He got massive negative feedback. And now once again we have a right-wing spokesman trying to say "it was a joke", when they say what they think.

Are you horrified or turned on? I need to figure out if I was joking or not.

Terry Moran @TerryMoran

Conan, the hero dog injured in the al-Baghdadi raid, is in fact female, a US defense official tells @ABC. Yesterday, the White House said that Conan was a girl, but later said the dog was actually a boy. The change came after Trump and Pence used male pronouns to refer to Conan.

Followed by:

Terry Moran @TerryMoran

You cannot make this ##### up. After being presented with the fact that a Pentagon official just told @ABC that Conan is FEMALE, a White House official tells us that the WH is still standing by its story that Conan is MALE (as Trump said). The official would not go on the record.

Maybe Conan identifies as a male dog?

We need to see where and how it pees

Twitter says Trump is going to sign legislation making animal cruelty a federal felony. Passed unaninmously in the Senate. Good for everybody involved.

I say this as someone who likes animals very much. Should this really be a federal law? Isn't it something that states are better dealing with?

Have you ever been to a middle school or High school event - they were always going to boo...

And frankly they are. And, rather harshly in my opinion.

ETA: In other words, I anticipate no meaningful impact and animal cruelty cases because of this new law. 99.9% of cases are going to be investigated by or referred to state prosecuting agencies/jurisdictions.

So catching up on news from earlier in the week. Navy Seal commits war crimes. Everyone on his team testifies against him. Trump reinstates the convicted war criminal’s trident, and fires Secretary of Navy. Then says he wants to campaign with the war criminal.

That happened.

Just to make the record clear, I'm not sure the bolded is true.  My recollection is that he got off on the murder charges because one of the guys on the team said that he did it (which shocked the prosecutors because it was a change from earlier statements).  I think the other guys got squirrelly too.

Chris Murphy @ChrisMurphyCT

UPDATE: On my way back from Lebanon. People there are shaking their heads as Trump still refuses to send congressionally mandated security aid. Lebanon may become the next Ukraine or Kurds. Let me tell you how dangerous this moment is. It’s important and you need to know. https://twitter.com/ChrisMurphyCT/status/1199350509028564993

The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) is the most popular, most important multi-ethnic institution in the nation. It helps hold the fractious country together. Abandoning the LAF is akin to giving up on Lebanon.

Today anti-corruption, anti-elite (inc Hezbollah) protests are erupting all over Lebanon. It’s an exciting moment. But Iranian backed Hezbollah is fighting back, confronting the young, often female led protest movement. The LAF is the only force that can protect the protesters.

If Trump cuts off support for the LAF, they can’t sustain operations, and either (1) Hezbollah will take over; or (2) Russia will replace us as the backer of the LAF. Both are awful.

Just like w the Ukraine aid, Trump has given Congress no reason for the funding hold. Some say he wants to cut off funding bc Hezbollah still has influence in Lebanon. This is true, but they have the least influence in the LAF, the counterweight to Hezbollah.

Cutting off LAF funding is the dumbest thing we could do if we are trying to weaken Hezbollah. As stopping Ukraine aid helped Russia, here the hold empowers Iran to step into the vacuum. And it could lead to the collapse of the country which would be a national security disaster.

The bottom line is simple: (1) in a way this is Ukraine again - it’s not legal for Trump to hold funding that Congress authorized; (2) whatever his reason, defunding the Lebanese military does the exact opposite of our policy goals, and signals another abandonment of a key ally.

Chris Hayes @chrislhayes Replying to @ChrisMurphyCT

What is the stated reason for the hold?

Chris Murphy @ChrisMurphyCT

None given. They haven’t “announced” the hold. Like the Ukraine hold, it just finally leaked out at the end of the fiscal year when the money wasn’t showing up.

