Didn't tweak this as much as usual:

Brady/Stafford - Usually don't roll with just 2 Qbs, but I usually get knocked out after a couple weeks, so I might as well try something different.

DJ/McCaffrey/Prosise/Rawls/Rex/D.Lewis/K.Williams - basically just taking a stab at a few teams that I think will run the ball well

T.Hill/Parker/T.Williams/Hogan/Ginn/P.Rich/Galladay - going boom/bust best ball picks.

Henry/Ertz/Kittle -

Dawson/Walsh/Gonz -

Texans/Titans/Bears - I like Houst, and their division is atrocious, hence the Tenn pick.  Bears are just a cheap D I think could be good after a few weeks.

25 players, $250 spent.

Hit the hurricane angle hard. 7 players and $102 in dead money this week. Hoping to survive the week because :

Good match up for Bradford.

Leveon, Hyde, Julio, Benjamin, Jimmy Graham and three good kickers.

Best possible cut score week 1

I'm frankly more concerned with getting through the session with a 19 man roster.

I definitely like that you are willing to gamble a bit, though I think there's a really good chance you miss the cut this week.  You're going to have to flex 2 out of 3 from Smallwood, West and Golladay, which is obviously not ideal.  I'm surprised you couldnt find $2 somewhere so you are not taking a guaranteed zero at defense.  If you make it through week 1 you'll have a good shot due to the firepower of your stud players.

No hurricanes for me.... first time I ditched Evans was in my last list. Before this was announced.

I feel good because well this is a 8000-1 dice roll anyway! Also because 15 games with no bye week the negatives outweigh the positives in my opinion.

Lol curious for the numbers to get locked in so I can see if anyone else was as crazy as me this year or if I have another 50%+ unique roster.

Qb -19

Stafford-I think he can keep me competitive most weeks.

Hoyer-Just get me through Staffords bye please

RBs -96

Gordon

Montgomery

Hyde

Kelly

Hunt

Rawls

West

Went with RBs I thought would get the bulk of the carries for their teams.

WRs-101

Landry

D.Jackson

R.Matthews

Beasley

Woods

Sanu

T,Benjamin

Hogan

Stills

Rogers

T.Smith

Wright

Richardson

Golladay

J.Brown

Went with quantity over quality.Hoping out of the 15 can get at least 3 decent scores.

TE-24

Walker

Brate

Weak spot here hoping Wrs quantity and RBs can make up for it

K-6

Dawson

Hauschka

D-4

Saints

49ers

I know they suck.

Went with 30 this year seems like I have gone further when I have had max rosters.

Wilson Wentz Hoyer

Too chicken to go 2 Qbs

Bell Ajai Gillislee&Burkhead Hunt&West Smallwood

Heavy Rb $99 thin WR

Too chicken to take Jamaal or ADP

Baldwin Bryant Ginn Hogan Richardson Goodwin

Best ball boom / bust

Ertz Fleener ASJ

Leveraged on Fleener improvement in NO.  Fleener Ginn combo is a vote against NO RBBC and Thomas as elite.

Sturgis Dawson Walsh

$3 value

Steelers Panthers Saints

Positive regression all 3

Big roster and heavy RB vs prior years

Hmm, lost track of time from half a world away. But I'll have to roll with, after entirely too many changes

Rock Chalk

This entry is still alive.

Stafford, Mariota - messed around with the 2nd qb for a long time, had Cam/staff for a while, then MM and Cam but needed the two bucks elsewhere.

Gordon, Gurley, Henry, Hunt, Cohen, Smallwood, Juszczyk, West - Henry, Hunt and Cohen never really left my roster. Some will say Henry is overpriced but he's a guy who will win this thing with the right breaks. Might have too many backs.

Cooks, Crowder, Parker, Hogan, Robby Anderson, Taywan Taylor, Richardson - honestly don't love this group but I do like the cooks / Hogan combo. Too much risk at a position I usually play conservatively.G

Graham, Ertz, Fleener - I've gone back and forth on fleener but he has talent, another year with Brees, and I think he can be good.

Walsh, Rosas, Zuerlein - don't like sharing a bye but in the end I didn't like any of the kickers other than Walsh without a week 8 bye enough to take then over Rosas

Rams, Saints - Rams should be a good value and I simply like the saints week 8 matchup better than the others I wanted.

Honest prediction, I'm out in week 8. Gurly, the Titans and 2 kickers sharing a bye isn't ideal. But if I make it through that, it's all about luck anyway.

First, my annual plea: PLEASE don't just post your lineup.  After a few posts of long lists of names, they all just run together.  Give us some comments/insight into your strategy and it's much more valuable.

