American Horror Story: Cult (Season 7) (1 Viewer)

I've watched every season and am prepared for a great concept and really good first half that falls apart midway through the season and struggles to finish adequately.

This looks interesting in the ads. Have never watched an ep of AHS - is there anything i need to know going in?

They are all pretty much standalone seasons, although on occasion they'll have links to previous seasons. Not enough to make a difference in what you would see as a first time viewer.

All but the first season has had this issue... Grabs you at first, then completely :clyde: the viewer by making changes that never should have happened...

The "Carnival" season had a GREAT premise going.. Then they tried to make you feel sorry for the Killer Clown by giving us a back story, then killed him off and Shoved a wooden clown in his place.

Spot on...although you forgot to mention how at least one character will get more and more fantastically gay as the season progresses

i have an acute fear of clowns.

like an idiot, i will watch this season of AHS.

i went on youtube a few weeks ago and looked at all the ads. This season looks pretty awesome if what we see in the ads plays out during the season. I saw a trailer for the 1st episode, and it may just start kind of slow. At least feels that way cause the ads look awesome and interesting as hell, and not sure we won't jump into them until a few weeks.

But in it definitely, and yeah I am no fan of clowns either. Creepy clowns should be the next push in the genre though since they seem to be running out of zombie things. We need multiple shows about them, hopefully this and the re-release of IT can give us some more

I usually lose interest around episode 5 or so.  Except for season 1, that was great throughout.  Season 2 was good as well.

I like the concept though and hope they keep making them.

Good first episode I would say.

I just hope people don't ruin this thread with Trump/Hilary talk.

However, it already has the feel of another season that will start out really good then it the top of the hill and come barreling down.

Side question.......was Hotel worth watching?  I got through like 4-5 episodes.

EP:1 was good enough to hold my interest, so i'm in for another few.

minor complaint:

Ally's anxiety/neurosis with regard to seeing clowns seems to be brought on by any reference to Trump. MAGA hat on the cashier in the store? clowns boning in the produce aisle. looking at Trumps' twitter feed at dinner? clown self-pleasuring in the kitchen. seems a bit heavy-handed considering all the material the producers have to work with.

also, did i understand correctly: Ally voted for Jill Stein and Ivy's bent out of shape at that?

Yes you are correct on Ally voting for Stein and Ivy going nuts.

well, I think we can handle the thread with the Trump/Hillary stuff cause there is a whole other forum for the political headaches.

I like the show seems somewhat balanced with it's approach so far. it certainly is a daring thing to try and discuss because can easily lose half your audience with how crazy politics are these days. But I like they have the balls to discuss it, and hint at that very thing like when they show the craziness or how things can cause this slip to insanity (e.g. constant checking of twitter, etc.)

I will try to be vague because can't put spoiler tag in now (though it is a harmless spoiler if you saw the episode). but I think what ever her diagnose is, was definitely existent from before like she said during 9/11 and everything. I was thinking of a paranoid schizophrenia kind of diagnosis, but definitely little early to draw too many conclusions. I think this show in particular is good at not being too predictable

I watched the show live and going into a commercial break the first commercial was for "Baskets" the show with Zach Galifianakis as a clown.  The commercial started with Louie Anderson (plays Zachs mom on the show) talking about growing up with coulrophobia (fear of clowns).  I had no idea it was a real commercial, thought it was going to be something Ally was watching on TV.

America is gay.

That's what it is. Not homosexual - tho i could care less - but effiminate, extravagant, exhibitionist, confabulatory, oblivious, wildly insecure. Almost every American i know anymore is that way, even my age group.

My old man's almost a hundred, when he allowed my sister to give him a smart TV (the smart is not on, of course) for his b'day it was the first new media he'd indulged since i gave him an answering machine 30 yrs ago. He's mad old crazy, thinks liberals are to blame for hurricanes, believes anyone who asks him for an email address is age-discriminating, is so stuck in 1950 that he played me Les Brown's Band of Renown's version of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" last week to show his hip cred and his view on race still comes from his Korea service (which i believe is the last time he talked to a black man).

He & I hate each other, always have, but i've sat with him a few times in the last week because he spent all day in the hospital w my mom (she's fine now, mostly cuz the Devil still wants to be the meanest guy in Hell). We couldnt have an actual conversation, of course, so the TV was on. Watching TV with him was very much like watching with a Martian - even though he watches little but Bonanza, Gunsmoke & Fox News, he trolls the channels for cute chicks enough that you'd think he'd be inundated to modern society. But i watch him watching and figured out why he really finds himself to have aged into almost another species.

it's the extraordinary amount of stuff - and we got a good bit of it from those who came up to deathwatch Ma, too - that people think should be everybody's business. All people seem to do anymore is find ways to identify, and mostly so they can tell you how they do so. And every lameass way - body art, Breitbart, fanboy, new toys, politics, trolling shticks, snowflake, news fake, wokism, sarcasm, faux schisms. orgasms, soc, gauche, memes, schemes, unicorn dreams.....OK, i'll stop now.