I had forgotten about this. Even with everything else going on, this story deserves more oxygen. Here's a reminder of what's going on from Time Magazine: https://time.com/5737584/trump-administration-military-aid-lebanon/

I wouldn’t encourage my son to do so. He would be in trouble if he did. But I understand, and we’re expecting middle school kids observing real disturbing changes around them to be better than the President she is married to. That should be a much bigger ask than it is.

She's done nothing to merit respect,  and much to merit contempt - politics aside. What role she's currently holding has no bearing on that. I'd be surprised if adolescents didn't react negatively to an unwanted presentation they're probably involuntarily attending given by a person unworthy of respect.

Not to mention why republicans originally HATED Hillary. Remember, Bill cheated on her and she didn't divorce him. So for some reason that makes her a horrible person.

Yeah, one guy took credit for the murder AFTER he was given immunity. The whole thing REEKS of the military covering for each other. Shameful.

I'm pretty sure a few testified they SAW Gallagher STAB the wounded kid, but then the other SEAL testified he plugged the breathing tube that killed the kid. Then someone else claims they never saw "stab" wounds, but supposedly an airstrike was previously called in, so I'm not sure how you can tell the difference on the field between stab wounds and a bomb having been dropped on you?

It's great when states do it, but it should be federal. Animals rarely vote, scarcely contribute to campaigns, and almost never hire lobbyists, so they're already at a disadvantage when it comes to influencing public policy. They're not going to get much help in the handful of states where animal agriculture is particularly concentrated. But it's an issue that the entire nation has an interest in. States that merely consume animals rather than farming them should also have a say about animal-welfare ethics.

These posts depress me. Apparently Trump hasn’t only infected his followers, but his opponents as well. A First Lady deserves to be booed? Allow me to quote the late Elijah Cummings, who happened to have come from Baltimore: “We’re better than that.”

I kind of think she gets a pass she hasn’t earned. The birtherism, for sure. But given the context, knowing she was an illegal alien and something untoward led to her “Genius Grant,” her silence is complicit. Her “Be Best” campaign when her husband may be literally the most profound bully in American history is worthy of at least some scorn.

I hate to make out a both sides argument, but this isn't a new norm.  Michelle Obama and Jill Biden were booed at a Nascar event in 2011.  And Michelle Obama received a lot of disparaging treatment (i.e. the blatantly racist, ugly kind) during her tenure as FLOTUS, some of it far more hurtful than a round of boos.  And I'd note that her famous "When they go low, we go high" speech was directed towards then candidate Donald Trump's propensity for going low.  Needless to say, there is a bit of irony in defending the current FLOTUS from such disrespectful behavior.

Let's not forget plagiarism for her convention speech, getting immigration/citizenship done for her parents at the same time her husband was making an issue out of "chain migration," engaging in an obviously loveless marriage to attain citizenship (and money and status) for herself. I guess the ne-porn pics could be seen as a plus or a minus depending on who you are.

Tim, I am tired of lets take the high road.  This President cares nothing abouts morals or  caring about other people.  He has never played by the rules and standards set up in our democracy or does he care.

I know logically not to get down in the mud with him, but to paraphrase Samuel L. Jackson "Enough is Enough! I am tired of this mother effer Trump in the mother effer White House"

I’d like to see another Wallace/Kennedy interview:

Wallace: Is the dog a boy or a girl?

Kennedy: I don’t know, nor do you.

Wallace: wait, wait, the vet and the handler say it was a girl.

Kennedy: it could be a boy, the vet is entitled to their opinion.

It’s really easy to understand potus/vp not knowing this dogs gender.  Heck, people that know my dog is a girl still say “good boy” half the time. So if they referred to it as a boy and it’s a girl who cares, that’s a pretty understandable gaffe- and i really don’t expect the president to care (or understand why the dog needs to meet the president- thanks for your service dog, but I’m sure you’d rather just have a piece of bacon.) Instead the official position is “trump said it therefore it must be true.” If they do this about a freaking dog what lengths will they go to keep their asses out of jail?
