by which the pick was acquired. It was a fine pick but was preceded by a bad and, very likely, unnecessary trade.

Case in point, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Raiders fans being upset about the Josh Jacobs pick this year. He could turn out fantastic but they should be mad because they got it at the cost of trading Khalil Mack

The Bears signed 10 players to their practice squad Sunday, all of whom had been released by the team during Saturday's cutdown to the NFL's mandatory 53-man roster limit.

The group consists of quarterback Tyler Bray, running back Ryan Nall, receiver Thomas Ives, tight end Jesper Horsted, offensive linemen Alex Bars and Sam Mustipher, defensive lineman Jonathan Harris, outside linebacker James Vaughters, and cornerbacks Stephen Denmark and Michael Joseph.

Bray is a six-year NFL veteran. Vaughters signed with the Bears this year after spending the past two seasons in the Canadian Football League. Nall and Joseph were on the Bears practice squad in 2018. Denmark was selected by the Bears in the seventh round of this year’s draft. And Ives, Horsted, Bars, Mustipher and Harris joined the Bears this year as undrafted rookies.

Burton unlikely to play Thursday, per Biggs via @Faust.  Hopefully Shaheen is well enough to be effective.  No idea why Bunting didn’t make the PS at least, he looked good making some nice catches up the seam and even broke some tackles, IIRC.  Bump Miller and Cohen for more targets, I reckon.

Cleveland was trying to trade up for Mitch. After the Bears picked him, none of the other teams had phone calls of teams wanting to move up. Draw your own conclusions from that, but Chicago moved up for a reason.

 
Don't want to pollute your thread with thoughts from a Packer fan.  Just wanted to stop in and say it is nice to see the Bears back to relevance.  I look forward to us playing a third game this year, in Green Bay.  I imagine Bears fans feel the same way, but with the location of that third game being in Chicago.  Best of luck.  Good health.

Cleveland had the #1 pick... they didn't have to trade up to get Trubisky

Can’t think of a better way to start the season Bears VS Packers.  My favorite bartender has reserved a seat for me at the bar, cheese 🧀 curds and spotted cow 🐮. It doesn’t get any better then this!

 
Like I mentioned in another thread, I enjoy these games more when both teams are competitive. But the Packers are going to be awful this year... I think they win five games, at best. I think the bears will finish 14-2 and win the Super Bowl (and yes, I know I say that a lot, but this year others actually agree with me). Today won't even be interesting to watch, it's going to be so lopsided. But this bears team will be there best one since 1985--very few teams will be able to test them. 

 
Trub shown on NFL Fantasy Live walking into SF.  No smiles like last year, but all business.  Looks like a steely-eyed assassin.

I love your confidence.  I see a tough game tonight and as long as Rodgers is on the field they have a chance to win.  I think the Bears finish with around 10-11 wins and go deep into the playoffs.  The Packers finish with around 8-9 wins.

Is the Scream IIPA the limited edition one?  I seem to remember an Imperial IPA I liked that was in the 4 pack.  I like all of their ipas.  They had a barley wine that was one of those seasonal limited editions available for like 3 months.  It was basically an ipa and had an alcohol content of 13%.  You had to be careful drinking it.  I would only drink a couple and then switch to something less lethal.  Are you in Iowa?  Did they start distributing outside of Wisconsin?
