Things You Look Forward To (1 Viewer)

ChiefD

Footballguy
What is it you look forward to? You work, you live, you raise families. But what are the things you look forward to? The thing you work everyday towards? The things that keep you going every day because you have something to look forward to?

Me:

1. Pine Terrace. A resort north of Brainerd, MN. Ten glorious days each June with no TV, no phones, no iPads, no distractions. Me, my kids, my wife, my brothers, cold beer, great fishing, bonfires, and complete quiet. I can see the stars here.

2. A date with my wife. So infrequent due to busy schedules, but so important for us. She is still smoking hot, and still can look at me in that way that makes me realize I won the lottery that day I met her.

3. Kids sporting events. To watch the pure joy when they run, and try their hardest, and succeed or fail. It's all in there, and every game is an adventure.

4. Muskie fishing in Wisconsin in August. 4 days for just me, floating down a river with a cooler of beer, catching 20" smallies all day and an occasional 40+" muskie.

5. My kids when I come home from work everyday: "Hi, daddy."

That's all I need.

I look forward to getting my job situation figured out. My family has been wonderful in all of this. Just don't like the uncertainty.

Preface: I don't have kids

1. Seeing my wife at the end of the work day (I love her very much and am always happy to see her smiling face when I / she gets home).

2. The yearly vacation at Emerald Isle, NC. with my brother and sister. That's the one week each year that I get to spend unlimited time with the nieces and nephews. All of them are still young so I burp and fart out loud on purpose just to get reactions from them about proper manners. I also get to cook for everybody and it's rather nice to be complimented by the kids about how I make otherwise gross food, "Yummy."

3. #3 from the OP.

I will add that, sometimes, my "kids" don't come out on top. That's when I'm there to let them know that you can't win them all. I have no desire to be critical, the parents do that enough, much to my dislike occasionally. However, I always let them know they just need to keep working hard and things will turn around. So while the parents can be harsh, I prefer to highlight the good and have them build on those accomplishments.

4. The in-person magic football draft at my house each August. This will be our 15th year and it has morphed from an affair where we would stay up all night into a huge family event for all the owners. I lay out a huge spread and have tweaked the entertainment for the kids over the years. It's went from a bunch of guys getting wasted to a kid's carnival over the years.

5. The IMSA race at Virginia International Speedway. Used to go to Mid-Ohio in Lexington, but, like everything else, I've adapted.

Just my :2cents:

:banned:

Watching my kids perform or in any of their activities. Another softball game tomorrow night for my 7 year old. Watching the joy she shows playing is awesome. Witnessing the amazing creativity of my older daughter, in her music, drawing, and writing..Just wow.

Taking the first piss of the day into the creek below, while my dogs chase squirrels

Watching the Astros

Going to or making a movie

Having some tequila and weed and watching Netfix until 2 in the morning

Flying first class and trying to make up the price difference through free alcohol consumption (Not as bad as trying to have enough free drinks at the casino to cover my craps losses)

Catching fish (just fishing isn't enough anymore)

Cornholing across the country

1) At a different life stage now - used to be spending time with all 3 of my kids as they were growing up, coaching baseball + other activities. Filled the calendar.  Now it's seeing them turn into great young adults and starting lives on their own post college.  I'm looking forward to each next stage.  Career progression, weddings, grandkids, etc.

2) Being happy and content with wife of 30 years.  She would win some of the "hottest" polls in this forum, and more than that she has a heart of gold.  Look forward to growing older with her.

3) Seeing my 100 lb Chocolate Lab basically come out of his skin being so excited to see me walk in after a road trip.  Look forward to taking him on long walks and playing fetch at the park.

4) Annual fantasy football draft.  Same guys for 20 years.  This year going back to Vegas.  It's an event.

5) Annual 24 guy golf tournament.  5 days each year in Palm Springs area.  Ryder Cup format.  On our 26th year.

6) Vacations - I'm big on life experiences vs anything material, so I like to have fun and explore.  Took our kids on vacations every year since they were little, and sorta bummed it's getting tougher to take them

7) Concerts.  Go to lots of them.  Can't wait for summers to see shows at the Hollywood Bowl, Greek, Santa Barbara Bowl, etc.  Nothing better.

8) Golf.  Joined a Club and it's how I clear my head.

9) Kentucky Derby/Breeder's Cup.  Playing less horses these days but still love the big events.

10) See #9.  We do a 15-20 guy 3 day trip in Del Mar every August that is off the hook.  Male bonding at it's finest.

11) Retirement - or the day I can finally say I'm done if I want to be done.

When I worked in the corporate world, I always had to look forward to things to keep sane during the day. Seeing my wife and kids. Weekends. Vacations. Pretty much everything already mentioned.