As for mine, I ended up with:

QB:

Winston (1)
Dalton (6)

Had Ben and Dalton almost from the beginning.  Played around with adding Goff as an insurance policy, but decided the 2 QB risk was more likely to produce a winner.  When the Miami/TB switch was announced, I decided switching to Winston was almost as safe as a 3rd QB because there was no 2nd bye to cover.

RB:

D. Johnson (8)
Cook (9)
Powell (11)
Hunt (10)
Smallwoood (10)

A superstud and 3 guys capable of putting up a big score for the other spot.  I'm guessing Hunt will be on 90% of the teams, but how can you not add him at that price? Smallwood is a flier--if he manages to replace Blount, he could be a difference maker.  With my main 4 guys having different byes, if he doesn't, I'm not hurt.

WR:

Evans (1)
Parker (1)
T. Williams (9)
Hogan (9)
Anderson (11)
Wright (9)
Richardson (6)
Golladay (7)

Have to have a ton of WRs in bestball.  I had 9 for quite a while, but cut Jaron Brown to move up to Evans.  Struggled with byes for a long time because it seemed every "value" WR was either a week 9 or 11 bye.  The TB/Miami switch solved that issue and I was able to add Parker (cutting Crowder and saving $2) to go with Evans.  Still have 3 guys on bye Week 9, but should be Ok with my two top guys and 3 others available.  Hogan will probably be on almost as many teams as Hunt, so taking him is more defensive than anything.  Went with Wright and Anderson as the "somebody has to catch passes there" options--they should have a few good weeks each just on volume.

TE:

Olsen (11)
Rudolph (9)
Ertz (10)

At the 1.5 ppr, each of these guys should produce points equal to WRs or RBs costing $8-12 more than them.  Gronk and Kelce were too rich for my blood, but these 3 shouldn't lose much to them.  I'm thinking most of my flex scores will come from here. I had Graham for a while, but the TB/Miami switch took away enough bye week issues I felt comfortable moving back to Olsen.

K:

Sturgis (10)
Dawson (8)
Zuerlein (8)

Not sure how I managed to take Zuerlein--I planned on Gonzalez specifically to avoid the bye conflict with Dawson and must have somehow checked the wrong box when I was making my changes to free up the $1 for the switch to Olsen.  Of course, when I did my last minute check, I didn't bother scrolling down far enough to check kickers.  Hopefully, it won't come back to bite me, since DJ is my only other Week 8 bye.  Who knows, maybe it will help cover my Week 9 byes?

D:

Cleveland (9)
Detroit (7)
New Orleans (5)

Played around with more expensive Ds, including going with TB and Miami (figuring they'd both be active every week so a 3rd D wouldn't be needed).  In the end, I kept coming back to feeling the best use of money was elsewhere on extra RBs and WRs and went with 3 $2 Ds.

Did Parker become the most popular receiver? Maybe just the guys posting here.

ETA - second to Hogan perhaps?

I was switching back and forth between Parker and Tyrell Williams up until the last minute, had Tyrell for most iterations. Went with Parker in the end due to his upside and week 1 BYE.

Yep. Pretty much the same here (although not ty) and I suspect most teams.

Russell Wilson        $20
Carson Wentz          $11

QBs - really just all in on Wilson here, had a couple of iterations with other backups, including Winston and even Hoyer, but liked Wentz's upside
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Christian McCaffrey   $19
Dalvin Cook           $17
Carlos Hyde           $16
Kareem Hunt           $10
Wendell Smallwood      $3

Biggest gamble I took was with RBs - just looking to save money here, and hoping for consistent high floors, while conceding high ceilings here.  Big risk with the rookies.  Hyde is the guy I ultimately decided on as my non-top-10 runner from last year who will crack the top-10 this year.  Smallwood simply a gamble that he becomes a factor later in the season.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jordy Nelson          $31
Brandin Cooks         $26
Amari Cooper          $25
Chris Hogan            $5
Paul Richardson        $3
Marquise Goodwin       $3

Went with three "sure" things from teams I expect to be throwing a lot, and then three hail mary's.  I hope that between Cooks and Hogan I will have the NE leading WR each week - even if Brady spreads the wealth (outside of Gronk).  I had a lot of different looks here, and truth be told, I was coming in this morning to take another look - forgetting that the contest locked last night.  There were obviously a lot of decent low-priced options here.  Previous iterations had two #1s, and then used the money to get a mid-priced WR and 2-3, low cost WRs.  I was thinking that 3 #1's might provide more consistent top scores each week.  Time will tell.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jimmy Graham          $18
Zach Ertz             $13
Evan Engram            $8

I like all these guys, and expect at least 2 to score every week.  Graham was a late addition - I had been going with a lower level 3rd TE, and that may come back to haunt me - as I had used the extra money on more cheap WRs - to give better odds on one hitting in any given week.  So, I will need Graham to be a consistent 20+ point performer.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mason Crosby           $5
Blair Walsh            $3

Meh - 2 kickers on teams I expect to score a lot.  Normally I am a 3-kicker guy, but opted to use the extra $3 elsewhere (on a few iterations I did add Zuerlein for $2)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seattle Seahawks       $8
New England Patriots   $6

Again, normally a 3-Defense guy, I thought Seattle is going to have a great defense this year, and the Patriots play Buffalo and Jets 4 times this year (including week 6 when Seahawks are on bye).

