Star Wars The Last Jedi Episode 8 thread: this thread sucks, you should avoid it even after you've seen the movie (1 Viewer)

So you think it was just a coincidence that there was bunch of mystery and lore that was written into TFA that went nowhere? Fine believe what you want.
Abrams didn't direct this movie, the story hooks he dropped in TFA not being used in TLJ has nothing to do with him. How could it?

Or are you still drawing parallels to Lost? Seriously, do some googling and see how little involvement Abrams had in that show after it started. There's no parallel except that you're mad about two projects Abrams had very little to do with. That's  parallel I guess.

You're being irrational for the sake of it.

I'm mad? Man you guys are defensive. Maybe it's not all on JJ but clearly there was no grand plan for this trilogy. They are making it up as they go and it shows.

I'll be seeing it a third time today.

My overall impression so far is that this movie, more than any other, is breeding a massive new young generation of Star Wars fans. It is not aimed at adults at all.

I agree, its like Johnson and Abrams have some feud about the direction of the story.  The Casino planet with the horses was 100% totally unnecessary as was the fat girl trying to get with Finn.  They should have shaved 45 minutes off this puppy.

Did anyone else have 50 minutes of commercials and previews last night.  Damn that is way uncalled for.
I had 30 myself and most of the previews were for movies that look like they'll suck.

Was hoping they would put a ready player one preview in there. Besides Infiniti war and solo that's the only other thing I want to see in the coming months

Oh okay. You aren't interested in a discussion about what you said, you just want it known that disagreeing with you means we're defensive. Did not expect a Star Wars thread to go like a political thread.

If you really think Disney of all companies spent billions on the Star Wars property only to wing it while making a series that releases once every two years...I don't know what to tell you. That's willful ignorance. They have a studio exec whose whole job is to oversee the Star Wars part of Disney, as has been pointed out to you.

They made decisions that a lot of us didn't like, and that you really really didn't like. That doesn't mean they're making it up as they go. That's crazy to say.

Have you done the math to realize you were a kid during the first trilogy?

No interest in Black Panther?  Just asking because you seem interested in Marvel.
That did look ok.  Like the guy from creed being the bad guy.  Most likely not see that in theatre though.  I really don't see much in the theatre. Like 3-5 times a year on avg.  There have been years I didn't go at all.

I'd like to see the kid be Rey's brother.

Ky-Lo defeats Rey in the nex pic.  Bad guys win.

Sets up the rest of the next trilogy of Ky-Lo vs the grown up kid.
We don't know much about 10-12 yet but they did say this:

======

Johnson will write and direct the first installment in the new trilogy, with his longtime producer Ram Bergman set to produce the films. While details are scarce, the new trilogy will be separate from the classic Skywalker saga, and instead will focus on “new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.

You really don't want to see the Han Solo movie?  It will be here in the spring.

Excellent idea

I do want to see that.  Solo, ready player one, and Infiniti war. I don't think i will be seeing anything else this year.  And that's more than I would usually see in a year

I'm....not excited about Solo at all. I don't know why, can't put my finger on it. Maybe just because we haven't seen anything on it, but I just don't really care about his backstory.

I'll see it of course, probably first night, but am not hyped about it like I am these movies or Rogue One.

I will give Johnson credit for one thing. His scenes for the budding romance of Rey and Kylo are much more believable than Anakin and Padme.

How are they bringing back Vader?
The Force

Just the mere mention of him, makes me think something is going down. He is supposed to bring balance, what better than uniting Rey & Kylo?

Crapping out loud....and once again this movie was excellent for SW dweebs.

It certainly has had more than its share of major production issues.  The fact the the two original directors thought they were making a comedy film when all Disney wanted was a light comedic touch is certainly alarming.

Yes that was strange.  Glad they got rid of those guys.  Why in the world would they think the solo movie would be a hardcore comedy?  So weird.

They'll name their kid Anakin and he will be transported to Smee on Tatooine in the past. That's how he was brought by the force to her. So Kylo is actually his grandfather's dad!!! What a twist!!!

I'm not even the biggest fan of the marvel movies but that is a triumph in that they got like 8-10 movies to flow up to this point over 10 years and keep the storylines intact.
Yeah and how many huge stars are they going to have in one movie?  "Inifity" and "wars" sounds like it's referring to the budget and the salary negotiations.

I'm not in on the budget meetings but I think Infinity Wars has to be at least 3-5 movies to get all those established characters some screen time.

I'm in the same boat. I'll likely be there opening night and am hoping to be pleasantly surprised but am not quite as excited about this as all of the other recent movies. Not because of not wanting to know more about his backstory but because Han Solo was such an iconic character. He was the king of cool because of Harrison Ford and no matter who plays him, it seems destined to not feel right. I hope I'm wrong.

ETA: Rey and Kylo waxing everyone was a HFS moment.

How's that?  it took the pair of them like 15 minutes to beat just a handful of stormtroopers in red dresses.  Seemed to me like the two of them should have beaten those dudes far more quickly and easily than they did.

But here I go sounding like all the nerds who where freaking out about the light saber fights in the snow at the end of the first one.

You spelled Shmi wrong, but I understand where you are coming from. ;)

I don't ####### know.

CMON.

Did you take all your kiddos?

Scene was cool but not much use of the force.

Needed more slow mo 300 style.

Yeah I think taking away the mystique of Han Solo is a big mistake. The same mistake they made with Vader (though if done better that could have worked, so maybe if done well this will work). But I really don't need to see the infamous Kessel Run or how he earned Chewie's allegiance and friendship/life debt.

Yea we are going to get all of that. I kind of agree...I don't need every part of the back story. Didn't want Vader as a kid either, but they didn't ask me.

The next time I watch TLJ, I think I am going to enjoy the Luke Kylo fight scene even more.

While I enjoyed it this time, I spent too much of the scene assuming it was going to end with the "if you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can imagine" so that Luke could do for Rey what Obi did for him.

The shoulder dust off scene and using Han's line to say good bye to Kylo was money.

I'm getting a little tired of the whole preview where music crescendos to an unbearable wall of noise and base then abruptly stops thing.  Hey, it was intensely suspenseful the first 1,000 times they used it.

I had one.  It was weirdly subdued on the 80s tie-ins.  Made me wonder if the movie is going to be likewise downplaying the 80s stuff.
