i'm looking forward to seeing what this kid can do.
he's really undervalued in dyno imo.
his dash is about the same as dak prescott's, but his agility is way better. he strikes me as the type of QB who will run his way comfortably into QB2 territory and even have low end QB1 / "what the heck" upside in some weeks.

With luck the Rams D will make him look bad and keep the price down for buyers.

He looked truly special at times. Obviously he's going to make some mistakes, and for sure he's got that Brett Favre confidence in his arm that's going to cause some INTs, but his upside is out of this world. His best plays all looked effortless. Being coached by Andy Reid will be huge.

Was it just me or did his release seem a little slow? He seemed to have a slight wind up. Or for sure he slaps the ball before he throws, which can mean the difference between a good play and a bad play. Seem to have good accuracy with the mid-range passes, but was off on several deep balls.The Jacket said:

That was noticeable. A couple of the errant deep throws that I saw included Von Miller bearing down on him, so that might have had something to do with it.
But just go look at the play at the 8:13 mark of that video... ARM. TALENT. That play made me mumble "no way" under my breath as I watched it. (Followed, of course, by the bonehead rookie play just 2 plays later).
The arrow is pointing way up on this guy. I would be very excited if I were a Chiefs fan, knowing that I have Mahomes, Hunt, and Hill for the next few seasons.

I agree, I really like him. Peyton Manning's foot work was terrible his rookie year, so he has areas of improvement. I love his mid range accuracy and arm strength.

Obviously made some mistakes, but nearly 300 yards and a game winning drive is a solid rookie debut - especially considering his supporting cast of 2nd string WRs, a 2nd string OL, and a fullback as the primary ball carrier. There are definite areas for improvement, but he has the ability to make plays that few NFL QBs can.
In 2018 Smith is due $20.5MM and the Chiefs are currently looking at -$4MM in cap space - I think it's easy to put 2 and 2 together there. Get a pick or two by trading him to a QB-needy team, get some salary cap breathing room, and give the super-talented young guy the keys to the offense. He's going to do some scary stuff with Hill and Kelce.

Anyone feel Mahomes can finish just as good (or better) than Alex Smith? Or how about anywhere close?
Smith was top 4 in points and top 5 in points per game for QB's in my league. In that offense with a better arm to stretch tyriik hill I'm expecting some big games

Can’t imagine the WRs having less value than when Smith was throwing to them. Didn’t he have a year where he didn’t throw a td to a wr all year?
It’s too early for me to dive into rankings for next year but I’d say it’s likely that Mahomes will be top 10 for me. I love his talent, and he walks right into a great situation surrounded by a ton of talent. He’ll likely be inconsistent but I think we will see some monster weeks throughout the year.

Another x-factor here is what does KC add to the offense...Hunt-Kelce-Hill are a big 3 but after that there is a big gap...they could really use a few more weapons overall, especially since they are going with a rookie QB...it is easy to be high on Mahomes right now...he is in a great spot and it feels like every report from him the past year has been a positive...if KC makes a splash or 2 this offseason and adds a few more weapons Mahome's value could really increase...

@Boston - if the Chiefs can add a few extra pass catchers in free agency or in the draft this offense could be truly special.Boston said:

Sean Payton had a pretty strong grade on Mahomes last year, and it sounds like the Saints did not have any quarterbacks from the 2018 draft class graded higher than Mahomes:

I'm kind of excited about him. You know what I'm not excited about?
Losing OC Nagy and replacing him with Eric Bieniemy, an ex-RB and RB coach with couple years OC experience at an incredibly ####ty Colorado team (4 wins in 2 years).
KC offense sputtered and was recharged when Nagy took over the play calling from Reid. Now they have Andy and from everything I read, a really fine cheerleader in Bieniemy.
Cause for pause.

Andy Reid is one of the better coaches I'd want my QB to have. Not a cause for pause to me.
Biggest negative I see is a a lot of tough weeks in his schedule next year. The 4 division games against Denver and SD with the Jags and Rams is a lot of potential rough weeks. Schedule makers did his fantasy owners no favors giving him his best division matchup, the Raiders, in week 17.

There is not a player that I am more excited to see on the field than Mahomes. Hill, Watkins, Kelce, Hunt.... At minimum we should see a pretty good highlight reel at the end of year. This kid has a missile launcher attached to his shoulder.

Thanks meno. Not concerned about week 17 though - any league that plays week 17 gets what they deserve.
Welcome and we agree on week 17. My point was that's one of the easiest weeks on his schedule and it's a wasted week for fantasy. When the schedule came out I hoped he'd get Denver or SD that week.

I'm leery of Mahomes, at least as far as this season is concerned. I don't quite get the hype off the week 17 game last season. He might not be ready.
I think Mahomes' FF outlook in 2018 is anywhere from a disaster to a decent FF starter. I believe he's most likely to be in the range of inconsistent with the potential to have some really nice weeks sprinkled in. In other words, a decent FF backup.

Pretty much every qb in Andy Reid’s offenses and the guys he’s drafted have been good ffl qbs. I’m a believer.

I would tend to agree. I think there will be some bumps and bruises along the way with Mahomes, but I don’t think Reid would have jettisoned the steady if not spectacular Smith if they didn’t think the kid could step in right away.

I'm not as much a disbeliever as I am Mahomes being ready right now.
I think there's at least a decent chance he'll struggle in 2018. Longterm outlook remains somewhat positive for me, though.