True. I don't even bother looking if there isn't some strategy posted along with them.

QB - I know Dalton is a popular pick, but I think he's going to get crushed behind that spotty OL. He seemed pricey @ $12.

RB - I figure Smallwood is going to be very popular here with Blount getting negative press and Smallwood getting some buzz. I also felt obligated to find a way to squeeze Hunt into my roster even though I'm not terribly high on him as a player.

WR - I've got several of these guys, but removed Anderson when they added Kearse and Kerley. When Meredith went down I couldn't pass on Wright.

TE - I couldn't pull the trigger on Olsen at $19 (and I have my concerns about him losing targets this year), but I'm with you about the 1.5ppr. Ertz is a must-have, IMO.

K/D - I'm all about the 3 each strategy. They're too cheap not to. I don't understand people who have two $5 players. Seems like three $2-$3 guys would be better. I went with Walsh (SEA - week 6) instead of Dawson to space out my byes better, but I also had Sturgis and Zuerlein.

ETA: I forgot to say, the primary problem is that you are 6 players short of a proper roster!

I wish they would have announced the change for Miami vs Tampa today in hindsight. Parker never left my team because I think Cutler will force it too him.

I had Cleveland, but then upgraded my RB to Hyde instead. Definitely gambling on week 1,but nobody remembers who came in second.

I haven't had a chance to read through this thread, but my guess is that these are the most popular players:

RB - Hunt, Kelley, Smallwood... maybe Tolbert

WR - Parker, Ginn, Hogan, Wright, P Richardson, Robby Anderson... maybe Jaron Brown, but his hype faded quickly.

I only took Hunt, Hogan, Wright, Richardson, and Jaron. I still think Kelley loses that job. I think Ginn still can't catch and Brees will get frustrated. Parker will forever be overrated (I actually wanted to grab Stills but couldn't fit him in - had so many WRs already), and Robby was a late cut.

I don't know if anyone else was paying attention, but Doyle became a must have for me when Swoope went to the IR. Doyle had been on my radar from the beginning but the Swoope hype had me a little worried and $11 ain't cheap, but when Swoope went down I had to find a way to fit Doyle in.

QB: Roethlisberger/Stafford

I think Ben is going to have a solid year if he stays healthy. Seemed like a decent value and he and Stafford have a good combined schedule throughout the season.

RB: David Johnson/Freeman/Hunt/Rawls/Jamaal Williams/Cohen

Wanted to make sure this group looked as best as I could make it. Johnson and Freeman should give me top end production. Was on Hunt the whole time, but once he was named the starter, it was a no-brainer at his price. Rawls could be a decent value as long as he is healthy. Williams and Cohen seem like they could have some value even if they don't become the lead backs.

WR: Evans/Fitzgerald/Martavis Bryant/Zay Jones/Hogan/Kupp

Evans should hold down some good value. Sucks about the Week 1 bye, but I'm hoping to make it through and will have him ready to go the rest of the way. Fitz should be solid and Bryant is an upside swing, that if he stays out of trouble could be a really nice value. Jones/Hogan/Kupp seemed like good cheap picks that all could have decent weeks here and there.

TE: Ertz/Clay/McDonald

I really like Ertz this year and the price was too good. Clay could have some TE1 weeks with not many obstacles for targets in Buffalo. McDonald is a bit of a dart throw, but I think Pitt will use him once he gets acclimated in the offense.

K: Boswell/Vinatieri

Seemed like good value for both. Boswell plays on a high scoring offense and Vinatieri is on a bad team that could end up with a bunch of FGs.

DEF: Eagles/Steelers

Both defenses seem undervalued to me and could put up good weeks. Steelers D starts off with a pretty nice schedule.

QB - Marcus Mariota - TEN/8 - $16
QB - Andy Dalton - CIN/6 - $12

Love these two. Dalton has a lot of upside this year, and has a nice floor too. I'm a believer in not overspending on QB in this contest. Even though they score the most points, the 4 points/TD and lack of ability to FLEX the position leads to a lot of wasted points if you spend to heavy. Only thing I worry about is Mariota's injury risk.