Not ONE BIT of the forelisted do i need to know about you to know you and you shonuff don't want my real reaction to it anyways. And you even win there because even my most #####rdly brilliance sounds like bigotry to people who can't hear past the distance they want to put between themselves and everybody else. You're all gay, and there's almost everything wrong with that. Mostly that you're all terrified about coming together on anything that's real.

No better evidence than this show. Trump is the ultimate gay icon, because everyone's reaction to him is gay. Killer Clowns are all y'all, the Juggalo within, the automatic excuse (I'm a clown). Civil unions instead of love, bombard children with relativisms instead of teaching them so you never have to have the courage it takes to mold them and, worst of all, feel no need to make sense, use logic, find context, compose a plot. Pull life out your stinkyass and insist eveyone sniff it. Lawnlord out.

How was it?  First season was awesome but everything since has been pretty bad.  Don't think I've watched the last couple seasons.  But I saw a trailer for Cult and it looks different.

It has started just fine.  It  has the feel where it could go off the rails pretty easily.

Severe anxiety can cause hallucinations.  Anxiety from phobias could be the case here.

Stress makes most every mental health issue worse.  9/11 was obviously stressful.  In present day, Trump and what he represents is a huge stressor for her.

Hallucinations brought on by severe anxiety related to phobias made worse by a severe stressor.

Or, the show is going all supernatural dumb #### again.

So is the kid hallucinating too or are the clowns real? The babysitter saw the ice cream truck but not the clowns. If he is just seeing things, I guess we know who his real mother is and I'm sure we'll eventually learn who the father is.

Is it just a coincidence that Kai's sister is the babysitter or is he targeting them?

Good start to the season, I thought.

The sister is in on it. Wasnt that obvious?

It's like the guys that hang out in the Political Subforum wrote the premier.  But, I'm still watching and it's not that bad, so far I'd rank it in the middle of the pack with potential upside:

1- House

2- Asylum

3- Hotel

4- Cult

5- Freak

6- Coven

7- Roanoke

I think Roanoke was so bad it drove off a lot of people, unfortunately.  It's already renewed for two more seasons after this one.

I'd put Cult, through 4 episodes at 2.. Asylm wasn't my "cup of tea" .. Just don't care for "torture porn"..

I'd put Roanoke at 3... It did make a VERY strange turn halfway through but I still ended up watching all episides...then Asylym.. the rest are best forgotten.

Hoping Cult continues on being good... so far it is definitely my favorite after the first season

It's good.  It goes back in time to the day before the election and shows you how some of the characters developed with some surprises thrown in.
Oh cool...that sounds good. Might watch tonight.

I like her phobia of holes. I've seen stuff about that. So wacky. I can see her going full right wing eventually.  Evan Peters has been consistently good throughout the series.

I love torture porn.  :excited:

I can see Cult jumping up a sport or two real easily, it's been really good so far, I just can't put it above a whole season of Gaga yet.

Roanoke was a complete disaster.

I didn't see this week but I'm enjoying it so far
yeah i thought this week was real good. i would love entire episodes of evil clowns, which this wasn't, but this episode did a nice job of setting some things up and explained a bit about the reasoning in the show. explained some things that on first watch didn't make complete sense

Not even sure why I am still watching. I think its horrible but some in here are making me feel like I'm just not getting it.

maybe it depends on what you were expecting. the pre-season commercials were awesome and i know i would have loved a whole season of a killer clown cult. we have a smaller degree and it is a little more of a psychological attack, but there is enough action along with the plot that i'm on board. more action and violence would be great, but i don't know if this show will ever be that

I didnt see any pre season commercials. Sarah Paulsons character is so annoying I am kind of watching and hoping she meets with some terrible demise. Her wife is pretty annoying as well. The only character I find interesting this season is the kid with blue hair.

Paulson's character is obviously gonna become part of the cult.

This show gets worse every season, didn't think it could but it does. Couldn't make it past 2nd episode with that whiny a@@ Paulson.

I'm digging it.

Paulson's character is obviously gonna become part of the cult.
I was assuming the wife is part of it after her involvement with the sister. Paulsen will be freaking out eventually and her wife will pull off her clown mask.

Yes, I think so too. That's why the wife never "sees" the clowns and how they keep getting in the house.

Haven't watched this week's show yet but need to mark this thread. So far I like it but Paulson needs to tone it down a bit.

This past episode of the flashbacks really threw a nice wrinkle into things.

Roanoke?  I guess I just wasn't paying attention cause I either just totally forgot or didn't even realize that one existed.  Doesnt sound like anyone liked it though.

I really liked the 1st half... Then they decided to end the season at the midpoint and start a whole new season.. it was very strange... but the 1st half was good enough that I stuck through the 2nd half.. which was a first time since season 1 so there is that..

Forgot to mention, not sure who else noticed but the fat guy with the beard that cut off his arm was Chaz Bono.