But since leaving the corporate world, I enjoy every hour of every day, and no longer look forward to things. I look to the here and now, because that's where I am and where I want to be.

I look forward to our home remodel being complete, so we can move out of this place we are in temporarily and get our domestic jigsaw puzzle put back together.

I also look forward to leaving my current job for whatever comes next. There are some good possibilities, but waiting on them to come to fruition has been torture.

I am looking forward to going to Punta de Mita Mexico this fall with my wife, my best friend and his girlfriend/common law wife to celebrate his 50th birthday.

This. I expect a job offer or two, for jobs I am absolutely excited for, in the next few weeks.

Seeing my kids involved in activities volunteering and happy and how different they all are. Our oldest volunteers a lot through church, our 2nd does a lot of "nerdy" stuff at school, 3rd loves to run and karate, 4th is just getting into baseball but loves it.

Bringing our daughter home from China (should be in a few months). so yes, if you're following I'm between jobs with 4 sons and close to finalizing the adoption of our 5th child.

finally calling one place "home" after moving every few years for the past couple decades.

My wife.  For being awesome through everything. And hot still.

Surprisingly, seeing my in laws every few weeks.  They're great grandparents, have always been good to me, and are some of the best people I know.

A long hike or jog in the woods.

Our annual vacation in the fall to the beach.

The few minutes of quiet every night before we fall asleep.

Running on a cool morning in Florida

Hiking someplace new

Coming home

Trip to Vegas next week

Trip to Hawaii in December

Pretty much any time away where I get to spend some time with Mrs. Osaurus

Annual NFL Draft Poker Party:  It was better from an entertainment standpoint when the teams picked the first round on Saturday, but oh well.

Bringing my kids places.  We like to travel.  Need to make more money so I can blow it traveling more.

Sitting on my deck before the mosquitos get so bad you can't do it anymore.  So now until about May 15....and then again in September.

i look forward to seeing my kids and my wife and the first snowfall of the year and the first nice day of spring and a good sunday hike in the fall on a warm day when the leaves are turning i look forward to seeing old friends and the first sip of a cold one from my garage fridge when i am walking inside after i get home from work on friday i look forward to paying off a bill that i have been working on for a while and i look forward to beating things that have been giving me trouble in my life i look forward to mowing my lawn and spending a little quality tractor time i look forward getting out west where there are mountains and the sky is so beautiful that it almost hurts to look at it i look forward to a roadtrip and the last hour when you know you are getting close and i look forward to a ice cream at a drive in with a couple of little angels in the back seat going crazy and asking why the waitresses are rollerskating i look forward to family gatherings when someone just got back from the service and everyone comes out and you realize as you are all sitting in lawn chairs telling stories from a long time ago and cracking jokes that this might be the last time you see some of these spinsters and you take a sip and just enjoy listening to them and hearing what they were about i look forward to giving someone advice about something i know like cars or fixin stuff and having them tell me the following monday that it was true and thanks for the help and they saved a couple of bucks in short i look forward to being useful to someone even though i am not the brightest bulb out there i look forward to the first sip of a hot cup of coffee especially in the summer when i can stand outside while the dew is still down and a chill in the air and it is natures rush hour and every bird is singing to greet the new day i look forward to a nice glass o lemonade on a hot day and i look forward to sitting in a river catching fish on a hot day when the water cools you down and the pines above you make the best cathedral god ever put together thats the path of brohan in a nutshell bromigos and take that to the we all have a hell of a lot to look forward to every day bank

my daughter using her gifts to the fullest - her singing and ballet and jazz and tap and piano and violin and guitar and (now) running track and her performances in plays - but, most of all, seeing her happy and healthy.

seeing my gf make progress with the developmentally disabled children she works with - she's really making a difference in their lives, and i am so glad that she gets as much out of it as the kids do - so damn proud to have her in my life.

watching my gf and daughter bond via the arts - the talents they share are remarkable - that mother/daughter bond is amazing.

taking my daughter by the hand on excursions through the City - museums, galleries, plays, landmarks (most recently the Irish Famine Memorial) - seeing her wonderment at all i've taken for granted all these years has rejuvenated my love affair with my home town.

doing what i love for a living, and being able to provide my family financial security.

and, yeah ... cracking a few cold ones on a sunny Saturday in my yard - nothing like kicking back when all is good, and you're feeling blessed.

Keep hanging in there shady. I wish I had more wisdom to share with you but would just add that there are good things in this life worth experiencing. Maybe you can seek joy for yourself by providing joy to others.
I've been managing little league and enjoying it more than I thought I would. Never would've done that prior years.