RB - David Johnson - ARI/8 - $39
RB - LeVeon Bell - PIT/9 - $35
RB - Bilal Powell - NYJ/11 - $15
RB - Kareem Hunt - KC/10 - $10

The average WR and TE projects to outscore the average RB by my calculations. My strategy every year is to maximize points in the RB position, finding the best values that have a high likelihood of success, but to count on flexing out of the WR and TE positions. I also believe that cheap RBs have a higher likelihood of being wasted points than cheap WRs.

Hunt was too good of value to pass up (as I feel 80%+ people realize). David Johnson was always on my roster. For the past few weeks I've been going back and forth between Powell and Doug Martin (both $15 with same BYE), and between Bell and Dalvin Cook. I went with Powell because I decided I like his floor better, I already had a stud TB player in Mike Evans, and it sticks to my strategy of not being too risky at RB. I went with Bell (hard decision as a Florida State fan) because having both Johnson and Bell (if healthy) gives me a significant advantage at RB.

WR - Mike Evans - TB/1 - $29
WR - DeVante Parker - MIA/1 - $14
WR - Ted Ginn - NO/5 - $9
WR - Chris Hogan - NE/9 - $5
WR - Robby Anderson - NYJ/11 - $5
WR - Kendall Wright - CHI/9 - $4
WR - Paul Richardson - SEA/6 - $3
WR - Marquise Goodwin - SF/11 - $3

Strategy: 1 stud, 1 solid mid-range value, lots of darts. Evans actually wasn't a pivot due to the new Bye week, he was always on my team. I can't imagine him not having an amazing year barring injury. Hogan and Robby Anderson were also always on my team. Hogan still has his high appeal in a best ball format and recently received a likely increase in targets, while Robby Anderson is going to see high usage, even if it's in a terrible offense.

I went back and forth for quite some time between Parker and Tyrell Williams. Williams is under-priced and has a high floor, but Parker has a higher ceiling. In the end, the week 1 BYE appealed to me, and I liked how the rest of my BYE weeks looked with Parker.

Ginn is a best ball play. Don't like him much as a player, but he's going to have some great weeks. Wright is a pivot due to preseason injuries and his likely to see a high number of targets. Richardson is a best ball play.

TE - Kyle Rudolph - MIN/9 - $15
TE - Zach Ertz - PHI/10 - $13
TE - Jason Witten - DAL/6 - $10

Love these three, had them on every iteration for the past few weeks. Three players with high usage in their offenses. They should flex every now and then.

PK - Caleb Sturgis - PHI/10 - $3
PK - Greg Zuerlein - LAR/8 - $2
PK - Zane Gonzalez - CLE/9 - $2

Not too much thought in this one. Three cheap players with different bye weeks.

TD - Cleveland Browns - CLE/9 - $2
TD - Detroit Lions - DET/7 - $2
TD - New Orleans Saints - NO/5 - $2

Again, not much thought.

Stephen Holloway

This is an FBG staff entry and not eligible for prizes and does not count toward the weekly cutoffs.

Wanted to have three, started with Philip Rivers and two cheap options, but had challenges with too many players and salary sunk in week 9. Like Mariota and his bye worked well with Alex Smith a great high floor player at low cost.

  1. Marcus Mariota 8      $16
  2. Alex Smith 10          $8
  3. Brian Hoyer 11         $6
Went opposite from my standard running back strategy by including one of the top two cost running backs. More normally select multiple mid-cost options. Wanted Doug Martin all along. Had to swap out Davin Cook for Ingram, again due to my week 9 issues. One of the few that expect Ingram to have another solid season. Also think that Smallwood will bring value. Selection of Mack is much more due to lack of belief in Frank Gore, combined with very low cost and hope.

  1. LeVeon Bell 9         $35
  2. Mark Ingram 5         $19
  3. Doug Martin 1         $15
  4. Kareem Hunt 10        $10
  5. Marlon Mack 11         $4
  6. Wendell Smallwood 10   $3
Followed my standard strategy of including a combination of wide receivers that either I expect to have high and consistent targets (relative to their cost) or deep threats. Always like to have a high number of wide receivers due to their tendency to vary greatly in week to week scoring. The goal being to brother-in-law a significant number of high weekly scores.

  1. Larry Fitzgerald 8    $20
  2. DeVante Parker 1      $14
  3. Corey Coleman 9       $10
  4. Ted Ginn 5             $9
  5. Breshad Perriman 10    $8
  6. Marqise Lee 8          $6
  7. Chris Hogan 9          $5
  8. Robby Anderson 11      $5
  9. Torrey Smith 10        $4
  10. Nelson Agholor 10      $3
Wanted to build the tight end position around Rudolph and Ertz, who I expect to finish at or near top five in tight end scoring and cost quite a bit less than most of the other high ranking options. Considered Graham also. Wanted to add some cheap depth and like how Kittle appears to be in line for significant targets. Not a lot of rosters will include Hill, but I just can’t get behind Fleener and am hoping that Hill can be involved in the Saints offense more than most expect.

