Hopping on a red eye. 2 glasses of wine and a sleeping pill down. Bought this in case I need to break the glass to sleep. Haven't opened yet.

I do find it ironic that society in general, and SI in particular, can fuss and fret over the treatment and abuse of women ...but then SI issues their swimsuit edition and we all suspend those concerns and stare at the naked-as-possible ladies. I'm tempted to add "NTTAWWT," but deep down, there is something wrong with that.

it still gets slammed in some quarters, but not as much as it used to. i think S.I. softened it a bit by including ladies/models which now celebrate the diversity of the female form ... they now feature athletes, 50+ women, plus size gals (like cover girl Upton
), etc. back in the day, it was just straight up soft porn ... still is, in many respects, but ... by being more inclusive they are now as heralded as they are/were derided. such is the nature of today's social atmosphere - like "HEY, THERE ARE HALF NEKKID CHIX IN THAT SPORTS MAG!!!! oooohhh, but some are plus size, some 'minority', some athletes, some older gals ... YAYYYY, S.I. !!! WE'RE ALL BEAUTIFUL!!!"
btw, have you ever taken a gander at ESPN's Body Issue? just as scandalous (hell, Raisman was full on nude in the last one) ... but it celebrates POWER AND FORM! (winkwink)

The rhetoric has changed. I wish they would hurry up and find the courage to go topless - I mean, not just body paint or sheer/mesh, but show the full female shape as God (or the best surgeons in California) made it.
I feel like they have been inching closer and closer my whole life - it's been like a 30 year long tease.
ETA: Bianca Balti is as close as I've ever seen in SI.

Dear SI,
I am the librarian for the Saint Pius Parochial School. You can imagine how shocked I was to see your "swimsuit" issue. It was basically soft core pornography. I cannot let the children see such smut. I am canceling my subscription to Sports Illustrated effective immediately. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