1. Free time to do with as I please.

2. Time with the kids and activities that bring joy.

3. Life experiences - whatever they may be.

4. Writing - (I'm almost done writing a novel, and even if it sucks, I love doing it and want to finish it.)

5. Hobbies - making mead, sauerkraut and baking. Going hunting and fishing. Going to concerts.

6. Travel

7. Time with friends and family and no drama

8. Watching the kids grow and do amazing things

9. Exercising and feeling good afterward

10. Experiencing positive energy and avoiding the negative out there

Great! Maybe you can take up herding cats as well! lol

I coached a bit of my son's soccer game the other day when the high school kid who was supposed to do it was late, and I about lost my mind. Haha

i say with complete sincerity that i think you are inspiring and i find strength in yours and how you have fought so please keep it up

Hate to see this from a good dude.

I bet your little boy gives you joy.
He does but there really is no such thing as pure joy anymore. Every time I smile I am sad behind the smile. For example, my son is receiving his First Communion on May 6 and we are throwing a big party for him. I am looking forward to it a little bit but I am also dreading it as that was supposed to be our daughter's 1st birthday party as well and is actually a year to the day she suffered her stroke. Didnt mean to hijack this thread and I hope people keep posting what brings them joy as I enjoy reading them.

Week at the beach with my wife, daughter and grandson.

Times when my wife visits her mother/family so I can have the house to myself for a few days of peace and quiet.

Taking some afternoons off of work to go play golf.  Love the serenity of a late afternoon when I have the course to myself along with a nice drink and cigars.

Football season (college and NFL).

More grandchildren!

Hanging out with the family

How excited my kids are when I get home from work

Nights out with the wife

Watching my kids grow up

I look forward to the day SWC learns to use paragraphs.
on the plus side you will probably always have that to look forward to so bam swc giving you a ray of hope every day take that to the bank broany loves brochachi

Since my daughters don`t live at home anymore I look forward to when they text me and say "Daddy daughter date tonight?"

Happy Hour with my wife at a local pub we frequent..we try to do this once a week.

My golf league.  Been pretty much the same 40 guys for over 25 years..golf, drink a few beers and hear the same stale jokes year after year. When the league started most of us were single or just got married..now some are grandparents.

Spring, summer and fall in Michigan.  Love the seasons change.

Good posting - one thing I'm not very good at is staying IN THE MOMENT.  I have a great life, great family but for some reason I have trouble with that.

Teach me Spock!

I can read this, but when I get to line six or seven in a sea of brohanmanship,  it's all runs together and i lose my place and have to start over again. Missing out on some taking it to the bank can really suck. Take that to the bank master Bromigo.

May 14th for my little girl, I'm sure our parties will look similar, lol.

I can't fathom what you're going through but try to stay positive and strong for your family. You guys are in my prayers.

I look forward to Friday nights when the wife and I both get home. We see each other every night, unless I'm working late, but it's not the same as a Friday with the weekend ahead of us and we have all that time to hang out with each other.

I look forward to the next voiceover job that comes in. I love doing them and you never know what the next one will be, whether it's just a corporate read or a fun character. When an email comes in asking if I'm available, I can't wait to see what it is.

Always look forward to vacation, we do about 4-5 a year, but the first on in May is the best because my wife works crazy hours and weekends at home from like October to May and she's finally all caught up and ready to relax. This year it's Hawaii. Looking forward to seeing Pearl Harbor.

Long term, hopefully not too long, I'm looking forward to retirement. Not that either of us will fully retire, I'll continue with VO until I can't talk anymore and my wife plans on getting some of her own clients doing accounting work. The plan is to move out west, maybe Wyoming or Idaho area, and enjoy a relaxing life growing old together.

Looking forward to getting a dog again. It's been too many years without one. Maybe by the end of this year.

Travelling is one of life's greatest joys.  Been to Maui and Spokane this year so far.  Next up, Cape Cod in May, NYC in June, and Puerto Vallarta in October.

We went to Cape Cod for the first time only a few years ago and loved it! So much better than expected.

Picking up my daughter from after school

• face lights up

• drops whatever she is doing

• runs into my arms

She's 8, third grade

It's the best moment of any day

Are you familiar with Librivox.org?

They are a site of audiobooks from the public domain, read by anyone who cares to make the effort. Some are great, some suck.

You would probably have some fun doing that and you could point us to the results.

Thanks...yes, I'm familiar with them. I've done a couple of audiobooks in the past but I'm not really a fan of them, listening to or narrating. Mostly because of the editing involved. I would probably go to a studio and read one if the money was right and the editing was done by someone else. Just a lot of work for limited pay, unless you really become a big name in the genre.

- When my wife takes the kids somewhere for a little while and leaves me at home by myself and I can watch porn on the big screen.

- Movie releases of something I want to see in the theater

- Live FFL drafts

- Dessert