  1. Kyle Rudolph 9        $15
  2. Zach Ertz 10          $13
  3. George Kittle 11       $3
  4. Josh Hill 5            $2
My kickers were selected for their low cost and bye week fit. Kickers have always been difficult to project, but I value lower cost here so that I can spend elsewhere.

  1. Blair Walsh 6          $3
  2. Kai Forbath 9          $3
  3. Greg Zuerlein 8        $2
Defense strategy is similar to kickers, wanted to have several to hopefully again brother-in-law some decent weeks from obviously low ranking defenses. I am hopeful that the Saints will be improved, particularly producing turnovers. Just can’t part with the cost for the higher rated defenses.

  1. Tennessee Titans 8     $3
  2. San Francisco 49ers 11 $2
  3. Detroit Lions 7        $2
  4. New Orleans Saints 5   $2
Went with a 30-man roster this season. Love the contest and always appreciate the friendly banter and sharing of stories here in this thread. Good luck everyone and as many state each year I am hopeful that the winner can come from the faithful that post often here!

  • 7 - Stafford $13
  • 8 - Palmer $10
  • 9 - Bradford $7
12% of my budget. I am pretty high on Stafford and I think Palmer has a bounce back season. His OL was in shambles last year and his WRs sucked. Bradford was decent last year and hopefully Diggs stays healthy and Treadwell and Floyd contribute a little bit. His OL should be better, too. I know some people favor 1-2 QBs, but 3 QBs for $30 is a good deal to me.

  • 9 - Crowell $22
  • 7 - Abdullah $18
  • 1-4 Martin $15
  • 8 - Henry $13
  • 10 - Hunt $10
  • 8 - Jamaal Williams $7
With the ability to start up to four RBs I like to have at least six. I know PPR backs are popular, but in best ball I like TD guys like Crowell, Martin, Henry, and Jamaal. I am not well versed in Hunt as a prospect, but I'd say I'm luke warm on him, but I couldn't pass up his value after Ware went down. I suspect many others did the same. Jamaal seemed like a good deal with only Ty Montgomery ahead of him. Lacy was a similar player and flourished when healthy. If nothing else, I think his power and lack of fumbling will lead to some goal line touches even if Ty remains the starter for a while.

  • 9 - Keenan $21
  • 11 - Moncrief $12
  • 7 - Marvin Jones $11
  • 9 - Coleman $10
  • 9 - Hogan $5
  • 9 - Wright $4
  • 10 - Torrey $4
  • 6 - Paul Richardson $3
  • 8 - Jaron Brown $3
Yes, I'm boned in week 9. I have 7 out of 30 players on bye which is 28% of my budget, including my top RB. I didn't like it, but I'm hoping my TEs come through for me that week and I can find 2 WRs to score points. As for the actual players, I love Keenan in PPR. I think he's going to be top 5. Moncrief is unpopular but his upside is undeniable so I couldn't resist. I think Marvin rekindles that early season magic from last year. He and Keenan were the first boxes I clicked and never looked back. Coleman replaced DeSean after his week 3 preseason performance and the fact I need a few bucks for Doyle. Hogan was a last minute switch from Travis Benjamin who I consider a great best ball player. I feel like I might regret that. I would've rather had Amendola for cheaper but he didn't make the list (wtf). I felt like I had to grab Wright when Meredith got hurt. I wanted Kevin White, but $7 is expensive when you have a 30 man roster! Torrey is another great best ball player, IMO, and I don't trust Alshon to stay healthy so I'm pretty high on Torrey here. I wanted Paul or Lockett, but it sounds like Paul won the starting job, so that made my decision. I was afraid Jaron wouldn't make the list, so I was excited to see him. He's been my favorite deep sleeper for like 10 months... I think he'll be a steal.

  • 10 - Ertz $13
  • 5 - Hooper $11
  • 11 - Doyle $11
  • 11 - ASJ $6
  • 11 - Kittle $3
  • 10 - Maxx $3
With 1.5ppr I had to go heavy at TE (but never top heavy). Ertz was a no-brainer, IMO, especially after Matthews was traded. He's going to dominate the middle with Torrey and Alshon on the outside (I'm not buying the Alligator Armed Agholor hype as a reborn slot WR). Doyle was tempting, but became a must-have when Swoope went down. Hooper is a guy I'm pretty interested in. I was hoping he'd be cheaper, but I felt the need to make his $11 fit. I was really torn between Vernon Davis and ASJ. By all accounts ASJ has gotten his act together and the Jets WRs suck, so I went for it. Kittle was already on my roster, but when McDonald was traded I knew he was locked in. Maxx Williams was too cheap not to take a shot on after Pitta and Gillmore were lost for the season. I hope this group can carry me through my week 9 byes.

