Thought I lost an eye (1 Viewer)

prosopis

Arizona Chupacabra
Working out the other night I was using some resistance bands. Arthritis in my hands makes it very difficult to do pull ups. I had a short resistance band with two handles thrown over a pull up bar and I was simulating pull ups with this band. Pulling the handles down to my waist and then back up. Pretty much a revers curl. As I was pulling down I was looking where the band was looping over the pull up bar. I was thinking this seems like a bad idea if that snaps I am gonna be in troub......... thats when it snapped and blasted my left eye.

Hurt like a mother and I lost the superior half of my left eye vision. I was worried about all sorts of stuff including a retinal detachment. I saw two doctors and was told I have bleeding and swelling in the retina. When I first get up in the morning I have a shadow in superior vision which does improve as day goes on. I am told this will improve when blood and bruising go away.

Stay away from those exercise bands. Dangerous stuff. I was really frightened I lost an eye and I feel lucky.

* I probably couldnt do 4 pullups even with out the arthritis. :bag:

Minor league ball player, I think with the Phillies org, had this happen to him recently. Lost an eye when a band snapped back at him.

The avg FBG would have had $500 Maui Jims on.

MarvinTScamper (the 81 post wonder :headbang:  ) will settle for nothing less than Bentley Platinum Sunglasses  @ $45,276

I'm more of a fan of the DeWalt safety glasses.

Short story: Protect your eyes!

Happened to me 4 years ago. The band snapped and hit me directly in the right eye. After rolling around on the floor for a minute, in excruciating pain, I looked in the mirror and saw the blood pooling in my eye (the amazing this was that I could see). Weird thing was the blood was almost immediately reabsorbed. Saw an eye specialist within an hour and was told the pressure in my eye was so high I could lose it. Spent the next week on bed rest to prevent any chance of raising the pressure and the next 18 months using steroid, anti-pressure, and pain relief eye drops. In the past two months I've finally been able to wear a contact lens without pain.

I'll never touch an exercise band again.

holy ####

i might never wear a rubber or listen to music even after reading this

matter of fact #### tires, too

Glad you're ok. Eye stuff freaks me out, a little. I always hated eye surgery day. Creepy. Can't even imagine sitting there, half-awake, watching somebody bringing a scalpel up to my eye. Worst fear ever.

Bro I'm the same exact way! I've always thought about LASIK know a bunch of people who've done it. But I know for a fact I'll pass right the #### out knowing they are actively cutting into my eye. I'm super queasy with the kind of stuff.

Buddy of mine damn near lost an eye when a bungee cord he was pulling on slipped and the other end sprung back and got him in the eye.  I'm always extra cautious now with those things.

Went to the gym last night and the band that broke was still there. I took it and threw into my gym back for a reminder. I did some mit work but sat out on the sparring which sucked. I still have a shadow in my upper field of vision in the morning.

Remember there are different bands ratings

Do not use a light band and over stretch it for resistance. Get a heavier band

They gave me a little teddy bear and told me to squeeze it during LASIK.  LASIK only lasts 11 minutes but I was ready to tear the thing in two during the procedure.

BUT, best money I have ever spent on myself in my life.  20 years of wearing glasses was over in 11 minutes and I haven't needed a correction since (had it in 2009).
