Quiet Clubbing? WTF? (1 Viewer)

A GB was partying in NYC recently and described a party he went to where it was a "quiet" party where everyone wore headphones..

like this:

WTF is this?   I see how it could be a workaround for cruise ships, rooftop bars after hours or similar odd situations...  but it still seems really odd.

How is this a thing?

Everyone still dances all over each other, they still get drunk, but they get to listen to whatever music gets them going. If they want to chat they can take off headphones and take a break.

Seems brilliant.

Aren't they all listening to the same music? It's when you want to go to a party but just to rock out. Also, drugs.

No. There are usually 2-3 DJ's each playing different styles. Each headset can switch to whichever DJ you choose. Each headset usually has a color that lights up for each DJ frequency. So you can see you fellow blue or red channel people. You can switch back and forth as easily and as often as you please with the click of a button on the headset.

Got it. So there are other people there listening to exactly what you are. Just a way to hear the music better when you're inside. They're all doing molly so it's all about the music. I'm sure there are places to yap if you want to.

I've heard about this.

It started a few years ago. I remember reading an article about it.

So you know who are the Fox viewers and who is into CNN?

Silent disco is nothing new
You're right, after googling it I see it's been around awhile, though more recently it's attained growth through the wireless headsets and ability to have multi station headphones.

I can't imagine partying with people listening to different music, or wearing dumb headphones.

Feels like the equivalent of going to a strip club where there aren't dancers but everyone is there just watching different online porns on their tablets.

Initial thought was dang millennials, what will they turn to next... clubbing with blindfolds?  But after seeing how it works it actually seems pretty cool.

If you want to talk to someone just take off the headset.  And while you'll still hear a bunch of off key goobers singing loudly, you won't hear blaring music during your conversation.

when I first started hearing about this, part of the appeal of this kind of thing to the organziers and participants was that they didn't need a giant, soundproof room to have their club. they were happening outdoors, in cool and/or scenic areas you'd never think of being a place to go clubbing.

seems like one of those obvious and non-befuddling things that inexplicably bunches the panties of guys... I'd assume... who never really went clubbing in the first place.

my main issue at a guess (because I'm old and tired and can't do loud music any more), is that my ears would get extra hot.

I'm really looking forward to the first wedding I attend where this is how they do the loud music and dancing portion. I can't dance and hate really loud music, especially when I'm trying to have a conversation.  I'd say I'm getting old, but I was just born this way.

Seriously though, this seems like one of those things where years from now, people will laugh at how clubbing used to be done. It would be cool if threads like this were still around then so they can laugh at the old timers and their  .

I'm in a demographic somewhat older than those who might regularly go to such clubs.  I'm waiting for hearing aid clubs. Low music, distribute upgraded hearing aids at the door, a place to park my walker. Cocktails incorporating Metamucil or Geritol. Oh, and strippers and blow.

I can't wait to hit one of these..I already dance like I am listening to a completely different song, so this is perfect for me!

I only hit this thread cuz it was Dentist & thought quiet clubbing might be sumn you do with Cleveland girls, like nerf-batting them while they munch your lunch or them pretending they're baby seals or.........

Lol at all the nerds in here who would never club anyway pretending this is where they draw a line.

The music's already too loud at clubs anyway. Headphones set to 5 clicks or lower helps prevent hearing loss. :geezer:

I partied in my day.. and sure it was annoying that you couldn't talk to people because it was too damn loud..  but you went there for the music anyway.

This idea seems like the way they depicted sex in "Demolition Man"  whereby people put on headsets and virtually banged...

Headphone parties....  just seems dumb.   Again I would get it on a cruise ship or rooftop bar after sound curfew hours or at a public park or something...  still would feel kind of lame..,. and i think especially the idea that you aren't even listening to the same thing as someone else.

I think all those opposed to this would appreciate it. Quiet club vs loud obnoxious club at 1am when you want to sleep. (Obvious caveat is that FBGs live in gated communities and would never live near a club)

Well, it would be kinda nice to actually talk to someone at a venue that has loud music.
Exactly.  I think it's brilliant.  If you meet somebody and want to talk you just take off the headphones.  It was a nightmare trying to talk to girls in a club and I was always a ####ty dancer so I had no shot.  Had they had this I feel like I would have had a prayer.

This I can support.

I haven't gone clubbing since college, never really liked not being able to follow a conversation.  But this concept is straight up my alley. Clubs suck

One of my favorite parts of clubbing was that it was so loud you didn't really have to talk with the broads. You just tripped hard on ecstasy and rubbed each other.