  • 6 - Seattle kicker $3
  • 10 - Philly kicker $3
  • 8 - Rams kicker $2
I'm all about 3 cheap kickers with alternating byes. Loved this trio for $8.

  • 8 - TEN $3
  • 9 - CLE $2
  • 7 - DET $2
$7 for 3 defenses. Done.

I always max out my roster as I'm not a fan of small rosters due to injuries and byes. The key is to hit on all your players, be they studs or cheapies. Hard to do on the cheap guys, but you need some luck to win anyway and I'm not convinced the studly looking <20 man rosters actually fare better than large rosters in the finals. I'll gladly pit a good 30 man roster against a good 18 man roster in weeks 14-16.

My final composition was as follows:

  • 3QB - 12%
  • 6RB - 34%
  • 9WR - 29%
  • 6TE - 19%
  • 3K - 3%
  • 3D - 3%

I got knocked out Week 1 last year, so just hoping to make it a bit further this year.  Went with a bit of shorter roster than I usually do.  Week 5 will probably be a challenge, but I'd rather have it be Week 5 than later on.

QBs - Brees/5, Bradford/9.

Like Brees with the early bye; he's been pretty durable and hope it stays that way.

RBs - Bell/9, McCaffrey/11, Kelley/5, Hunt/10, Conner/9.

Pairing Bell and Conner seemed to make sense given Bell's injury history.  Think Conner can put up good numbers if Bell goes down.  Otherwise, just went with what I thought were good values.

WRs - Evans/1, Cooper/10, Pryor/5, Ginn/5, Hogan/9, R.Anderson/11, K.Wright/9

Had Evans in even before the Week 1 bye change.  Last year, I went too deep without more top-end WRs.  Hoping Evans, Cooper, Pryor gives me a good top 3, and then put in some cheapish upside players at the end.

TEs - Walker/8, Clay/6, Kittle/11

I would have liked to spend a bit more here, but how the dollars fell.

Ks - Prater/7, Zuerlein/8

Meh. Kickers.

DTs - Houston/7, TB/1

Switched in TB with the Week 1 bye now.

Only one other team as stupid as me and went....

Johnson

Bell

McCoy (was prescott but couldn't do it)

Hunt

All stud and need 3 to count each week to offset my <18$ WR's

shocked 1500 took hooper and 600 too kittle those were my rare pics.

Lol over 9500 took Hunt

Did Parker become the most popular receiver? Maybe just the guys posting here.
I had Parker and DeSean Jackson locked in for at least two weeks, and was really worried about being thin in week 11. So the bye week change was a gift to a lot of people. I wouldn't worry about week 1 at all, there are always a lot of junk entries.

I think I've found my team's Doppleganger.

13484 entries.  Looks like everyone advances week one.  Wish I had been as smart as some of you guys who loaded up on Tampa and Miami.  I only went Winston.

To open, obviously the MIA/TB players are a premium.  Their prices include the risk of a week 11 bye when cuts are critical.  To take that drawback away gives them inherent value at their pre-generated costs. I also wanted to make sure that no more than $50 of solid scorers were on bye on any week (I could deal with the cheap guys pushing me over that if it wasn't too bad), and that my stud QB(s), RBs and WRs were not on the same byes.

---

Jameis Winston $17

Sam Bradford $7

Jared Goff $6

QB: The more options at a guaranteed scoring position you have (like QB or TD), the better the chance to raise the floor (the more money spent for better options may also raise the ceiling).  I wanted three or four QBs to give me a better chance at a solid floor every week, but also want the potential for high scores. Originally went with Carr/Stafford/Kizer, then played with the Rivers/Manning/Kizer (Rivers/Manning per the ultimate QBBC article), then after Irma news settled with this set. Winston has a strong week 14-16 schedule, no bye, and costs less than an equivalent early bye week QB.  Bradford and Goff should give a decent first week showing to cover Winstons "bye", and I think they both provide decent floors with upside.  Wanted Kizer (I think he gets lots of garbage time points), but went homer on other less critical positions instead.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DeMarco Murray $26

Doug Martin $15

Derrick Henry $13

James White $11

Kareem Hunt $10

Jacquizz Rodgers $9

Tarik Cohen $3

RB: My approach was to take a stud core set of RBs out of the early byes (5, 6, or 7) then pepper with value. I don't consider single RBs, I consider the unit and the costs since RBs are the most injured position typically. I considered Dallas (zeke/mcfadden/morris) until I saw that it was a possibility that a 4-6 week suspension may happen late in the year. I was ready to accept the risk to be unique with a first half suspension, but not a possibility of a latter half. That left TEN and ATL, both squads that are effective running the ball and whose handcuffs can provide flex value.  I settled on TEN due to lower cost, though Freeman/Coleman may have been the better play for points. For RB2, I had Powell originally, but the TB value/no-bye draw was too strong so Martin/Rodgers joined. I think Hunt is a good value since he was priced while Ware was around and KC does it's RBs right.  I felt like I needed a solid 4th, and White, I think, is the best NE PPR bet, though I had Burkhead is several iterations. I picked Cohen as a flyer instead of Smallwood, really more as a choice between PPR and standard.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Evans $29

DeVante Parker $14

Ted Ginn $9

Tyler Lockett $8

Taylor Gabriel $7

Cooper Kupp $5

Chris Hogan $5

WR: Originally I was taking the WR out of the early bye week that I didn't take my RB core out of. WR1 choice were initially either Baldwin or Thomas depending on Dallas or Atlanta RB crew. After Irma news came out though, I switched to Evans. I had MBryant for my WR2 in all iterations until that news also, at which point I went for Parker. After that I wanted long ball speedsters with decent QBs (Ginn, Lockett, Gabriel), and value (Kupp, Hogan). Some of the WRs that didn't make the cut were on the value end: Zay Jones, Golladay, Anderson, Richardson, Maclin. I think the value/speedster guys can help carry me past week 1 cuts, which are generally easy as long as you're paying attention throughout the preseason and adjusting your roster accordingly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jimmy Graham $18

Zach Ertz $13

Austin Seferian-Jenkins $6

TE: Had Walker instead of Graham originally, but decided to play TE like a glorified WR position. Graham (early bye) and Ertz should see volume and red zone opportunity. ASJ is my flyer pick instead of Anderson on the Jets. Hopefully he doesn't squander the chance.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adam Vinatieri $4

Caleb Sturgis $3

Zane Gonzalez $2

PK: Went homer here. I'm from Indiana, live in Cleveland, and chose Philly to round off my teams. Wanted three to raise average floor. Different bye weeks.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jacksonville Jaguars $5

Philadelphia Eagles $5

TD: I had all the $2 originally to provide a solid floor (defense doesn't often win your week in this and is too erratic), but ended up going with the Defense by committee approach that the FBG site outlined and grabbed Jags/Eagles. The schedule (home games, bad team opposition) argument was what hooked me, not that these defenses are spectacular.

Surprised only 5694 people took the Hunt/Hogan gimme combination.
I took Hunt of course. I had Hogan, but pulled him out. The reason is that I don't think Hogan will come into play that often. Hogan will have some decent games, but he isn't someone that is going to make a big diff. What's his weekly ceiling? I don't think it's that high.

I started with a core of Winston/Evans/Gronk and built around that. I think Evans and Gronk were the two best values on the board for stud players. I opted not to select any player priced over $29. I also went with an all rookie RB group as the pricing and bye weeks matched up very well.

http://subscribers.footballguys.com/contest/2017/100008.php

QB: Winston, Siemian

Basically the same strategy I use every year, except for my QBs. Usually I go for two mid-level QBs, but this time I went for a stud plus a cheap guy.

  • Drew Brees $25
  • Alex Smith $8
  •
  • Isaiah Crowell $22
  • Christian McCaffrey $19

  • Dallas Cowboys $3
  •  New Orleans Saints $2

Won't bore you with the line up but have many of the popular value plays. I didn't have time this year to do an analysis of everyone's cost/production but many obvious value plays emerged.  I went three mid priced QB's, two top RB's and two top WR's.  Tried to avoid having more than one of my #1 players at each position out on a BYE at the same time. Went heavy TB/ Miami players due to the week 1 BYE situation.  Took 4 TE's as they can count as an extra WR with 1.5 PPR. Over the years I have gone from picking many value playerss to more top players and a few key value players. You gotta go strong in this contest and hope for healthy players and have a little luck.  I always pick a couple of flyers - this year Breida and Foreman and even Wright (CHI) was cheap for hopefully a few needed big games. Breida and Foreman looked pretty good in preseason and probably will have some opportunities to put up some points during the season. Generally try to put my BYES  earlier in the season than later in the season since the competition picks up later but this year they are pretty well spread out. evenly. Total of 24 players.Good luck to everyone. Always fun to participate in this unique contest.

Will post thoughts later (other than realizing I spent too little at RB):

I went with less than 30 players for the first time ever. It seems that the top teams always go for more studs and get very lucky.

Also, I only have 1 QB, so week 6 is going to be hairy. I didn't see the value in paying $6 for a Goff, who I would probably only use once.

While it is fun to imagine 4 people being eliminated, historically the querier has included staff entries so it looks like congrats are in order for the week one bye gamblers!

I always like big lineups, but this is the first year 30 was a limitation for me.  There was tons of value in the $7 and under players this year.

QB - Cam Newton - CAR/11 - $15

I like Cam as a bounce back candidate and even if not he should put up some really big weeks. Hopefully in 14-16.

QB - Carson Wentz - PHI/10 - $11
QB - Trevor Siemian - DEN/5 - $5

Wet 3QB's as Can is a bigger injury risk than some. Both of these guys are cheap and should have some big weeks themselves.

RB - Jay Ajayi - MIA/1 - $26

Went Bell in all iterations until yesterday. Week 1 buy bump was big.
RB - Dalvin Cook - MIN/9 - $17

Realistic top 5 upside for $17

RB - Doug Martin - TB/1 - $15

Will be back before buys.
RB - Kareem Hunt - KC/10 - $10

duh
RB - James Conner - PIT/9 - $5
RB - Marlon Mack - IND/11 - $4
RB - Wendell Smallwood - PHI/10 - $3

Lottery tickets, but I expect some production out of all of them.
RB - Kenyan Drake - MIA/1 - $3
RB - Charcandrick West - KC/10 - $3

Handcuffs that were cheap.

WR - Demaryius Thomas - DEN/5 - $24
WR - Kelvin Benjamin - CAR/11 - $17

High upside and I like matching up with my QB's.
WR - Kevin White - CHI/9 - $7
WR - Chris Hogan - NE/9 - $5
WR - Robby Anderson - NYJ/11 - $5
WR - Chris Godwin - TB/1 - $4
WR - Eli Rogers - PIT/9 - $4
WR - Nelson Agholor - PHI/10 - $3
WR - Sammie Coates - CLE/9 - $2

I like the shotgun approach at WR
TE - Jimmy Graham - SEA/6 - $18

He is good and cheap compared to the other top guys
TE - Zach Ertz - PHI/10 - $13

Duh
TE - Vance McDonald - PIT/9 - $4

upside for $4

PK - Mason Crosby - GB/8 - $5
PK - Caleb Sturgis - PHI/10 - $3
PK - Blair Walsh - SEA/6 - $3
TD - Houston Texans - HOU/7 - $8
TD - Carolina Panthers - CAR/11 - $5
TD - Tennessee Titans - TEN/8 - $3

I like 3 K'ers and D's

Now that its locked and I look at my team Can't say I'm incredibly happy but its done now and can only watch how it unfolds. I have gone anywhere from 18-26 and settled at 24. At one point I had DJ/Bell and McCoy....I hope that doesn't come back to bite me later.

Russell Wilson        $20
Jameis Winston        $17

The week 1 bye defo made me change from Wentz, although it cost me having more money at RB. Wilson could be absolutely gold this year given the health of his WR/TE weapons and the still lack of a decent RB.

David Johnson         $39
LeSean McCoy          $30
Rob Kelley            $10
Kareem Hunt           $10
Rex Burkhead           $7

DJ was always in my numerous iterations, however warmed up to McCoy once Williams got cut. Kelley is a shark pick IMO, I don't think he will drop off as some have said simply because the rookie has been slow to pick up the NFL game. Everyone has Hunt and Burkhead is just a roulette RB in NE, I think he will lead in touches by the end of the year however.

Amari Cooper          $25
DeVante Parker        $14
Marvin Jones          $11
Cole Beasley           $8
Cooper Kupp            $5
Kendall Wright         $4
Jeremy Kerley          $3

Cooper should be special this year, Parker for what everyone else is saying with Week 1 Bye and Cutler forcing him the ball,  Everyone was high on the Det rookie but I think Jones will have his best pro season. Beasley is sneaky good PPR floor each week of 3-4 catches and most times he gets looked at often by Dak. Wright as the common denominator at that price and Kerley as a dart that could get a lot of touches in NY.

Zach Ertz             $13
Jason Witten          $10
Antonio Gates          $6
Trey Burton            $2

Think Ertz will get a bunch of touches and Burton should see some 2 TE sets, Witten will get his and Gates for the TD value.

Brandon McManus        $4
Greg Zuerlein          $2
Zane Gonzalez          $2

McManus was in all my teams as I kept changing - his range with the added FG distance scoring may be the difference maker this year.

Green Bay Packers      $4
Cleveland Browns       $2
New Orleans Saints     $2

Just liked the Packers at that price and with the Browns/Saints we should see some aggressive schemes.
